Great analysis on string breakage, except for the recommendation on when to restring. That theory was true in the Synthetic gut era. In the Polyester era, these strings lose tension and elasticity so fast, that even if you don't strike a single ball, the string becomes dead through tension after a week or so. So don't think just because you freshly strung poly last week and it has sat in your bag for a week, it will play fresh. It Wont' !!

Right! Good players base their replacement on time, not usage. Strings are losing tension with or without play. Any poly string older than 3 weeks is shot.

Using 16L full poly here. I break my strings only during serve, usually at the identical place. It’s “top of the basket” 3rd or 4th string on the main from the center line. I cut them out & restring every 3-5 week. Or else I would injury my elbow with the volley or trying too muscle to ball too much.

It's not only by hitting inside out that you break the crosses. If you use a hybrid with a poly on the mains, the poly will cut through the softer string on the crosses, specially if it's a shaped poly.

I always break my crosses but then that's where I have the softer string, Wilson Sensation vs Luxilon BB rough in mains. Probably break a set a week on average with 6-8 hours play. I would change string but I like the feel and the Wilson Sensation adds a bit of softness to preserve my arm vs a full bed of poly.

I dont think that analysis of crosses breaking holds up on hybrids. Ive recently switched to hybrid stringing to preserve my arm more (and overall Ive been liking it best) and inmediately I went from that “perfect” break to breaking my crosses. As far as I can tell the poly on the mains is essentially sanding through the softer multis on the cross. But maybe I just have the wrong set up. Currently swinging HyperG mains and Velocity crosses

Please note that you have a misinformation here. I can clearly see that the cross breakage you showed in the video is a fraying break and not a notch break. A fraying break of crosses are because of mains movement. This mostly happens in multi filament crosses since it starts to develop more surface friction after the coating goes away. If the cross break is because of notches I could have agreed with you.

How does one get multifiber string on the mains to last longer when hitting top spin? The breakage is in the sweet spot due to top spin. What is a good string to use on a cross when you want your multifiber main to last longer at 59lbs In a 95 as inch racquet?

how serious are notches? I recently bought a blade team v7 pre strung with sensation 17/1.25, I've used it for maybe 5 hours and there's probably 15 notches (only rly on the wilson stencil but unsure if its just bc thats the sweetspot). do strings really wear out that quick? I'm used to using a racket for a year and logging about a 100 hours on it I just got into strings used to use pre string burn fsts, vcore sv teams etc

This is surprising to me as I do hit with decent top spin ..

yes, some synthetics are softer and without a hard shell, some dig into the mains and lose, some dig the mains and break the mains, some will mush and get frayed by the mains. Its all about its construction. what he talked about a type of swing is incorrect that causes crosses to break.

I prefer a hybrid with nat gut on the mains and poly on the crosses. I string the gut 4 lbs tighter than the poly, but the gut still always breaks first. I was going with the Champions Choice at 48 and 52 with my RF and consistently got between 10 to 15 hours on my gut. After a ton of demos, I recently switched to the Blade. I have my customization and tension (49 & 53) just about perfect, but I'm still experimenting with strings. I'm trying to save some money, but haven't found a Poly I like and the Klip is breaking consistently under 10 hours. Any suggestions on a hybrid setup? I'm currently considering a full bed of Confidential at 48 just to see how it feels. No sure my arm will appreciate that experiment. I play 3 to 5 times per week so I'm stringing twice as much as I was with my RFs. Would love some feedback. I'm super happy with my Blades otherwise.

@LuchoVena
@LuchoVena 4 жыл бұрын
because of nature of most multis and their construction, this breakage is fully expected and natural. Doesnt matter that type of hit u did, its how the string behaves with each other, which is the same in any spin shot u make/generate with any type of swing. They are all the same swing and spin, its just the racquet alignment what changes to make the different "types" of spin players generate. in fewer words, the mains are the ones moving on all types of spin.

@LuchoVena
@LuchoVena 4 жыл бұрын
interesting, moves too much? usually they start going "bad" is when they stop moving at contact. fresh string has less friction with each other and will slide with each other a lot more than when played, the notches then get dug in and the strings will move less and less, and snapback is eventually lost, all this before string breakage. IsoSpeed Cream is a softer poly, if you want something alike, go check out polyfibre, they are a hidden gem, soft and very playable. of those: Viper, Hexablade are my favorites

Great channel but I gotta say, # times / week, # restrings per year doesn’t seem to make any sense for poly. Max possible times per year would be 7 and that would mean not stringing for minimum of 7 weeks (52/7=7.4). If only played an hour at a time, you would be using the same strings for a minimum of 49 hours. If play 3x / wk for 2 hrs at a time (6 hrs / wk), this suggests you change strings every 17 weeks or after 102 hours. What poly doesn’t go dead long before 50 hrs of play? Most forums talk about strings going dead after 6 to 8 hrs, 25 hrs max. Maybe we need to add “for each racket” and assume we have like 5 rackets to bring in that many times per year. Otherwise we are talking strings other than poly.

I just strung my Prostaff Team with Gamma TNT2 16 as main with 49 - 47 lb and a co-poly string for cross 49 - 47. With this setup, the racquet felt like it has no power. Is this due to using soft string (TNT2)? It's just so weird. Normally with low tension, I would be worried about hitting the ball pass the base line, now I'm worried about not hitting the ball clean and not getting the ball over the net.
@LuchoVena
@LuchoVena 4 жыл бұрын
soft string = power...spring the crosses are stiff, less power, less spring its also a "team" racquet which normally means they are light with lower than standard swingweight, another low power factor, you need to swing faster to compensate. and clean at that, since u mentioned it yourself
