It's so sad that I literally forgot all about him, he was HUGE 10 years ago. It's so crazy to think hes the one who gave Bruno Mars his breakout start in music to the mainstream public with "Nothing on you." @@OK-xp5xi It was a romance writers panel. I write Black queer romance, but most romances are still marketed to cishet white women. But *I* write for Black queer people, and one of the things we were discussing was editing and marketing, and how my target audience and my publishers target audience aren’t the same. Sometimes my editors will want clarification for terms (like “the itis” for instance) that Black people will understand. So there’s a but if push and pull between them wanting to market toward a whiter audience, and therefore wanting me to explain cultural terms, and me being resistant to doing that because *my* readers don’t need it.

This is objectively false. I say this as someone who's been a fan since 2009. B.o.B was a phenomenal artist who made timeless music throughout his career. Listen to "One Day", "Coastline", "Joburg" and "E.T." for example. He didn't ride the wave, he created his own, so he could never be surpassed. The thing is... he changed his style. His music didn't become dated even by mainstream standards, have you not listened to Ether or any album after that? He slowly abandoned what made him so special to make music that reflects what's popular. It got to a point where he no longer sounds unique, like he's not even trying anymore. Now he just makes what I call strip club music... he rather talk about ejaculating on women than something actually meaningful. So it's funny you say his music didn't change... it did... and for the worst.

If you listen closely to the song "watchers" or many other songs in his catalogue, you will quickly realize why he stopped to be a mainstream artist. He rapped about conciousness, universe, hologram, iluminatti, paranormal, religion, consipracy, human development and knowledge and many other subjects with great delivery, tight lyricism and unique flow. Industry just want you to think less and promote superficial and materialistic lifestyle so they can make a deal with some brand and sell you something. Earliest collaboration I can think of that didn't involve a lady singer for a romantic song is from Nas & Lauryn Hill, If I Ruled the World. Most of Mariah's collaborations with a rapper had to do with some type of romance, even if it was just a flirtatious party song (not really romantic per se).
