Rice's weakest area is progressive passing. I think when he is a 6 they will either go for a 2-3 buildup with 2 inverted wing backs OR a 3-2 buildup where he splits the central defenders and act as a half back

noticed from every matches in pre-season + wolves, Nicolas Jover definitely got more variety in his set-pieces strategy. we no longer see Ben White "disrupting" the GK anymore in those matches. which is hiilarious for me because when the new blocking rules started to become a conversation, Mikel Arteta's Arsenal and Nicolas Jover are already moved forward.

Different clubs/teams require different skills for different position. For example Poldoski is a striker for Koln. But when he goes to Arsenal he is put out wide (probably due to his good speed but less than stellar first touch) Being good for one team does not automatically translate to being good for another team.

Rice's role at West Ham was more of a disruptor. A player who can breakdown attacks and provide defensive cover for the back four. But for Arsenal, our style of play demands that our 6 be a ball-playing midfielder who can play passes between the lines and serve as a lone anchor for the midfield (like Partey). It would take time for him to adapt into that role, as it also took Partey two seasons to transition into that role from a double pivot with Grannit Xhaka.

Playing there for a ball dominat team and playing there for west ham is not the same. We can physically dominatebthe midfield with rice in the team as a box to box. But the 6 position is this arsenal team, is a dlp not a cdm.

This idea declan rice cant play 6 for us is so silly and so obviously based in assumption without watching us play. Many of our best performances last season came with declan at the 6. The only reason we moved away from it pver the season is because with timber and zinchenko not playing we lacked a bit of ball progression so added jorginho in. But with calafiori, timber, white and zinchenko now we have plenty of ball progression so we can go back to what was always the plan for declan.
