My grandfather had a two bay shop where he worked on peoples cars and tractors in East Texas. As a kid, I use to go visit him and grandma every Summer and tag along behind him soaking up the knowledge. In the lower twenty acres he had approximately 150 old cars and trucks and just about anything else you could think of. He called it the " Bone Yard " . He had two 40 foot containers shelved out just full of different parts that only he knew was there. Sadly he got sick from Cancer and had to retire and sell his shop to pay the medical bills. He died in 1999 and I still have the majority of his hand tools. They're like Treasure to me. The Fab Rat's I know he would have loved the show just as much as I do. Thanks to all of you for keeping it Real.

The reason New England hot dog buns have no crust sides is so you can butter them and then put them on the griddle to toast. Done right, the outside of the bun is toasty and the inside is soft and warm. Everyone has their way of cooking a dog but one of the New England ways is to boil water, remove from heat, add hot dogs (for like 10 minutes). Then you put them in a bun, wrap the bun in tin foil (aluminum wrap) for about 15 minutes. Bun and dog fuse into a unique taste. Ben got it right about putting your beans on the brown bread.

Being raised an only child in the 60's, I still long to have a brother like Ben. It sucks to see other people taking each other for granted when there are those on the outside looking in that would give half of the rest of their lives just to get to experience what you have for a little while...

Old machinist advice; if you have to use a file on a lathe you want to be using it on the side of the part spinning away from you. If the file grabs it'll pull it out of your hands and safely into the machine. If you have the file on top where the part is spinning towards you it can send that file right through your guts. Open bed engine lathes are the most dangerous tool in most of the machine shops I've been in.

Carbonated Gentian Root Nerve Tonic claimed to help resolve brain issues and insomnia. Granma might end up ordering a few cases for the boys for the first benefit... In the welding shop you do well to have a large bottle of Gentian Violet Aqueous Solution for burns. You put it on fast enough and you'll get instant relief and may not even get the slightest blister or any scars. You know its working from the Violet Stain with a Green Tinge to it that it will leave behind. It can rub off so you can end up with and interesting pattern on your face from it if you rub your eyes, etc. It can take weeks afterwards for it to wash off. Tip: Don't get the Alcohol Solution Gentian Violet for burns or you might be singing soprano when you apply it. ;> Grew up on Moxie, Kist along with a bunch of regional New England brands of Tonic Water. Now I want some Red Dogs, Kraut, Beans and Brown Bread along with a Moxie to wash it all down. Best!

It's a recipe for having the key flung with great force across the workshop, or through someone or something in the workshop. About the "U-joints being the same angle - but opposite". I hadn't heard the description of "fast-n-slow" etc. I heard that it was going to tear itself apart eventually, but I didn't know how fast it would happen. You said that it caused a vibration effect. I'm glad you took the exercise to the point of correcting the 5 vs 4 degree angle difference. That was a teaching moment just as the on-screen graphics indicated, and it was one of those happening moments that Landon was accidently there for, and he will remember it forever! Those are precise moments in a video like this - it turned into educational moment for all those viewers that have never heard of that fact. But I have a lingering thought that I wonder about. Why does it cause it to have that effect on the driveline? Some might say, it does it so accept it, and shut up! Yes sir, and so I shall. Good night.
