At one point during my 'search' for a career, I thought I would apprentice with a neon sign maker. I found a shop, made arrangements for partial support with a government retraining program and then all that was needed was to have the shop owner sign the paperwork. When he found out that he would have to pay me minimum wage he balked because in his words: "Why should I have to pay you when it's my time, my glass, and my gas?" And that was the end of my nascent glass blowing career but I never forgot that phrase, "...my time, my glass, and my gas."

Nacho TV neons are garbage and bad for health and the environment they should have never been invented or used
@NiggaTigga946 жыл бұрын
Nacho TV I agree Nacho!

The amount of misinformation one individual can spout in a single comment astounds me. Well, firstly, how are they garbage or bad for health? Neon is a inert, _noble_ gas, it is chemically irreactive as it has a stable amount of chemical potential energy, thus, it doesn't have any effect on the health of your body or in the environment. If you're referring to the glass tubing's recycleablity, be it known that it saves more than 300~ kg of CO² being released into the atmosphere, and it isa great industry, as the material can be transformed into a variety of products. To your second claim, if they never had been invented, important chemical and physical knowledge would never have been discovered, plasma displays would also be impossible, and a multitude of things wuld simply not exist, reducing the overall quality of life of people.

Do you have a favorite tube sizes/ diameter to work with? and clear or colorized? I think being a layman to this art, those were silly questions. now that I've gained a little more understanding of the topic, I would be more curious what gasses you like the most, and what effect is one of your favorites, discharge / low pressure setups, etc.

Neon signs and lights are so cool and can really brighten the atmosphere of a place but they have become so expensive that people are forced to switch to LED or not buy them at all. I think if the price for them went down, they will start reappearing in streets and businesses.
@pascalecnto683 жыл бұрын
I doubt that will ever change. Custom neon lights are work intensive and take hours - there is no getting around that. LED is quick and easy - it's just circuit boards - hence the much cheaper cost. Neon certainly gives a MUCH better result than any LED sign i've ever seen
@cynwashere3 жыл бұрын
@@pascalecnto68 ive seen a lot of companies do neon signs of these flexible led strips that you can bend however you want which takes less time,effort and cheaper materials but are still $500 so I take back what I said because it’s expensive either way
@pascalecnto683 жыл бұрын
@@cynwashere that's interesting. What about the result? Is it comparable to a neon glow, or does it still has the harshness of led light?

Q. Chen true. But the technique they use and the amount of work and skill that goes into this makes it worthy of that price tag. :) it’s definitely an investment but these lights can last a really really long time and at this point, are pretty unique to have since most places have moved on to less expensive options. But I feel ya, I’d rather buy a car than a fancy neon chandelier as well ;)

Did anyone tell this guy neon is dangerous inefficient and bad for the environment, it contains mercury. Does he knows that LEDs are a lot easier to work with and less risk of injury and environmental impact, is this guy still living in the 60s?
@graywolf1826 жыл бұрын
Neon lamps do not contain mercury, they contain neon. The mercury ones are usually called fluorescent lamps. And you miss the point completely, this is not about efficiency or safety, it's about making beautiful things.
