Sideways Effect: a concept that encompasses the idea that film and other narrative mediums can elicit such a visceral audience response that it has an effect on the outside world, leaving the confines of the screen and manifesting itself in reality. What does this say about our nature as humans? Are we naturally easily influenced, or is there something innately persuasive about the media we consume?

I think social media has just changed the way people imitate others. Before social media, most people ended up resembling people they spent time with. Nowadays people end up resembling the online circles they frequent instead. I don't think either is inherently worse.

I have a love and hate relationship with movies, sequels and series cuz when i finish a series for eg, i get so attached to the characters that get depressed when a character dies or has a bad ending, or if the show ends in general. That feeling lasts for a very short time but i hate it. Recently finished watching attack on titan and it felt horrible knowing whats gonna happen to the main character, from then on i try to reduce watching movies and sequels to the minimum.
