I know I've covered this a couple of times but here we are again doing some maintenance on the horse arena and I talk a bit more about why and how I go about it.

good it's raining....stop those wildfires. Just wondering thought you said Lena was or had Oldenbergh in her? Never heard the term "harrowing" before I just called it leveling.

Hopefully it helps the fires.. Yes, she is part oldenburg we were told. Harrowing is based on the tool that is used, a harrow 😎

HOW DO YOU CREAT THE CROWN IN THE CENTER TO GET IT DRAINING CORRECTLY?
@StableHorseTraining
@StableHorseTraining 3 жыл бұрын
I PUT IT THAT WAY FROM THE BEGINNING BY USING MACHINERY TO LAY THE FOUNDATION IN THE RIGHT SHAPE. FROM THERE I JUST PUT THE MATERIAL FOR THE BASE AND SAND ON TOP OF THAT WITHOUT FLATTENING THE GRADE I HAD CREATED.

@@StableHorseTraining Well, i am so new at this that never occured to me when i added screenings i made the mistake of dumping it around the outside to take care of the mud, which worked but since my arena was originally grass it drained perfect till like a dummy I raised the outter edges- live and learn- so I added sandy dirt to the center and totally failed in spreading- now i have a pond and high spots on the inner middle- how do I level it now to make it fill in. I guess that is my question- box blade? I tried the scraper blade ( first time ever using one-fail) and drag ( failed)

Hey great job as always and very timely for me as I have been looking at options for making an arena. What type of sand did you use and how deep is it? Also what base did you use? And what are the dimensions of the arena. It's so nice of you to put out all aspects of horsemanship, you are a one stop shop on horse care. You are very clear and share your experiences as they come up and you document them as they happen and you are timely with your responses to questions so that your channel is truly interactive. Thanks so much for all of your help and time and please continue the great work that you are doing. Have a great day.

Thank you very much Richard! I really appreciate you taking the time to write me 😊. The arena sand is washed sand and is about 2 inches deep on average. My arena is about 80 * 180 based on constraints of the trees and border. I'll do a video soon about it I think

Would an indoor arena be less work?
@StableHorseTraining
@StableHorseTraining 6 жыл бұрын
For the footing, yes. You wouldn't have to contend with weather or trees and other foliage making its way in. The downside is you have to maintain the structure. That can be a big deal if the bottom of the structure wasn't done properly and it starts to rot. Drainage is everything.
