For me the most important reason to join the Fuji-System was age and especially weight. At the age of 60 I was travelling through Sicily with my Nikon D700 and 10 kg of expensive glass (Holy Trinity) in my backpack. Now, at the age of 73 I enjoy my X-T5 and the small Fuji zoom lenses, that brought back the fun of photography. I don't care about sensor size, I just appreciate the quality of the 40 MP sensor and the pictures I am getting out of my camera.

Great video Booray. One important point you missed is that the Fuji APS-C X-TRANS sensor works in a different way to all other sensors (not just APS-C) which allows it to capture light better, manage colour better and resolve better. But I love Fuji because of the ergonomics. For the longest time I longed for a camera that handled like those of the 70s and 80s that I grew up on. And then Fuji did just that. Genius.

Appreciate it the video... I like your engaging but no fluff approach. I'm hoping you'll address these 2 points: (1) Northrups say when you apply the crop factor to APS-C you have to factor the max f as well ie, 2.8 would be 4.2. You're in FL, is it so bright there it's just not a concernn? (2) I heard that Fuji doesn't "play nice" with Lightroom (although I don't know exactl what they meant). Since you're using Chrome Classic does it mean you go straight to JPG and skip Lr altogether?
@BoorayPerry Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment! The crop factor does not affect your exposure. I have a video about this on my channel that I can't link to because I'm on my phone at the moment. 🙂 The quickest way to prove this is to point out that external light meters do not ask you what size sensor you are using. They tell you the correct exposure and that value will work on any camera. I'm not sure that Lightroom has any problems with Fuji now although they did in the past. I use Capture One for several reasons. I shoot in Raw and classic Chrome is applied in capture One. Or, I can change to one of the other styles if I like.

Awesome lecture Booray, chapeau! Informative, accurate, honest, and amusing - recited in a perfect, well articulated English, easy to understand also for non-English speaking people like me. I have an odyssey behind me with folling stations, since the digital era began: Nikon full frame DSLR, Sony full frame DSLM, Canon APS-C DSLR, Panasonic mFT, Olympus mFT, and for three years now Nikon Z- full frame - where I most probably will stay. The Z6/Z7 II + Z 24-120mm F4 S is an outstanding bred-and-butter combo which no other system can offer. One month ago I also tested the Fuji X-H2s: Good camera, but the additional value for me is not big enough to entice me away from Nikon full frame. This could change when I become older and weaker and will need a lighter equipment. If the autofocus would be improved - especially for wildlife - I could be tempted right now. Kind regards from Switzerland.

Thank you for the video . I shoot XT4 A couple of things . F2.8 . Stand a full frame F2.8 side by side with a crop sensor F2.8 for the same subject For example Nikon 24-70 , Fuji 16-55 The depth of field is not the same. The 2.8 crop sensor lens is more like F4 on the full frame for depth of field Classic Chrome always . Does that mean you only shoot jpeg . In camera film simulation does not apply to raw although it can be applied in post A thing that is bad about in camera Fuji film simulation is that it is applied to what you see in EVF and rear screen . If you shoot in raw like I do then the EVF and rear screen can be misleading . I have Natural Live set to ON so as to minimise the distraction .

Another negative is ergonomics/form factor. The X-T5's body is small, and they don't make an accessory grip for it. The X-E4 doesn't have a built-in grip, so you have to buy a third-party grip. The X70 is a great compact camera, but to make an X80 with an X-Trans III or 4 sensor would require a larger battery and hence change the form factor - it will no longer be as compact.
@1WillyK Жыл бұрын
I bought an X-T3 about a year and a half ago for a couple of reasons. First, I wanted something smaller and lighter for hiking and backpacking. Second, I really like the old school look. Also, having the control knobs made it easy as I had shot with SLR's a lot in the past. For downsides there are two things. Sure, I wanted smaller but I find that with my big hands it's a little tight and I sometimes press buttons I had not intended to. However, it's a compromise I'm willing to live with to have the convenience of a smaller camera. My biggest gripe though is cropping images in camera. You can only use it if you're shooting in JPEG or JPEG+RAW. I rarely shoot JPEG and I don't like JPEG+RAW as it uses up memory cards much faster. Plus, then I have a bunch of images that are basically useless to me. Not a deal breaker but not great either. One more minor thing. There's no five second timer. Two or ten is all you get. The funny thing is the X-T5 has a five second timer but only if you're shooting video. Weird. Overall though, I really like my Fuji and having looked at other brands I don't think I would switch. Besides, it's too expensive to do so, so I guess I'm stuck with it.

Never talked about is the hdr400 mode along with the highlight and shadow tone curves. You know how cameras tout “15 stops of DR” but still blow out highlights? Whats the point of 15 stops of DR if your skies are blown out in day photos? The DR400 mode remaps that spread by underexposing the sensor while, in camera, boosting the shadows and mids. This is as opposed to you shooting underexposed, having useless and dark jpgs, and having to rely on LR to boost your shadows and mids! Best part? This works in RAW too! You couple that with a highlight tone curve, you end up with these very filmic rolloff in the highlights with detail. No clamped, featureless highlights. It gives you about 3-5 stops to rolloff a hot specular highlight… in-camera!

Agree Fuji is the only company these days which is devoted on making pro-grade APSC system (both camera and lenses). Other companies like Sony/Canon/Nikon are focused on FF. On the other side, if you want to join the big boys club (medium format), most likely Fuji will be your 1st choice. Hasselblad/Phase One is more pricey. Once a Fuji product specialist told me that they are not interested on making the FF market saturated, hence the APSC lineup. And making medium format system more affordable.

I was pretty late to the party and I only started with Fuji film last November with a Fuji XS 10. I then sold that camera to my son because he wanted to get into photography and I upgraded to the Fuji XT5 and I can honestly say this camera is the best camera I've ever owned. And yes I own a NikonD850. And I'm keeping my Nikon D850 as it still has a place but the Fuji film XT5 is just an incredible camera and I know it copped a little bit of a bargain because it's not perfect with autofocus, but I actually like the fact that it's not perfect. Perfectionism isn't a trait. I chase in photography to be quite honest and I still like the fact that you have to work for your shots. I'm absolutely stoked with my XT5, and it's very more than likely I will buy a second body because when I'm out on landscapes I don't like changing lenses. I actually think there are better camera stand the Fuji range. I think sony probably have the best sensor of any of the manufacturers and I think Nikon and Canon are also brilliant cameras but unless you've used to Fuji, you were simply not understand it. You have to use one for awhile to fully get it and when you do, there is no going back. I actually think the aperture ring on the lenses is not just a funky old school thing. It's so useful. You look down at the lens often and it's right there so you don't need to look at a little number somewhere inside the viewfinder or a tiny little LCD on the top of the camerayou can actually see it in big bold letters. I'm not sure I'd disagree with anything you've said but I might pedantically split hairs. If you put a 24mm lens on an APSC body you are not turning it into a 35mm lens. The picture angle will be the equivalent of a 35mm lens on a FF camera, that much is true. But in terms of focal magnification it will always be a 24mm lens. Focal magnification is maybe the only reason, all else being equal, I might chose FF over APSC. I am lucky enough to be able to use both though so it's no great shakes.

IMHO, Fuji cameras & lenses offer a tremendous value for their price point in the photographic industry. Although autofocus is not up to Nikon, Canon, or Sony standards, it is getting closer with each generation of camera releases. Is it good enough? That is a question that each photographer must answer for themselves. Their lens options are extensive, save for super telephotos. ( The 200mm f/2 is exceptional in build quality & images that it produces.) Film simulations, build quality of their camera bodies, is very good. I sold all my Canon gear, after 40 years of using their products. Fuji has been more than “good enough” for my needs.😊

The Fuji is never the best on a data sheet, but a Fuji shooter choose with heart, not brain. It is the intangible feel, I would even go as far as to say, Fuji just does it with style. Full disclosure, I take pictures for fun, and when traveling. Those Canons specs are beast but I don't want taking picture to be a job, it needs to feel fun. Ask a Leica shooter and they will tell you the same, we just follow our heart a little less and our brain a bit more, and save ourselves 4 times the price compare to those "wankers".

For stills, sure Fuji is fine. But if you shoot video, best to look elsewhere.
