How BIG Your Brake Rotors Needs to Be for XC

If you cook your brakes, this question will come to your mind at some point - how big your brake rotors should or could be for XC purposes?

There is one thing which I forgot to mention as another solution. Brake less! :D On the flipside, this is partially true - by learning how to ride efficiently into the corners, we can learn to brake less. Personally, I like to skid the rear tire from early days drawing donuts, not gonna change that, haha!

I recently bought a new bike (ones old, is another man new:) ) and first thing I needed to replace were brakes, it had some m506 lever and m447 calipers, which for Canyon Neuron are clearly under performing, although it had 180mm front and rear.. So for this bike I went for Magura trail Sport brakes 4piston front and 2piston rear. Haven't received them yet, so cannot comment on performance. But it will be my first time installing and bleeding brakes, whis is intimidating😂

Congratz on the purchase! As for the bleeding - there will be few drops of brake fluid here and there, but you will get through it, ha!

I am riding a scott spark 2015 year model with 180 mm front and 160 mm rear. Even I am 98kg it’s enough braking power for me for everyday riding and XCM competition. Now I am assembling new bike based on Scott spark rv team issue frame 2022 and would like to try 4 piston XTR with 180 mm rotors both front and rear. Can you please advise the model number of brake adaptor to replace the 160mm mount? 😉

Hey man, thanks for sharing! By no intention I mean the brakes are not gonna work - just at some point braking power will degraded, depending on the intensity of usage and boiling point during descents:) 4pots is a game changer for trails usage - you definitely are not gonna regret this choice!
