The humour in your lessons lifts them above their already high standard. I have to replay the bits I miss while I'm laughing!

These picks got me into finger style guitar. I just thought they were such a good idea I ordered them. Beginner or professional they’re good to have in your arsenal.

As usual - thank you for the lesson. Great exercise. Was able to follow it using a thumbpick. Having a thumbpick actually helps with the "hit the low E with thumb, hit the D and G with index and middle fingers" part of the exercise.

Great video. Wonder if you have the finger slide they make? Like to see your review of that. I have seen a lot of videos to help people break out of “the boxes”. I think string pairs and single string exercises are the best for that. Thanks for posting.

Funny you should mention the key of E as the classiest of all. I think you also called the key of A the most beautiful and I'm sure you gave similar descriptions to some others in the past. Curious as to how you'd describe each of the 7 major keys in terms of "feel". Of the minor ones, I'm used to hear Dmin as being the saddest of them all and I'm inclined to agree.

This has become one of my default ways of playing. I think it all started for me with a Stich video on harmonizing by 6th's (although it's always been easier to go hunting for notes up and down the neck, rather than in the "cages" - although that's less so as the years burn away or plop to the ground around me and putrefy ... sorry, poetry, man, pointless resisting when The Muse makes you Ode ... ) Er... Ja, so Stich 6ths, to add to the traditional note hunting technique. And from that, finding some tabs that revealed there were three string chords up and down the neck for some GBV songs, etc. That would be the other alternative beginner path, I think: Instead of learning the contortionist's chords right away, keep to the three highest strings (like I seem to recall the classical lessons do), and just play the high end of the chords, with occasional drones. That's kind of like applying this new technique of yours back-to-front. Main benefit is staying away from the nut and the heavier strings and stretches is kinder to finger tips and tendons and joints, etc. Main danger is it's really tempting to just go grooving in that spot all the time from then on. Although it should be all about music, so for most people that's going to keep it in the "melody zone" (with some nice little "wrong notes" to start trying out, as the fingers get more comfortable there.) It always helps with keeping up enthusiasm when one enjoys one's own noises. I'll go find a nice hippy song it's possible to play (more-or-less) on just one string (with drones at times), just by seeking it out, using your basic technique. Anyone using it can just figure out how themselves. That's the great virtue of this way of doing things. The "right way" is your own way.

*Axe - The Child Dreams* (from a 60's record of which apparently only six pressings were ever made) kzbin.info/www/bejne/opbQp51vpthjhJo Trick is to follow the vocal melody, though, otherwise you might fall asleep and get arrested by the DEA for appearing to be under the influence of the Moon.

Great video btw. Don't sweat the crypto if you can live without your initial investment for the time being. It'll go back up eventually. I've been on this train for about 5 years. Big gains, big losses, than even bigger gains, etc. That's been the pattern I've seen anyways. BTFD, buy that freaking dip!
