there is some truth to this but i think it's not quite correct. While Samsung also sells premium phones, the most deciding factor for customers isn't Apple vs. Samsung but iOS vs. Android. The decision for a device only comes after that ecosystem decision. Just like Apple doesn't compete with the likes of Dell or Lenovo but with Microsoft.

Google has by far the best search engine. It's not a matter of monopoly, it's just that no one else comes near the quality of their search results. And it's not that a small company can come along and surpass them in the near future. A search engine at this level needs infrastructure, a lot of data and processing power. Only a few companies in the world have those capabilities, and they're all huge, they all raise monopoly concerns already. You could make them sell youtube or gmail, but that wouldn't solve this particular problem.

I think Google's product is strong and has a robust sense of confidence and familiarity from the general public. But I think it would be rash to assume this an unshakeable faith. Complacency is a disease, and if Google let up the pressure on their market cornering strategy it is only a matter of time before competitors flock to eat away at the pie. Honestly, what Google has more than anything, more than money, is power. The phrase "Gatekeepers to the Internet" is so salient because it shows what exactly makes Google special. It's hard to hold onto all that power forever.

That said though, this lawsuit would hurt Google more than Apple. Google loses access being default search engine on a billion devices and eventually Apple MIGHT build their own search engine. Then it is 💀 for Google. If this happens Apple will become an absolute behemoth. Apple has already shown that they are interested in getting into the ad business, which right now is dominated by Google and Meta(Facebook). Apple having their own search engine as default on over 1 billion Apple devices could help them make further inroads into the ad business, which would hurt Google and Meta.

I may not play as defined as companies denying new companies to be created and preventing competition. technically Google isn't a monopoly because there is competition It's just like the zipper companies, one zipper company owns 90% of zippers that are made but that doesn't mean that it's a monopoly because I'm monopoly prevents competition. Just because your competition is a small part doesn't mean that you are trying to destroy it. Automakers making it so that Tesla can't sell their vehicles in that state is a monopoly.
