I would say the title of the interview is "click baity" but even old school print headlines were misleading. But I guess the headline succeeded in making me look at this author's work. Mission accomplished.

Redefining is a strong word, but she is a very good author
@billyalarie9293 ай бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. She’s published a book a year, in a 13 year career. It’s hard to be impactful with that kind of output. Shes churning them out, not really honing well enough to even be called a regular master of this particular skill. It’s intriguing, flash-in-the-pan stuff, simply because she’s got a lot of followers and subscribers, but not really made something that TRULY stands out. The same can be said for Brandon Sanderson.

She has done nothing in her career to redefine fantasy genre. She is has written basic tropes with mediocre writing. It's Brandon Sanderson who is redefining fantasy with his books set in multi verse called cosmere.

Schwab has not redefined fantasy fiction and there is nothing special or unique about her writing or her ideas. Even the interviewer hasn't read more than the plot summary of one of her books, which must mean this whole segment is a run of the mill promotional hyperbolic yawn. Typical.

This is redefining for the interviewer and speakers most likely. Neil Gaiman has done what she has done already. But even though yes this is a click bait title, it’s still heart warming to see that there are a variety of authors who inspire others and show the wide breadth that fantasy has to offer

Fantasy has always been and will always be my favourite genre. However these days the genre has been destroyed by the influx of weak authors producing horrible story telling. And you have to swim through crap to find a gem. However I guess it depends on the reader to make a judgement. Haven’t tried VE Schwab yet - so judgement reserved.

I read a lot of fantasy and I am pretty judgemental about it, but V. E. Schwab is hands down one of the best fantasy authors. I recommend giving her work a try. Addie LaRue is a good standalone, but not my favorite. Vicious is a bit more out there, but the Shades of Magic series would be my personal pick.

@Belemrys2 ай бұрын
@@asoiseth The Failures by Benjamin Liar came out this summer and it was so different than what we are used to...Same with Christopher Ruocchio who has recently been getting the praise he deserves. Howard Andrew Jones also is doing something that hasn't been done in decades with his series on Hanuvar with episodic storytelling where each chapter is a short story that adds up to an epic quest. Again, Schawb is a fine author but she isn't doing anything outside the norm in Fantasy. I would point to Emilia Hart or Shauna Lawless for women authors doing something different. Schawb is doing a lot of the same things Rowling and Diane Wynne Jones did...just my opinion!
