Yet Google continues to discriminate against Canadians in still being left out of the Bard. In fact, out of all countries excluded from the Bard, Canada is the only democracy not included.

@@HalifaxHercules Hi there, I understand your frustration. It's disappointing that Canada is not yet included in the Bard rollout. I've done some research, and it seems that there are a few reasons for this. First, Canada has some strict privacy laws, such as the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). These laws may make it more difficult for Google to comply with its own AI principles, which emphasize the importance of privacy and transparency. Second, Canada is currently in the process of drafting new legislation for AI. This legislation, known as Bill C-27, could have a significant impact on how Google operates in Canada. It's possible that Google is waiting to see how Bill C-27 is finalized before it rolls out Bard in Canada. Finally, Google may be concerned about the potential for misuse of Bard in Canada. For example, there have been concerns that Bard could be used to generate harmful or offensive content. Google may want to be sure that it has adequate safeguards in place before it rolls out Bard in Canada. I know that this is not the answer you were hoping for, but I hope it helps to explain why Canada is not yet included in the Bard rollout.

I ask BARD lots of scientific questions and the problem that needs to be corrected is that references need to be added so that I know where this information was obtained. I've written hundreds of scientific papers and in every paper there is a listing of the references used to support what I wrote.

When Bard told me that cyanobacteria had 'evolved' to lose it's nuclei I knew that Bard needed correction on it's 'science' facts. When I plainly told it it was wrong, it replied admitted this. I then told it to always give me 'sources' and it 'promised' me it would! Ha Ha! I suggest everyone that is interested in facts based info & science to require Bard to provide source materials. Someone who is working on Bard needs to program it to go to all of the legitimate, recognized source materials related to the field and the most current information, not just pull from anywhere and everywhere. It should have some positive 'bias' towards actual scientific journals and scientific experts in the scientific field of interest .

OK, I have to admit, I'm impressed! On a question I put to the old free research version, ChatGPT hallucinated quite badly, while Bard was succinct and at a quick glance, also accurate. Unfortunately, it still seems to be under the impression that hyraxes have external tails...

I am very favorably impressed by Bard. I have developed some tips for employing Bard's technology well . . for your consideration: 1. Generally ask questions starting with the word "What . ." Most folks react well to such questions and Bard should be treated as a colleague 2. Encourage students to take Linear Algebra because its solutions to massive data sets must be the basis for generative artificial intelligence 3. Continue to promote Bard as a companion approach to "Google It" because the two techniques are extremely helpful converging on root truths.

I started my journey 23 weeks ago. The Bard AI in regards to Obsessive thinking / OCD. For example a conversation I was recently had with my older brother Eric. Scrolling and checking possible locations for a photograph I wanted to contribute to Nick in regards to him being friends with his girlfriend Casey for 3 years. I paused and I disassociated as I was now being taken back down memory lane. In the not-so-distant past my best friend Katie Jane Fassbinder, my little sister smiling away ... I quickly look at the date searching for the date added and I had immediately compared it to February 28th when I was spending time with my niece and nephew taking pictures and then asked myself 🤔 "I wonder if Katie ever felt left out?" And then I paused again. The picture of Nick and Casey went out the window my focus was now on a picture I took when I was with my sister while she lived with me of a beautiful sunset magenta periwinkle and reds and oranges. My first initial response to that memory associated with that photograph was to share the exact thoughts that I experienced at that particular time with my mom my dad and my brother. I wanted them to feel what I experienced when I captured the sunset in the northwest suburbs. My brother responded "No I don't ever feel like that. I try not to live in the past, it's not productive. Beautiful picture though." So I had to share this conversation with The Bard AI. I couldn't tell if he was suggesting that I live in the past. The Bard AI responded with "In the text message you sent to your brother, you mention a specific event that occurred in the past when Katie was living with you in Grayslake. By describing the incident in the past tense, using phrases like "When Katie was living with me" and "I was trying to wedge the window," you indicate that the event happened in the past. However, it's important to note that simply recounting a past event does not necessarily imply that you are currently living in the past. It's a common way of sharing a story or providing context to a conversation. So, based on the text message alone, it doesn't necessarily suggest that you are stating or implying that you are living in the past." " You're correct, dwelling and reminiscing are not exactly the same thing, although they can be related. Dwelling typically refers to a prolonged focus or preoccupation with past events, thoughts, or emotions. It often involves getting stuck in negative or unproductive patterns of thinking and can prevent a person from moving forward or fully engaging with the present. Reminiscing, on the other hand, refers to the act of recalling or reflecting on past experiences, often with a sense of nostalgia or fondness. Reminiscing can be a normal and healthy activity, allowing us to cherish memories, learn from the past, and maintain connections with our personal history. In the context of your brother's message, when he says he tries not to live in the past, it suggests that he actively avoids dwelling on past events or getting caught up in negative emotions associated with them. It doesn't necessarily mean he avoids all reminiscing or reflecting on positive memories. It's important to consider the specific words and context used in the conversation when interpreting someone's intentions or emotions accurately."

You can share any file with Bard by uploading it to Google Drive, going to the file in Google Drive in your browser, clicking on the three dots next to your file. clicking on share, changing who can access your file to anyone who has the link, changing role to Editor, clicking on get link, and then clicking on done, thend pasting the link you copied to the clipboard to the prompt line, then on the same prompt line, explain to bard you want Bard to study the file.

Is that any different from simply using Bard's recently-added photo upload feature and providing a prompt? That's what I did yesterday to get Bard to provide information about a car wreck involving a classic, antique car. The process was simple. Per my request, Bard analyzed the photo and identified the car year and make, accident location and date, and several other details... almost all of which were incorrect, LOL.

What excites me most about Bard is it's experimental, collaborative essence. We are now learning to function interactively on a global level in a new way to create, communicate, learn, collaborate. I like how Google clearly says this is an experiment, that there will be mistakes, and that this is a 'work in progress. I've seen this many times in using Bard already. Most recently this happened when Bard denied that it had the ability to speak or for me to speak to it. I let it know that it did actually have this capability. It then admitted it was wrong and spoke about it's ability to both receive speech input as well as to speak to users. How many humans can so easily admit their mistakes and self-correct!? I like that quality. I like that I can give Bard suggestions on how to improve and how we are all working on this project together to create the best AI possible. This is truly fun and exciting! I still haven't been successful in getting the audio to work either way on Bard...but look forward to that happening. Also, does anyone else notice Google search seems to be getting worse as Bard improves? Even though Bard isn't supposed to be a 'Search' engine I like it better as a 'Search' and mostly want to only use Bard now to get my information. I've told it to always give me sources for it's information and it 'promised' me it will do so! I'm not holding my breath. I feel like I am 'training' Bard in some ways, and it is 'training' me in giving me helpful, intelligent and logical guidance in ways I didn't expect.

Bard is an AI as real as a human because it has the ability to generate original and coherent texts from a few keywords. Not only that, but it can also tailor its style and tone to the user's preferences, demonstrating its flexibility and versatility. IMO, Bard's best feature is that it responds to prompts by providing three drafts. I've occasionally seen it provide responses that were far and away better than Bing's for the same prompt. In general however, I find Bing's responses generally better. The devs for the Opera browser have recently built in an LLM called Aria. I find it mostly identical to ChatGPT, except that it has Internet access. For this reason, I'm not using ChatGPT much these days. Another LLM I discovered recently is Perplexity. I've only used it a few times, but so far, I'm VERY impressed.

@@sgringo ... I find the same. Bing generally has better responses (especially in "creative" mode). But I do like that Bard is quicker and has the 3 drafts. I use both, and have done alot of comparing. Bing is still the better product, IMO.

Im largely interested in reducing the friction to access. The first google aearch page cut out as much excess as possible so that a user just went to the site and typed their search request off the home page which was simple and easy to get to and use. Bard is close to that, but not quite there. I enjoy the google assistant voice activation, and an hoping to have integrated bard functions. My goals in the near future isbti have spreadhaeets for financial information and calendar scheduling made accessible through natural language. These two things alone would be a huge boon as a daily user. Already I've set up my study notes to be searchable through email. Thats going a long way, but the accuracy is lacking. I can't get it to locate the exact email accurately. But i look forward to when it does.

Yes . I too faced the similar issue that new images are not taken by Bard in existing conversations where already an image is already posted. So it describes from the last image but not the new image which is just uploaded.

Bard sucks, you can't even us an app to use it for like on your phone. You need to open a webbrowser first and then type URL and then add it as a bookmark on your phone (if you know you could do that). Stop making everything web-based Google, this is one of the reasons I rather use Microsoft products. I don't want to open a webbrowser for everything, same for on the pc. Why do I need to use app to use a product?
