Those who revisited Tim Burton's original "Beetlejuice" before seeing the long-gestating sequel may have noticed that, amid the return of familiar faces like Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton, a few main actors are largely absent from the follow-up -- including one who's missing for a pretty good reason.

I figured it had to do with the issues, plus royalties and residuals to the actor. There is a famous case where Crispen Glover sued because another actor played him in "Back to the future 2" and he was replaced by another actor in prosthetics to look like him. If they tried to recast him in this sequel they would have to pay him. They were ingenious about how they dealt with it by a. writing him out of (and continuity with) the story with a plane crash, and b. having a shark eat him so no likeness of his upper body could be used in beetlejuice 2. This was they stuck another actor in the dismembered suit and called it good. Burton did some creative writing to get around the issues and still keep the movie going.
@CoolGobyFish
@CoolGobyFish 19 күн бұрын
there was no need for the "creative writing" since he was a minor character. Lydia is a 52 year old woman. There was need to bring back her parents or explain their absence. also, they still had to pay him for using his photo and his cartoon likeness.

Whenever people throw around the c-word, "controversial," I always have to vet further to find out if there is a real controversy surrounding this person, or if it's someone trying to contrive a controversy using that word to poison the well. I'm happy to report it's the former in this case, but we're also talking about something that happened 20+ years ago. Some crimes merit locking the person up and throwing away the key, some crimes merit the death penalty, but in the vast majority of cases where we decide that's too extreme a punishment, there needs to come a point when we're not gonna begrudge this person picking himself up off the floor, finding work and rebuilding his life. Not saying you should invite guys like this to your child's birthday party. You're not obligated to trust disgraced people when they say they've turned over a new leaf, but I just think the online space is infested with people who are absolutely rabid and latch onto this never-ending supply of disgrace stories for their own self-serving reasons. They want a safe, socially acceptable outlet for their unceasing cruelty, and if they can trick people into thinking there's any valor in what they do, then that's a bonus.

To be honest, the movie was such a huge, messy and disgusting disappointment to me, to the point that only the opening is worth it. Just as disappointing as Keaton as Batman in "The Flash" (a charlatan Batman in the line of all the other Batman actors). In dealing with the absence of the character Charles and his actor Jeffrey Jones in this movie, I must say that his headless character, splitting blood and speaking with that drowned-like voice is beyond any question one of the most absurd and disgusting features of the movie. I personally consider that it would have been much better not to include him, as they did with the Maitlands (Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin).

Frankly, from an artistic/story level I’m not sure why there was a remake of this movie. When it came out 35 years ago, it was ok. It got positive reviews, but it was no smash. There’s been a bad broadway adaption I was forced to see, and a lot of the original cast isn’t in it. This is just another Hollywood movie based on existing IP that represents low studio risk. Apparently it’s done well at the box office, but I would have loved to have seen an original idea instead of a retread of the same story.

Didn’t know, don’t care. Private life doesn’t equal professional life. He committed a crime, got punished and paid his dues. But still getting ostracized? Yeah, cool system you got going there. Apparently people don’t believe in their own laws. Do I like or excuse what he did? No. But you either give people a fair trial and a second chance or you don’t. And you do that by trial, not be emotion. All preachy them Americans obsessed with their religions but redemption is off the table, huh. Glad the movie was most fun I’ve had in the cinema in a while.

There's a difference between "he beat his wife and they argued in court about it" and "he's a pedophile with terabytes of cp". One is private and doesn't need to represent your carrer, but the other one is just straight up jail.
@Lock2002ful
@Lock2002ful 6 күн бұрын
@@simplepointstudio6210 Carrer? What word is that? Well, he beat his wife is probably the one with jail as by simply having cp on a computer is the person didn’t hurt anyone. Not to mention that depending on country cp is just normal p. Especially Americans are weird when it comes to everything sexual. Having sex with a 16yo as an adult is somehow a crime or child something. Well, not in the rest of the world. Same with the legal drinking age. But it doesn’t matter, both of these examples still fall under against the law and according to the law, depending on country, a just punishment will be decided and after said punishment the person will have paid his dues and deserves a second chance, period. Also, it’s all private and has nothing to do with the job a person is doing.

I've never seen any news reports that Jones physically harmed a child or was in possession of genuine child pornography. What he was actually arrested for an added to the sex offender registry for was just for taking nude photographs of a teenage boy (who consented to he photographed and was paid for being a model). I'd have no sympathy for Jeffrey Jones if he'd molested a kid or had a library of photographs of children being horribly harmed. But having a teenager pose for nude photos is not unforgivable sexual abuse. He should still be in movies, he never contributed to actual child harm. I actually think his offense was kind of funny and it's unfortunate his career was ended and his life more or less ruined. Artists and photographers take photographs of teenagers in states of undress all the time and they're not considered pedophiles for it. He wasn't a creepy peeping tom hiding in a bush with a telephoto lens, either. He hired a teenage nude model who happened to be underage. The kid was 17 when he reported what happened and sued Jones or whatever, but he might have been as young as 14 when the photos were taken. It's not even clear that Jones is gay or sexually attracted to teen boys. For all we know, they were non-pornographic, non-erotic nude photos. It's unlikely since he probably would have protested loudly if it was totally non-sexual art photography, but police have been known to charge people with possession of child pornography for having totally non-erotic legitimate photographs of children not wearing clothing. Jones of course should have made sure his photography models were 18 or whatever the local age of consent is. But he's no rapist or child abuser. I'm disappointed he's not in movies anymore. He's had decades of punishment for this, it's way disproportionate for an apparently completely victimless crime. Maybe there's more to the case then I know, but I've read a lot of stories on it and the worst of it is that he paid a teen boy for a photo session. There was no physicial contact with the teen. Jones should never be grouped with rapists. I wouldn't have him hang out unsupervised with children, but I'd be happy to see him perform.

Spoiler! Spoiler! Spoiler! Spoiler! Spoiler! Spoiler! The film was...good, but they put too much stuff into it so no story line seems important. there is the lost father story splitted into two, first Lydia, than her daughter Astrid. besides that there is Beetlejuice obsession with lydia what leads him to haunt her...somehow. than there is his exwife which wants too...kill beetlejuice? and there is the story about lydias boyfriend... you cant squeeze so much into one film. the ex wife dont get enough screen time and her story is wasted, lydias father is shown in a few scenes without real meaning for the story. Astrids father....is shown rarely without explanation why lydia cant see him even he watches them...and there is no explanation for Beetlejuice obsession with lydia, in the first film he wanted to marry her so he could leave the ghost world...but here it seems hes in love? The end is weird as well, finally we see the ex-wife and she gets eaten by a sand worm like BJ in the first film...but this would mean she still walks arround in the ghost world and is still a threat. it feelt really off...but he film was good.

No controversies? Richard Marx cackled with sadistic pleasure when Rand Paul was violently assaulted by some radical extremist, and even bragged about it, yet instead of being cancelled for glorifying and trivializing violent extremism, one of his stupid songs gets hamfisted into a scene in this movie. That's only one reason why the original movie is still better than this one.
