So how much are you making with 391 subs? I have more than 12.000, it's just difficult for me finding the time to one video per week, so I doubt I'd be able to also do videos on Patreon. How are you earning? Via shoutouts, videos, or what? And how many donate and how much?

Thanks for sharing, Eric. That's interesting, which video platform is that I wonder :p
@AriTheElk6 жыл бұрын
Zen-Dragon Why do you assume it's video? Patreon is for any sort of artist or content creator. There's plenty of people on patreon who have never uploaded a video in their life and still make a healthy salary. KZbin isn't the end-all-be-all for content creators. It's probably one of the hardest platforms to make a career out of, given the number of people on it. Also, you have a decent following on here, use it! I know it's a shitload of work but just commit. If you want to make it your career, it will never happen with the attitude of "it's too hard to make videos every week". Some people on here are making fully edited videos every day. Sure you're gonna have to make sacrifices, but there are very few fields where you can become successful without making huge sacrifices. If it's what you really want to do, ignore those thoughts and just commit.
@ZenDragonYoutubeChannel6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I've been uploading weekly content for more than 3 years straight and done lots to promote it. But I also work fulltime (which I've been doing almost 2 years now), and do a philantrophic project, so finding the time to create on another platform is very difficult, and giving up my job is a big risk, I'm finally at a point in my life where I can start a family without it being irresponsible... but we'll see... maybe Patreon or some other platform is worth it.

This seriously broke my heart wide open. I struggle so much, from the creative writing process, to the instruments I create on, how/where/if I am able to record, where it gets published, if I can or cannot tour, the videos I dream of making.... I Feel so much passion when I watch this, I've contributed at least a dozen views. Everytime I feel like quitting I re-watch this. One day I will get my first patron video up and can't wait to see how that turns out to be perfect. Thank you for this inspiring and speaking truths.

My husband and I saw him perform in a small bar in 2007 on one of our first dates and bought his CD and absolutely loved him. We no joke have listened to his older music off and on all these years and talk about him as one of our favorite musicians, not even resizing how far he's come. Then recently we stumbled upon his current band Pomplamoose and fell in love with this band, especially enjoying watching the rockin' keyboardist who is so entertaining to watch, not even knowing it was him. We literally just figured out last night that it's the Jack Conte we saw when we first met! Amazing! I'm so happy to see he's gone so far and I love that we got to experience him when he first got started and still have that CD. Loved him then and love what he's doing now. Keep it up Jack!

Patreon is an awesome platform for people like me to show my appreciation for exactly the type of content I enjoy most. I quit my cable subscription years ago when I found KZbin. All the home design and craft and cooking shows I had watched on cable were so bad compared to what I found on KZbin. Artists and creatives deserve to earn a living too.

It's mind blowing to see how many platforms are opening up the "digital economy"! Pity many people don't see VALUE in the arts.. They're cool with sports stars or politicians getting paid millions for minimal contribution to the world at large - but if you play music, paint or create things to help others enjoy their lives, you are looked down on like "get a REAL job!" 😂 Sad...

You can't prove them wrong. In a world of numbers nothing without a number has a value, no matter what it could accomplish.
@GuitarGrrrella5 жыл бұрын
Mel: Amen to that. I think the corporatization of the arts has a lot to do with that, i.e., people are used to listening to corporate radio, hearing same songs over and over again, and almost forced into "liking" or at least getting used to hearing certain songs, certain styles of music, etc. If we start taking initiatives, like opening our homes to artists--musicians who play house concerts, paintings who show their work at a house party, for examples, maybe we can wean people off of the corporate-created "art" and get people to appreciate real artists and creativity again. Problem is, too many of us artists keep trying to work with the system. We think we're going to be discovered and some rich guy's gonna save us. Ain't gonna happen. (Not unless you're 18-to-look younger, have a perfect body and are super flirtatious, that is...)
@jansa9405 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. But the top 1% of artists (musicians, painters, etc) do make a lot of money. And most of the athletes salary comes from television advertisers and endorsement deals.

This is very inspiring. It is hard to earn a living as an artist but part of the reason for that is that most of us creatives keep trying to make it the corporate way. We think some record co exec or some great agent or manager is gonna save us. We the people need to get creative in finding ways to provide a platform for struggling artists. House parties are one example. Why not open up your house or maybe your backyard or front lawn to a painter who needs to show her work or to a musician who needs a place to play? We can also stop watching mindless TV and start going out and supporting live art being created all around us. Yes, I'm being a bit idealistic. But I think we can make a change in our society to make things easier for creatives.

As I was watching this, I was thinking is a history lesson on how companies put copied artists recordings onto products. To then sell to the public making them a lot of money, but also as a favour to the artists so they can make a living. Then he talks about his experience of the digital age and how it's changed. How good, being on KZbin and under companies that compile to sell, artist content was a great way for artists to make a living, but then it went downhill, has it? The new way now being subscriptions for Artists, this is another company making money from artists. I thought this talk might have been about how Artists can set up their own way to finally get paid the full amount from their art and not under other companies. I guess the artist wouldn't get found and wouldn't make much, so in a way they are better off. But is there another way for Artists to finally get paid what they earn? I guess not unless they set up similar systems themselves.

I remember when I "discovered" Jack Conte on KZbin several years ago. It started with a weird video called "Boing Boing Kitty" that used his version of Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies in the background. It started breaking down the minute people got access to a great method of recording sound, the Internet part of the reason as the Internet is based on a protocol that makes it possible to interact with other machines, because communications go two ways at the same rate, broadcasting can't easily compete. by the way Sony pushed to develop MPEG which later led to MP3 and MP4, cause they want to sell movies on cds, cause it was easier to distribute and sell a CD. Combine the p2p nature of the internet with MPEG video/audio compression and it ruined everything..

What happens during an economic collapse, when individuals don't have any money? As much as I love Patreon, and I appreciate the value it brings to our community, I think relying on this kind of income is like relying on tipping, e.g. working as a server in a restaurant. They're high risk jobs because that is the first kind of expense people eliminate from their lives when they face financial hardship.
