Unfortunately the big factor to success here is going to be cost. I love beyond meat's products, but its expensive enough at the moment where it will dissuade the many consumers who would want to try it. I think also cost is the key to convincing people who are less willing to try plant based meat products. Anyway, I'm glad they are doing this work.

mrsmiter I hear ya. I’m sure the price will continue to get lower, at scale. And in regards to convincing meat eaters, that’s the entire discussion. A lot of Internet comments trash vegan food that tries to taste like ‘meat’ yet their target isn’t necessarily just vegans, it’s a texture that wins over the meat eater who’s just trying to consume a little less animal

My point is that if we can stop having to harvest this many animals (Which take up an absurd amount of materials and produce way too many waste products), then the world would be a better place. Just search up how many liters of water a cow needs per DAY. Next search up how many cows are being cultivated right now. All that water is being used for animals, when it could be directed to solve other issues.

It tastes a little more like a tartar steak than a cooked beef patty to me but it's definitely delicious. Had one just this afternoon. The thing is that you just shouldnt go in expecting actual meat but rather to enjoy the product on its own terms. I really like the taste. It does lack a little depth of flavour though (just a little) which I solve with some drops of Maggi aroma usually (basically liquid SMG). Then it hits that perfect umami spot hnggg

Here's the thing. They want us to change from meat to vegan meat. It might taste the same at first. Like no différences. But as the demand and popularity rises, and that's assuming that it ever does... If it rises, the less people eat meat, the more the vegan meat companies can get away with. They could overtime change the taste to better suit their profits.

Grow too much food so when the food truck is empty, it takes back the extra food with blemishes for fertilzer on indoor crops where there's no need for pestcde as there no bugs indoors, you can grow any crop with with above or below ground (mirrored clay wall) vertical farms, magnifying glass panels at ground level, solar 24/7/365 growing seasons, indoor fresh water fish farms, indoor whaling, grow grass and put cows and chickens on it all year round (won't even stink up a metropolitan city in a high rise) plant dirt and grass and cows where torn down factories left concrete waste slabs) in a building grass can be grown in many floor to ceiling returnable plats on a conveyer, that's takes it up to the dairy floors for food where the cows eat it at 3' above the floor, the floor has a squeegee system and the cows are herded from one half of the floor to the other for cleaning: an automated squeege cleans the floor and empties it into a special for drain: the cow manure goes back down in a pipe for fertilizer : ) the floor has a floor washer, like a car wash, but with clean spayed water on the floor and a squeegee system : ) So good Salt water can be separated with oxygen being released like a rain forest to the outside air while the electricity generated disinfects waste water as it makes energy (NASA does this to make cabin oxygen while it releases everything else to space) Everyone uses a small steam distiller to disinfect and remove salt at the sink for drinking and cooking, everyone gets soft water to their house from the ocean, (already has natural salt in it) drag pipelines to every continent, more jobs, and divert river system maybe to deserts to take sea water rise from melting ice caps and maybe restock what used to be an ocean, natural sand filter at least, just don't put sharks in there and you can surf : ) NASA uses electrolysis to make cabin oxygen from water and they release the hydrogen gas to outer space, you could use the h as clean energy and release the oxygen to the planet as a rain forest, drag ocean soft water to municipalities, they use a small steam distiller at the sink for drinking water, everyone's off toilet to tap, and you use electrolysis to disinfect the waste water and make energy. You split the ocean stream for indoor fresh water and salt water fish farming. You build or convert 40 story buildings for indoor farming. Every acre under roof is an 80-120 acre farm, but instead of 12 hours of light, there's solar glass panels and you have 24 hours of light, 12 months of growing instead of 6, so maybe an 80 acre indoors is like 320. You grow too much food so the empty good truck picks up the blemished felt and vegetables for fertilizer. You can have a cow floor, a dairy farm and a chicken floor in what was an office building. One person drives an hour with gas and clogs tollways to drive to a city where someone else has to drive an hour to his town to work. Now they both work from home, they can get paid more and write off an office in their home, empty office building can be converted to indoor farms, and the sprinkler system can be used for irrigation. You can grow every crop in the world, everywhere, indoor, with every climate and 24/7/365 agriculture, and not even smell farm animals in a building For what it costs to build housing here and grow food on welfare, we can pay people who want to go to another country and build indoor farms and drag ocean lines and build clean energy waste water stations. Who wants to get paid to go to south America and maybe even live there? Whether you were from there, want to get paid to go on a humanitarian effort, or maybe move there : ) With today's technology and the skilled people who came here to learn skills, maybe they would love to develop their home turns and make it great, with more than enough food and water and electricity for everyone, everywhere People work for each other for paper and out of an overflow they trade. Everywhere will be a good home for everyone who lives there Food in cold climates can be grown underground in clay dug out cylinders with mirrored walls, solar night lights and heaters and glass solar roofs

The value just isn't there compared to other well established products like imitation crab and shumai.

@Shivam Joshi I have nothing against people that do not eat meat. The problem I have is against people that want to restrict my ability to eat meat. The people that lie about the environmental damage that meat agriculture perpetrates on the planet, the lies about the link between meat and cancer when we all know that sugar is the culprit, the lies about saturated fat, the lies about carbs being good for us, the lies about grains being healthy and the lies about fibre as if we really couldn't live with out it. That is what I complain about; I couldn't care any less if you eat wood, I only care that you think your diet is better than mine when you have no idea what you are saying is true and then try to restrict what I eat.

If you think it's expensive, consider the costs associated with the long-term consumption of beef both to personal health and to the community. Beef is only cheap because the people who raise cows and process meat pass a lot of the costs to everyone. Corn, the major feed of cows in America, is highly subsidized by the American tax payer, the runoff from livestock (feces and wastewater) gets dumped into the environment, the constant ecoli outbreaks that result in billions of dollars a year in medical costs and death, etc... All theses costs don't get added to the cost of beef when you buy at the store. But we all have to pay it while the people who profit don't care.
@Victor-tl4dk

@@mistax2k Well perhaps the US needs to stop practicing socialism for the rich instead of questioning Malaan's financial decisions. If meat wasn't subsidized a Big Mac would cost twice as much! I imagine that then beyond meat would be doing much, much better. Especially if *it* received subsidies!

I recently bought an 8-pack of Beyond Burgers at Costco for a bit over $14 with really high hopes it’d be just like a real hamburger. For me, it looks more like hamburger than tastes like hamburger. It’s a little rubbery with distinct rubber bits like chopped up gummy bears and a bit of flavoring that reminds me of liquid smoke (the bottled stuff that supposed to give a grilled flavor to meat cooked indoors). I ate mine as just a patty with mustard and ketchup. I think a toasted bun and all the fixings would make it a much better experience. Btw, the first one gave me the worst heartburn I’ve had in at least a decade.

If you want a healthy plant based burger then I'd eat the morning star burgers. The fat asian guy doesn't even look like a vegan so I don't know why you're trying to point speculation into just one person. He just looked like he was willing to try it out and to get fat off of these alone, you'd have to eat them every single day or more than 4 times a week. Then again who am I to say I'm right because we don't even know shit about the guy except for the fact that he's a managing editor.

Well, it should cost 93% less than beef then. That would certainly be a better burger. The price of this processed patty is crazy. I would say it needs to be avoided due to costs... Comparatively, American cheese is the best melting sandwich cheese and goes perfectly on a burger. We know it is not real cheese, and that's why the price is lower... This should only be a craving or occasion food, definitely not something to eat more than a couple times a year, because it's very processed and expensive for what it is... Thanks for the making and share of this great video. Thanks to everyone at Beyond Meat as well for taking such time and care to craft an amazing product! I was very pleased to buy the patties myself at my local Target for under $6, which is a steal at less than $3 per 1/4 patty in comparison to dining in at a restaurant and paying $7-$12 for one cooked burger. My kids that aren't vegan love these so much and often ask to make them again and again. Whether or not these products will ever replace meat isn't my concern as I personally don't mind what anyone consumes. I just hope that over time with more gained popularity from the past few years revolving around the vegan diet and these Beyond Meat burgers, that others will be inspired to bring more amazing similar products to the public to add an even bigger variety.
