A reunion in 2006 would've been amazing. Axl's voice was sensational back then, he had the energy, stage presence and even the sense of danger was back. That would've been the time.

He sure did. I think there's a bit more to the story than what Slash says. I'm sure he was there to settle a lawsuit like he says, but it's quite possible they kicked the tires on the reunion idea. Especially considering the fact that he wasn't too happy with VR at the time. Given all the info from this video, I could see a scenario where Axl proposed a deal similar to what's discussed in this video. It would've been a win win for him.

All GNR members were millionaires when they left the band to form other bands or do other projects. They did everything else for fun and to show that they are doing something. The only solid thing was the reunion in 2016 followed by the ongoing tour for the past seven years. Every member gets paid $ 4 million dollars per show. This made them "put their differences aside." GNR was their money making in the 1980s through the 90s and then again from 2016 forward. Franchise.

I'll never understand how Axl could think that he ALONE was responsible for all of Guns N' Roses success. It's funny how both Axl and Slash are kind of musical geniuses, but Axl is a totally unhinged dictator and Slash is so mellow and laid back. I loved VR for me the 2 albums were the real follow up from the UYI albums, not whatever Axl was doing. If Axl wanted to do his own thing, why didn't he just do it as a solo or side project & get back to the boys later, rather than takeover the whole thing. Being a wannabe hard rock/metal singer in my youth, I usually follow the vocalist but the greatest magic only comes with a great guitarist(s) & rhythm section. Just like Axl was better with Slash & co., so was Scott. I also think Chris Cornell was able to make his best magic (outside of Soundgarden) with the RATM boys in Audioslave. That was awesome too.

9:06-9:21 Key Quote: "I kind of left that behind me in 1996, that's 10 years ago, that's a whole other lifetime..." For sure--but it shows what an impact a band like G n' R had that 10 years, 20 years, coming up on 30 years, PEOPLE WOULD STILL CARE! There's a certain magic in real music--no one can really express what it is..."lightning in a bottle" they often say. That's what G n' R was. And yeah, there were lineup changes, but they kept the magic going a little longer. Matt contributed to that. I get that he has to move on personally/professionally, but it is a great thing you were a part of, sir.

Totally agree with you--and I still can't put my finger on it: but the sense of cool, "let's just have fun, everybody", vs the politicking, power-grabbing alternative is a huge dichotomy. Granted, Axl's business sense may have served the band well in terms of becoming as successful as they did (he is super smart and won't let himself or the band he's a part of get taken advantage of), but Slash definitely has a more like-able personality. That's why they make such a great duo, imo...it's like a frickin' marriage.

@Joel Veedler I agree! It started with Adler n after Izzy they just lost that Rock n Roll grit n danger that they once perpetrated. Like when Matt Sorum once said about all the stage dancers n piano he was like damn I thought I joined a rock band. When he voiced it he was ax’d by Axl “diva” Rose
