I'm banning myself from purchasing any more minis for the foreseeable future: Between the HH boxset, some added HH tank goodness on the side, and a _lot_ of unpainted Cyberpunk Red, Wasteland Warfare and Battletech, I've got more than enough to keep me going for the next year. For a hobby that can be really beneficial for mental health, owning a pile of unfinished projects can undo a ton of those benefits with the shame and guilt it can induce - the self-recrimination is real. I think, ultimately, as hobbyists we need to be far more honest with what we _can_ manage, versus what we _want_ to manage, and in turn admit that those flashes of excitement and "Ooo, so pretty!" that cause us to buy the next box of miniatures are just that: Flashes. The real work is holding onto them and turning them into the end results we imagined for ourselves. Thinking about it, there should be some basic rules to these situations: 1) Honestly analyse whether or not you still intend to work on the project you brought minis for. 2) Be honest with your time constraints: Can you get onto of the pile of shame, or do other responsibilites limit your hobby time? 3) Set aside those you still want to work on. Ebay those you no longer have the passion or the time to work on. 4) Implement a 2 for 1 system of finishing off miniatures in the pile of shame to purchasing anything new: Want a new boxset of terminators? Better finish off ten tyranids then! Want a Landraider Proteus? Well, your 40K troop transports need painting up first. 5) Little by little - Don't set yourself the impossible task of getting it all done in a blink of the eye. A few minis at a time is better than none.

Last count up I had was over 1000 models which I counted during lockdown. I have painted a lot since then, but also scratch built a lot, so the number has probably gone up 😬

680-ish models still to paint. Was getting so out of hand with the number of armies I wanted/planning, made a list of allowed models that I can buy, and each time I break from that list I owe a friend £100 lol. Its helped to calm my spending urges. At the moment, trying to paint at least 1 a day, and to be fair the collecting and painting was designed as a relaxation thing, so I have plenty to keep me going.

Wow, this is still my first year into Warhammer collecting and this is kind of a new thought for me. Let me see in space marines I have 14 total, one still plasti-grey, a part painted dreadnought, and 5 terminators, 5 pyreblasters and the Captain and librarian basically painted, I have a battle sister's combat patrol minus the rhino totally in need of a full paint job, however I think I'm sending all my homies to the garden of Nurgle because I don't really like the Imperium, I have a Tyranid army that is maybe 98% painted... But they look terrible... And my current primary focus is my WAAAAAAAAGH. I have a combat patrol and box of grots maybe 40-60% painted but I spent orktober building custom Ork tek without painting anything I built, then on the 1st of NOBVEMBER I lit my work table on fit and burnt three fingers, putting me out of commission currently... I wonder how my pile of shamortunity will be next year...

I have 156 unpainted models from various systems (mainly none GW) and 223 painted overall. I try and keep my pile lower than the painted and sell off those I’ve fallen out of love with.

My pile of shame is 1 contemptor dread on sprue and a half built ork kill rig, and this keeps me awake at night 😅 I don’t know how you crazy bunch do it!

After seeing a lot of pile of shame videos during lockdown I also started to track my pile. Currently I have 234 minis to paint. It looked much better at the end of 2021, but I got into Star Wars Imperial Assault. When I've found out it was out of production I bought all the expansions I wanted to have, which added a lot of models to my pile. However the bright side since it's out of production there will be no new stuff for it. I'm also kinda lucky with 40k. Currently I have guard and necron armies (and a few other models), and I was intrested to start a sister and thousand sons army, but what GW did with 9th edition pushed me away. So I won't start those armies, which makes much more easier not to buy stuff.

Well let’s just talk GW stuff, the count is roughly 847 total. Out of that rough 330 are in work which means built, primed+basecoat, needs details painted, or needs transfers. 517 are new on sprue. I feel good because 2022 count was 1100. I think I can finish about 200 before the end of the year. Next year I plan to finish my Death Guard force, most of it is ready for details and only 3 plague burst crawlers remain in boxes, that should give me 3 playable armies. My three are Ultramarines, Necrons, Deathguard.

I suggest using a colour primer. This takes out a step at least. Also ‘slap chop’ - see Honest Wargamer’s video on this paint technique…. Can do a box a week if you do this. Ever thought of a cheap airbrush?

I have about 2000 minis to paint...the lockdown has been a buying spree....but i try to paint 1 mini per day, so I should be done in about 6 years....😂😂

I'm just taking the approach check in after painting 40 hours and keep going till then, then check in where you are and add another 40 hours.

I’m really Not going to comment about my pile of shame. All I know is a spammed the crap out of the good value issues of hachettes conquest, mortal realms and imperium. This means I have over 240 chain rasps and 72 stormcast. Along with 12 rhinos, 80 poxwalkers 3 redemptors 4 repulsors. 3 of each of the deathguard vehicles on top of everything else you got in these collections. Oh and also the full deathwing company with extras ( so that’s 176 terminators). Your pile of shame looks tiny next to my Mountain

Don’t buy anything until you haven’t painted everything is what everyone always say(I only have a none painted kill team stater set and abaddon and some termgants in my pile of shame)but I want me some of those angry angry world eaters.

I disagree with that. I see nothing wrong having 50ish non painted minitures. I would call that a pile of opportunity, it's not too big and you have options what you want to paint next. At least if I can move my unpainted models under 50 I would be satisfied with that.
