A similar situation occurred in 1968 when Villa almost went bust and only a share issue supported by the fans saved us although it didn't stop us slipping into the old Division 3 (League 1 today) where we spent two seasons .... eventually we clawed our way back to Division 2 and then to Division 1 before becoming League Champions, European Champions and World Team runners up in Japan, what a turn around!

I'm very much looking forward to the future of the club with our new signings and background team. Only wweakness i see is mings, but i think u need his leadership in defense so a mistake or two is allowed i guess. And most important i genuinly see grealish staying at villa if u show some ambition. If he does and u move correct u can become an europaleague team and maybe challenge for top 4 some years. Best keeper in the prem since leno got hurt last year. Over 30 games since then not one mistake leading to goal. Not one shot he should have saved that went in. On top of that worldclass saves every game. From no clean sheets a whole season to second most behind city. For this last year he was the best keeper in the world. Not saying it continues but it looks like it atm. Abd we sold him for peanuts. Watch a big team spend more than 60mil on him over next two summers. My favourite part of the escape, (not mentioned) is how days before the arrival of Swarrif and Edens and Villa were about to go under due to a unpaid tax bill, Daniel Levy ( spurs chairman ) withdrew his offer of £10m for Grealish and replace it with £2.5m and Josh Onamah in exchange knowing we were desperate.🤣🤣🤣 Levy must be crying into his cornflakes everynmorning given Grealish is now one of the very best players in England. I think what a lot of people outside of Villa failed to appreciate was that Villa had to buy 13 players with 130 mil which may sound like a lot but after shelling out around 50 of that for mings and Wesley meant the remaining players were less than ten mil each which is nothing in the Premier league. I felt though if Villa could survive then they would consolidate well this season when they could buy a few quality key players and i think they will do the same this year too, Villa have an excellent team and a decent squad who seem united in the vision. If villa can keep the squad together and add quality once more in the summer they will only be stronger next season.
