Same here with my 2012 RAV4 with V-6 engine, 5-spd. auto trans, and 58k miles. Also goes for my 2006 F-150 4x4 with 4.6L V-8 engine, 4-spd. auto trans. and 48k miles. If I do anything to the F-150, it will be to replace the old 4-spd. auto with a newer 6-spd. auto for better road mileage. Even with the 4-spd. auto, I get 16-17 mpg from this truck, which isn't bad in the truck world.

66% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. 70% of Americans buy used cars. Asking or even mandating Americans to buy an EV is not a winning proposition. Those Americans can't afford to miss when they purchase a , "new to me" car. Therefore they are going to stay with what they know. They're asking (or basically telling you) buy an EV. No amount of EV information/ education is going to change the fact the initial outlay is just to much for many Americans. Regardless of the claimed long-term savings. No I never drove an EV. Probably won't ever drive an EV. I am that 66% & that 70%.

After 2007 cars got more and more complex. Stuff added which no one asked for. Each year it got worse complexity for complexities sake. EV's just follow this trend but are worse as offerings are high end and wallet shattering... impossible for so many Blame? Car companies of course but also the governments, the press, the regulators, environmental nuts, safety nuts, NGOs and the insurance companies. It's a mess.

Automakers are being killed by the lack of demand for EVs - is the more realistic way to describe it. Even with company tax breaks, government bribes and no fuel duty or road tax to pay people still know that EVs are environmentally hostile to manufacture and no use for the majority of drivers who will still need a real car for a significant number of times per year if not weekly or daily.

@GaryH-pw9cmАй бұрын
It will be decades before the required infrastructure is in place to support EVs. By then some new form of power for vehicles will come along and make EVs obsolete anyway. Many advancements are being made in E fuels and hydrogen for example that could make EVs obsolete at any time. Auto manufactures listening to government instead of the customer has created the EV oversupply problem car dealers have now. ICE cars and trucks now have higher prices as manufactures try to cover their EVs sales loss. They can't keep making EVs at a loss without going bankrupt. Make cars and trucks that people actually want at a reasonable price. It is the only way out of the current situation.
@esbi3825Ай бұрын
E fuels and hydrogen are total bs, the next one everyone will fall for. Hydrogen is too expensive, not clean, incredibly hard to transport and store, super expensive. No way its gonna work, no way at all, its gonna end much sooner than ev, the bs will be very short
@ilovecheeseburgers7462Ай бұрын
The biggest problem with EV's is the batteries and charging of the batteries. This should have been addresses first. What if batteries had size classes. Like our remote batteries. They would be standardized in a way that an A battery would be a certain size and power output. The B battery would be larger with more power output. Yet a car that is designed for a B size battery can accept an A battery, just loosing range. The reason for the different sizes is because you open the hood or trunk and slide out the battery and slide in one fully charged. You would never buy the battery with the car. You would lease it monthly. EV owners would have one battery station in town they go to swap batteries in under five minutes. Going somewhere without a battery swap station just charge the one you have. Battery stations would be able to charge these batteries at optimal rates maximizing lifespan and be able to do it during daytime hours with solar panel arrays to further decrease fossil fuels. As batteries age out of use they get replaced further removing the EV owner of replacing failing batteries.
@robertfrank886Ай бұрын
Here’s my list: -Too much $$$ -Fire risk which is real (and insurance is way more expensive as losses are higher with collisions with an EV, if the insurance companies will insure you at all) -Not really better for the environment due to mining minerals and CO2 cost upfront to build one -Too long to charge -Depreciation is insane, so electrics are essentially disposable items ultimately. And for new ICE cars: Still too much $$$ such that people are keeping their older cars running which is a smarter move.
@edb3877Ай бұрын
"Depreciation is insane, so electrics are essentially disposable items ultimately." Right, just like any other appliance. Real cars and trucks have engines. Wannabees have batteries.
@japojo1958Ай бұрын
You missed the most important points. The roar of engines is not important. I don't want an EV because I don't want my house to be burned to the foundations when my EV goes into thermal runaway. I don't want a car I have to throw away at 8 years or less because the lithium ion battery is worn out. How green is it to make throw away cars? I don't want a car that costs me twice as much to buy and which has no mechanics or parts availability to repair it. And one more thing you missed; I don't want a car that is shoved down my throat by the same ilk of government that locked me in my home needlessly for 2 years. And shall I mention the Canadian winter?

When the battery pack reaches end of life the car is scrap and that could be anywhere from 8 years, sound like a bargain, and of course the deprecation. I have just bought a Merc 12 years old with 45K for less than half the cost of a replacement EV battery. I enjoy motoring and have done for 60 years but burning that kind of money on leasing a car let alone an EV you have to be stupid.

@gradywilson9213Ай бұрын
Forget all you have said, I am going to give everyone a reason to pass on EV s. Over time the battery loses its capacity to fully charge, which means you are not getting what you paid for. So you are concern about the environment. Recently a Tesla caught on fire on the I-15 in the California desert near Las Vegas, it took 50 thousand gallons of water to put the fire out, and over 18 man power hours closing the freeway the entire time. People were stuck on the road at over 100 degrees without food or water. Remember I said 50K gallons of water in the desert, I wonder if the desert environment could use 50K of water. Now imagine that happening in the middle of Manhattan, with traffic jams, and all the foot traffic, only a matter of time. Eventually you will need to replace the battery which will wipe out, any savings on gas. $$$
@mafp22wАй бұрын
All the points are minor in compared to issues of cost. No one cares which car they pick. If they do the same thing at a better cost, that product will win out. ICE’s are far more complex and maintenance higher than electric. China is way ahead in EV’s. Why? Because they are much cheaper there. You can get an EV there for perhaps $10K. If the USA had the same availability, it would be game over for ICE.
