This fascinating documentary follows 35-year-old Dutch identical twins Lisbeth and Angelique as they wrestle with their love / hate relationship and extreme dependence on each other. Both sisters have anorexia and their struggles with food are agonising to watch. They visit anorexia and twin specialist Janet Treasure in London and at the end of the programme Angelique (the twin most badly affected by anorexia) embarks on a hospital programme. For anyone intersted in the darker side of identical twins this programme will make compelling viewing.

I'm a Quad, 2 sets of twins who all looked very alike. My identical twin died shortly before birth. So I am one, and my sisters are twins. They are both very alike, in a bad way. Angry, judgemental, mean spirited , narcissistic like my mum. I am an ex midwife, and a Psychotherapist. They don't understand why I want to "listen to people moan every day" in my work. I did volunteer work with the homeless. They? They think the homeless should be in a special camp, somewhere,where they won't ruin the Streets. We were dressed identically as children. They loved it. I loathed it, and being stopped in the Street , by strangers , who wanted to compare and photograph us!! Years of bullying and toxicity took its toll, leading to me developing an Eating disorder. 14 years ago, I had finally reached the end of allowing misery a foothold in my life. My family and I emigrated 14 years ago. I've never seen them, or talked to them, since, Nor do I plan to. I'm finally free, healthy and happy!! These twins , all dressed the same , are abnormal to me. Nobody is meant to walk through life as a clone. That said, these Twins are very mentally and emotionally unstable. They are the last thing each needs in their lives! I wish them freedom and happiness

i am a twin, and this is what was recommended to our parents, to put us in seperate classes. Because twins really dont need anyone else than each other. So if they are placed together in the same class, they will not socialize with other kids. It is so important to let them have their own space, and develop friendships with different people, and let them have their own identities. Because twins are alike physically, but they are different individuals that should be allowed to be who they want to be, seperately. Those twins are pathetic, and act like toddlers. The problems is not the fact that they are twins, it goes deeper than that. They need help, and i hope they got the help that they need. Because they will never be able to be happy, seperately.

I’m an identical twin too, and I know for many this documentary and these sister’s behaviors are hard to understand, but I can, in a way see myself in them in some sense. My parents raised my sister and I very dependent of each other. We dressed the same, went to the same school, had the same friends, shared the same room, etc. We first started taking separate classes during our second year of college. It was so hard!We would cried or feel insecure when we were apart, even when we were already adults. I didn’t know how to make even the simplest decisions on my own. Making friends was just very hard. Now we’re better, but it’s taken a lot of work and therapy. Twins are individuals, so if you’re reading this and have twins, treat them as individuals from the beginning. We allowed our family to call us twins, instead of our names, and we have never called each other by our names. I just call her sister. Don’t let that happen to your kids. I love my sister to pieces, but I wish I could have discover myself and my own identity from earlier in life.
@zammmerjammer
@zammmerjammer 8 ай бұрын
I hope you and your sister weren't given rhyming names. I find that so obnoxious. I work with medical records and I remember coming across a record for a brand newborn set of twins. The parents had given them nearly identical names -- think something like Ayan and Eyan -- so only different by one letter and pretty much pronounced the same unless you REALLY emphasized that vowel. These babies were only a day or two old and I had to write to the administrator because their medical records were ALREADY being jumbled together. I don't know what the parents were thinking, but these poor kids will be getting confused for each other, and getting each others mail and bills, for the REST OF THEIR LIVES.

Our primary school’s policy was to separate twins at the beginning of Year 2 to help develop resilience and independence. I think we were 6 at the time, and I remember sobbing hysterically in front of the whole school assembly when they split us up whilst being allocated into our new classes. But I got over it pretty quickly and we thrived in classes away from each other. I’m grateful for that experience now.

Anyone wonder if Lisbeth's internet boyfriend was really "sick" and died or if they just wanted out of the "relationship"? It just seems weird to me that someone that I am assuming claimed they were family or a friend was like "oh they are in a coma", "oh by the way they died and there is no body or grave for you to visit as proof". This person would have had to know the importance of their connection to reach out to her in the first place, so I can't imagine why someone wouldn't tell someone's partner when to come for the memorial.

This is a heartbreaking example of toxic codependency. It’s like drug addicted partners.. you feel safety and comfort with only your partner, because you’re both deeply entrenched in the same disease that isolates you from the rest of the world. You end up sharing an identity that is flawed. I’m a recovering anorexic and can’t imagine the added torture of having a bond so close with someone that it becomes a rivalry.. the anxieties and obsessiveness is shared and must be equal between you otherwise anxiety is increased and fuels the ED. They aren’t happy. They’re trapped. I hope they find the strength to seek and stick to recovery.. first step for them is to learn that it’s okay and healthy to want to do something for THEMSELVES - and not feel obligated to do anything based on the other person. Just as they fuel each other’s illness, they can equally and powerfully fuel each other’s recovery by taking care of themselves as individuals. You can see how warped the illness has made them by how they judge other twins for dressing the same.. yet they go to further and darker extremes by ensuring they consume the same, exercise the same, treat their bodies the same.. in a destructive way. The other twins aren’t ruled by their outfits - yet these twins are ruled by their own obsession. Anorexia is a mind altering death trap.

I have a twin (my only sibling) and I can’t imagine life without her. We say the same things at the same time, read each others minds and so much unconditional love for one another. She’s literally my other half, best friend, and soul mate. It’s sad how they view other twins.

I was a teacher at a kindergarten in China, and I had a set of twins in my class that parents didn't want to separate, and I watched them repeating almost the same thing. They were not identical, and the girl was def "dominant". It was a daily struggle with food, as the boy only ate what the girl ate. and even if I put them far away, they would still look over each other and watch if they were still eating, and would stop if the other one had stopped. Hope they can grow out of this. It's very unsettling to watch this competition.

my twin sister and I also were required to be in separate classes after our first year of school, and I'm so glad for that. Even in separate classes people sometimes treated us like the same person, but we were able to have time apart from one another to form relationships and identities separately. we didn't like being separated initially, but it was the best thing for us in the long run.

My identical twin sister and I are 52 years old. We can’t imagine life without each other even though we both have our own separate family that we love dearly, we have never had an argument and our Mom always tells us that even in our first years of our life , we never had a fight . This is the first time in my life that I see twins that don’t love their special relationship!!I understand these twins have a psychological disorder, but giving themselves the right to be nasty to others at the twins convention, gives me the impression that they are using their special “twins” case to get the attention/reaction from others ! I might be wrong and I hope I am because it makes me really sad to see this dysfunctional relationship when it is supposed to be the best bond in the world .

I raised identical twin boys. They were part of my brood of 7. I didn't dress them alike beyond infancy and even then it was only because I received so many twin outfits from friends and family. I could tell them a part, but their siblings couldn't until they were about 4 or 5. I encouraged their individuality and they did have different personalities even though they liked much of the same things. I even asked if they wanted separate birthdays...lol. As a family, we, of course acknowledged their twiness, but it didn't define them. They are in their 30s now. One recently moved to Texas for work (the rest of us are in Wisconsin), but they still stay in touch daily.

The twin sisters Liesbeth and Angelique Raeven, who together form the artist duo L.A. Raeven, have got themselves a robot clone. So a third sister, actually. Her name is Annelies, and you could meet her at the exhibition Robot Love during Dutch Design Week (DDW). Play video Where most robots are just serving people, Annelies is someone who has to be served herself: she sits sadly in a corner, and when you try to comfort her, she will look back with a face full of tears. We followed the sisters in their creative process, and they talked about the ideas behind their project. Unlike most exhibitions during DDW, Robot Love is still on show and can be visited at the new Campina Area in Eindhoven until the 2nd of December.
