I paid $200 at a hair salon, and paid extra for olaplex, to go blonde. I knew I was going to need 2-4 sessions, and she told me I did, but she literally bleached my hair white with 40 and "put the olaplex" in the bleach, but she didn't mix it in front of me. The way my hair fried and fell off, I'm pretty sure she didn't use it. My hair started to smoke and it fell off. I don't trust salons now 😭 going to blonde is very expensive, a lot of "pros" don't know what they're doing apparently lol. Be careful with salons.

no it was in the middle of the winter, they told me olaplex makes your hair smoke and it's normal but it burnt off my hair so I'm pretty sure it wasn't normal 😂
@meganm39127 жыл бұрын
Hair during the bleaching process will smoke if you have metallic dyes in your hair, which most boxed colors have. Sometimes it's not always a hair stylists fault when it comes to the outcome of your hair. It's really important for you to tell your stylist what you've done to your hair or have had done and it's also important for them to ask you. If a stylist doesn't ask you your history or give you a strand test before bleaching then it should be a no go in my professional opinion.
@HayleyLynn7 жыл бұрын
she knew all about my hair history, yet she used 40 volume which was way too strong for my hair. i understand olaplex knocks off 10 vol, but even 30 is high for my very thin hair. also my hair lifts easily and i told her that but she insisted that bc it was so dark that she would use a 40. i mean it's whatever bc the damage is done but i would never recommend anyone to her.

I understand that multiple sessions with a professional are important but I still hate it and I don't trust professionals in my country. I got tired of wasting time and money on hairdressers who didn't even actually toned my hair when I requested it very explicitly. After educating myself from the internet for a while I now bleach and tone it myself at home and my hair is actually very healthy even though I went from a 2 to 9/10ish and I'm Latina. If you're going to a professional make sure they actually know what they are doing, harass them with questions and pictures.

Rhaenys as a hairstylist myself that comment has really offended me. we train so hard to be able to have the knowledge that we do. Obviously you were going to someone who has done no training at all and have no clue what they are doing
@lilatolouian7 жыл бұрын
Bringing a few pictures of what you want is always a good idea, but if you are going to an actual hairstylist/professional, it's probably not the brightest idea to try and act like you know more than they do, just because you've watched a lot of youtube videos or read stuff online. That's like going to the emergency room, but telling the doctors what they NEED to be doing because you read it on WebMD. Just saying. I'm glad you are successful at doing it yourself. I would NEVER be able to, but luckily my sis is a stylist and not only does she listen to what I want, she also lets me know (especially regarding toners and high lift colors) the reasons why a certain thing will not work well with my hair. Like a balayage, I kept seeing on IG and youtube, she had to explain to me the reasons why that wouldn't be the right technique for my super dark hair, instead she HAS to do full foiled highlights. Also, hair stylists/colorists are not like mechanics. They actually want what is BEST for your hair, they want your hair healthy and beautiful because it is their art, it is their science, and the better your hair looks, the better they feel. They are not crooks that can't be trusted, they aren't mechanics at Jiffy Lube just trying to make money. They are trying to create beauty. At least, the true professionals are. But if what you are doing is working for you, and you love how it looks, then that's awesome!
@chc7177 жыл бұрын
Lauriepatterson there was nothing offensive about her comment. She clearly spoke of personal experiences. I have great respect for hairdressers, what you do is so hard; but there are too many that just aren't good enough at their job. Should she keep throwing away money and sacrificing her hair so you don't get offended ?

I remember this being one of the many blonde videos I watched before taking the plunge about a week ago at a salon. Tbh this video felt rather intimidating and misinformed because I felt this all heavily revolved around becoming a really light blonde/platinum when you have poor hair condition. I went in with box dyed level 5 hair (my natural hair is a level 5-4) and she got me to a level 8-9 in a single session; I wanted to be a medium to lightish blonde so she got me there with my hair feeling great 😊 I'll be going in for my finishing appointment soon. So just a heads up, if your aim isn't platinum and you have strong hair, it won't take an entire year 🙄
@juliettyler76707 жыл бұрын
It took me years of stubborness and a few fried heads of hair to finallyaccept this fact. I am naturally dark DARK brunette, almost black with very porous hair, wavy hair and I maintain my blonde myself. I cut a few corners and as a result, have a few brassy spots, some inconsistances, and a purple strand from a toning mishap experiement a month ago (a hazard of DIY what can ya do?) but for the most part, I moved slowly. I always wanted that bright ash blonde right then and there and drove a handful of poor stylists crazy with my unrealistic expectations, but in the end, I suggest having fun with each transition- enjoying it because once you're blonde for a couple years, you'll miss those darkers tones a bit and wish you would have played around with the darker colors longer If you plan on being blonde anyways, what's the rush? THanks for this video! I worry that only frying your hair will get the message thru to the extra stubborn blonde or die types, but let's hope people are smarter than me.

New sub. I love how your advice is so real. Some people are sensitive and I don’t recommend going blonde in one day if you are sensitive. It burns but if you got a good stylist they will make sure your scalp survives. I’ve gone to blonde from natural black in one day twice with some years in between. It took about 6 hours because I got highlights too. My hair stylist is the bomb. She warned me about the process and damage. My hair has never fell out, minimal shedding. One important thing most people don’t understand is that being blonde is high maintenance. It will continue to falll out if you don’t condition your hair. I used its a 10 haircare line for my hair. Never had an issue. I’m so random though because I get bored easily. I’m probably about to sit the 6 hours or less (because my hair is super short now) to go back to blonde.

I am transitioning to blonde now from a level 2. Note to self guys, when you dye your hair with box dye repeatedly only touch up the roots. I finally found the perfect salon in Vancouver, Bc and we have begun the process. She lifted the box dye that I have had 7 years, and it lifted so well that the color expert gave the go ahead for my first bleach out. I am sitting at a red warm brown color and to be honest I hate I but I know this is the safest way to transition. Also because my hair is so healthy they gave the go ahead for my appointment in a month! Its a process, but my hair is my crown, and ide rather it not fall out.

I had red and brown hair dye in my hair for SO MANY years and as a natural dark blonde I wanted to go back too that. It took me so long get that orange tone out if my hair. This last bleach and tone finally got me to the color I have been dreaming of. So happy with t

Thanks for sayin that it is possible. Two years ago I went to 3 different hair salons tryin to see who would turn my moms hair blonde, as close as possible to platinum. She wanted to do a color that would help her transition easier to her natural salt and pepper color. She did have medium brown hair color. All 3 said no. That she just has to let her hair grow. One of them was even rude to her. I ended up searching in the wonderful youtube world and found many different tutorials on how to do it, including on of yours that talks about the levels of hair color. I'm clearly not a professional, but I listened and researched. It took me 3 sessions to get her hair to a similar blond as you have in this video, without damage to her hair! Now she is sporting her natural salt and pepper hair and she is happy. While she was blond she had many compliments and her hair looks very healthy. I don't recommend people to just go ahead and do it, since every hair is different. But it is possible and a professional shouldn't just say no. A great stylist would explain what you mention in this video. It takes time and patience.

You were confused about Latino/latina, but I was confused cuz I totally thought you were Mexican or Spaniard for some reason. You're so pretty!

Yup anyone CAN be blonde & I (fellow Hairstylist w/nat. level 5 pita to lift, thick coarse AF auburn hair) personally prefer it myself but always recommend ppl try on different shades of blonde wigs 1st (like real 1's not Halloween store) to make sure they like how it looks & best shade for them b4 starting the process cuz it can be a big expensive commitment. 100% true tho lighter hair can make you look younger + face framing highlights can make your face look fuller while dark hair around face slims😉

Candice thank you for taking the time to reply. I pretty much got the gist of what you meant by quote, "having no hair left." But I had to be sure haha! It surely makes sense using )too much bleach on a client with darker hair in a short time leaving hair damaged and brittle.. You weren't confusing, I just wanted clarification!! love your videos, they're very informative and thorough. You were the first girl on KZbin who taught me how to cut my own hair! you'll always be my go-to hair girl in terms of the Tube! Xx

Just discovered your channel! You're awesome! I spent years bleaching my hair and it was awful, I've now embraced my natural colour but I adore blonde (done the right way!) new subscriber ❤️

I've gone from brown to almost white blonde in an hour in the salon I go to. Every time I bleach my hair, I never have breakage, hair loss, or burns. My hair is really thin and takes bleach well though, so I might be an exception. I really want to go strawberry blonde this time :)

It depends on your skin tone. I was born a dirty blonde, that's why it looks good on me because it's pretty if you have fair skin. I don't look good with dark hair because I wasn't born with dark hair or red hair, I tried both colors on me at one point and they both looked like crap, a lot of people told me blonde looked better on me because of the skin tone. Never dye your hair any color unless you know it's going to look good on you, that's why it's best to talk to a specialist. And never pick the wrong hair stylist either, I let this black woman work on my hair and she chopped it up. So now I have to find a new hair stylist when I go get my hair trimmed.

I personally find that eggs, olive oil, and rosemary essential oil all mixed together as a hair mask keep my hair super healthy. Just make sure you rinse out with COLD water before you shower or you'll end up with cooked egg all over your head lol

I got my hair bleach blonde in one day without damaging my hair. It actually damaged my hair more when they repeatedly put thin highlights in my hair. The overlapping is very damaging over time. Use a highlift blonde with olaplex and tone. Make sure not to do thin highlights.

I admit to being that person with 2N hair going in and wanting blonde🙌🏻 That was 3 years ago... Now I'm a hair student and I 100% understand the struggle of wanting blonde. It's a process. I got to a caramel brown ish color before having a fashion color phase and now I'm back to the caramel stage wanting a nice bright golden blonde. Only once though😉 I'm crazy so I probably won't be a "natural" color for many many years to come.

As soon as bleach touch’s my hair it is ruined, whether it’s in a darker hair dye or to bleach lighter. It loses its shine, turns dry brittle & frizzy. Not to mention orange. Yes they tone it, but after 1 wash it’s orange again.

I'm at a level 6/7 at my roots (colored) and a level 7/8 mids-ends... It's been bleached and colored a hand fun of times in the last 5 years but is healthy, soft hair..have an appointment Friday to go BLONDE for the first time since I was 5!! My eyebrows are full ash ash blonde that make them look black, and my natural hair is a very blonde brown level 7/8.and I have a similar complexion to yours with green eye/blue eye. Going ash/pearl blonde. Gosh I'm excited to give myself a new look!

Took me 6 months to achieve the golden brown I have. I am Asian. Black hair isn’t exactly easy to lift. I enjoyed the process and still looked amazing. I miss some of my old hair looking at some old photos.

I'm a natural red head and I've been blonde before but anytime I go to a stylist who wasn't the one I originally went too, the stylist won't do it. They refuse because of my natural hair color.

I don’t allow any hairstylist to touch my hair without Olaplex and if I walk into the salon and her hair is short I immediately walk out. One thing I learned about hairstylists is they love their IG videos, even if you lose half the hair on the first wash.
