In March 2021, the Guardian revealed that Premier League clubs had spent a combined £272million on agents’ fees over the previous twelve months, with Chelsea the highest spenders on £35.2million, West Brom the lowest on £4.2million, and Gillingham the only club in the top four divisions of English football to not pay anything. And weirdly, this represented an increase on the year before (£263m) despite top flight clubs making huge losses in the pandemic, and with transfer spending decreasing by 10.6% between 2019 and 2020.
Figures like this suggest that the power that football agents hold in the game is continuing to grow, with their profits increasing even as those in other areas of the industry plummet. According to Forbes, Jonathan Barnett, Jorge Mendes and Mino Raiola all rank among the top five most lucrative sports agents in the world, making more money from their profession than any agent working in basketball or American football.
And according to BILD, Raiola will demand wages of £825,000 a week for his most sought after client, Erling Haaland, as well as agent fees totalling almost £35million (34.3m) once the Norwegian striker’s release clause comes into effect next summer. But why are figures like Raiola able to exploit the transfer market like this?

Why do clubs pay agent fees when it is the footballers that employ them. Sherly all agents fees should be payed by the players.

Clubs have chosen to be the employers of agents as well as players. Clubs could freeze out agents if they wanted to but find its easier to work with them when it suits them and moan about them when it doesn't.

Age has become the no 1 thing now, because if potential value, either to the club ir sell on, then comes actual talent (however you put a price on something that intangible is the same as artwork), marketability (mostly shirt sales, think ibra when he moved to man u, & all the stars to the us), then a few other things. I'm no expert but have heard those top 2 before

Not really, agents can’t function without a player while a player can jus find another agent. Agents need footballers more than they need them so it wouldn’t make sense

I think this video was long on describing the role which is clear, but is totally lacking in explaining how they are able to earn what they do and given that clubs pay them how they provide them with value.

Clubs should not pay other fees not involving the players, yes they can pay sign on fees, transfer fees and wages. And not agent fees,Agent fees should be played by the players themselves as they employ them and the agents have nothing to do with the club. It is like asking the club to pay the players’ personal chef which is utter nonsense.

Kevin didn't negotiate anything, Manchester City wanted him to stay and besides he is their best player. Anything you want is exactly what you will get just as Kane did at Hotspurs. We will get to know how good he negotiated when there's no mention of a "gentlemen's agreement".

For me, any player that signs with an agent the likes of raiola is just as guilty for the way the game has gone/is going, in terms of the money( ultimately, its us that pay these fees, were the customers) and thus "gentrification" in and of the sport as anyone and anything. That they have a responsibility to the game and fans, to keep it sustainable, affordable and accessible for the generations to come. It's already a vastly different sport/game/business than it was when I was growing up, (born 91) And it's about 50/50 in terms of the changes that are good and bad. I could list a few but mainly its relating to the culture of he sport, and that's an umbrella that covers a whole heap of stuff as I'm sure you all well aware. Don't get me wrong, I'll always love the sport, and watch the highest level. But am finding myself increasingly drawn towards the lower levels. I've always been involved either playing, coaching or supporting any local teams, from pub league all the way up to semi-pro level. But just feels like I'm losing touch and a connection to the actual sport as a whole the higher up the league's you go. Also the effects social media and tech has had on fan culture/interaction. Some brilliant! Much like yourselves of course, and a few others. But the downsides are obvious to all of us as well I think.
@c45p3r100
@c45p3r100 2 жыл бұрын
Just an example of how he culture is being changed. It feels its becoming increasingly more about individuals as opposed to the team. As well as, at times players/their representative/'s actually opposing their team. (If that reads right?) I.e Zlatan and riaola Vs FIFA/EA. Players aren't just players any more they're now also "brands". When a club buys a big player now they aren't just paying for his on pitch performance, Shirt sales, sponsorships etc. Even social media support/following if the player is big enough, as it's all marketing and will add "clicks/likes/follows" to the club. like I've said, it's ultimately us that foot the bill. Bassicly, in my eyes. This is a major factor in why football is no longer the working man's or working class game.

Players are Britney Spears and these agents/broker/(dalle saale - in hindi) are her Dad. These brokers, in any profession, has no talent of their own, and live on like parasites. They keep a control on information and tap on resources, which takes the price higher. Worst example is property brokers, and consumers eventually pay for their leisure. 5% of 20 is always biggers than 5% of 120.
