Ben Simmons’ situation against Atlanta, reminds me of Nick Anderson in Game 1 of the 1995 Finals. Missed 4 FTs in the last minute as a 80% FT shooter. Orlando lost in O/T, never recovered and got swept. Nick was the 3rd offensive option for Orlando behind Shaq and Penny. Nick went from a 18-20 ppg guy which is like 23-24 ppg now, based on increased pace and 3s, to a scrub scared to shoot FTs. That moment killed his confidence and destroyed his career.

It just blows my mind that you can play basketball most of your life, high school, college, professionally, and never develop a jump shot…especially when you are bigger and stronger than most players on the court…Ben is a classic example of someone supremely talented, but with no drive or work ethic to get better. He has t changed at all since he was drafted. In fact he’s regressed in areas he use to excel at. And don’t let his assist numbers fool you. Half of them are just him passing up open shots and getting bailed out by teammates who are actually willing to drive to the basket or take a jumper. He is a garbage time player with garbage time stats at best when he is actually healthy. Dude would rather sit at home and play COD, which is fine, but a franchise is paying you millions to work on your game and body and be ready…it’s so frustrating to watch him squander his career. His mistake was leaving Philly. We all see now how Joel Embiid makes players around him better. Without him the 6ers look like a sub .500 team. And without Joel, Simmons looks like a player at the end of his career.

The people closest around him probably failed him the most.. When he just needed someone to keep it real, his insiders would tell him he doesn't need to shoot, he just needs a team around him of shooters. His shooting coach has always been one of his family members, despite his shooting always being his worst attribute, he never changed coaches. When you are told your are perfect your whole life and anyone saying anything different is just a hater, so you are taught to ignore them,,,, then where will the motivation to get better come from? We never saw any genuine self reflection or accountability from him, so to me his issues started and will end with the people around him coddling him and never once telling it like it is... He was a sensational athlete, extremely talented, high IQ on the court, but every basketball player needs to develop, and after his rookie season, the league figured him out, and he didn't do a single thing to counter that... It's honestly a sad story when you talk of potential, and no single one thing explains his failure as an NBA player, but I believe the people around him and Ben for choosing to only listen to them, is why he is where he is now.

Some people did say he was a jumpshot away from being the next lebron
@dondon-t1l10 ай бұрын
well he's living up to that hype, still can't shoot after all these years, can't shoot free throws, and now lost all the defense he ever had. Yup he's the next lebron

I feel like these "How BAD is ____ Actually?" videos need to focus more on what the title says - how bad were these players? I understand covering some of their backstory, but this video is mostly just a retelling of his entire history, bit by bit. We need more stats, comparisons to others at the position, advanced analytics detailing how they rank in various categories, etc. Not trying to criticize too much, but it'd be nice to know how bad these players ACTUALLY are, if at they're "bad" at all.
