How BLUEY Was COPIED for a CONSERVATIVE RIPOFF (Chip Chilla)

Bluey represents to me the true essence of what makes children's cartoons so impactful. How to convey ideas and messages that share crucial knowledge for it's audience. Bluey, a popular cartoon from Australia, made it's mark on the world through 3 seasons of pure animated brilliance. Popularity that was soon capitalized on by right-wing organizations which care far less to those children consumers. In this video we go over the show Bluey, how I believe it succeeds in creating a kids show. Then we'll go over the right wing show made by BentKey (an offshoot from the daily wire) which tries to copy bluey inefficiently. I hope you enjoy, thank you for watching :3

@@QuillStroke It's not that, it's that they purposefully made it as a gender differentiation design since "pink = girl and blue = boy" in chip chilla. in bluey you never see blatant gendering of boy and girl, some people even confuse bluey for a boy or bingo for a boy and that's good design since you aren't visually told they're girls because they have eyelashes and skirts or they're boys because they wear jackets/shirts Says a lot for a channel that promised no politics in their content whatsoever

That rabbit character was so unintentionally creepy lmao. Why tf would someone think it's a good idea to teach kids that it's perfectly fine to let an old dude you don't know guide you to his house saying he has something to show you? It's also very frustrating that the parents are written as so incompetent, I feel like that's not sending a very good message to kids. I also think the kids in Bluey being so wholesome and likeable makes for better role models for kids than having them be snot nosed brats like in Chip Chilla, even if that is more realistic.
@junkers3824
@junkers3824 7 ай бұрын
It doesn't help that the rabbit was voiced by Matt Walsh, one of the most vile and bigoted commentators for the Daily Wire, who has said several years back on a podcast that girls are technically most fertile at 16 (despite research saying otherwise, go figure.) And has said he violates his kids consent and privacy all the time after getting angry at a children's book that teaches kids on consent.

The incompetent parenting thing is especially baffling giving how I've heard conservatives complain about the fathers in sitcoms being "bumbling idiots". In their minds that portrayal demeans men and makes women out to be more effective people. What I'd expect from conservative creators is a stern but "fair" father who's always right and who the children come to for advice and obediently follow. I bet what happened is the Daily Wire numbskulls saw the tiniest bit of Bluey and were like "Look at these fun, playful parents. Haha, they're so dumb!" and thought that's what the kids are into.
@rafeverao4105
@rafeverao4105 7 ай бұрын
Something you pointed out a couple times is how the kids in Bluey are "unrealistic", and the ones in Chip Chilla are moreso because they're more... chaotic, I suppose. I think that is mainly a product of childrearing practices over the past few generations - the values which the producers of Chip Chilla want to promote are the very ones which lead to people acting selfishly and unempathetically, leading to kids who are equally unempathetic and selfish. Bluey is idyllic, but I would say it is still realistic: treat kids right, raise them to be caring and considerate, and they will be sweet and considerate. I assume this is unintentional in both shows, just a product of the creators' views of children, and their care (or lack thereof) towards making sure kids care about other people.
@yoot3008
@yoot3008 7 ай бұрын
yeah i like i relate specifically to the way the kids in bluey act, i feel chip chilla instead shows general selfishness is “normal” and not a problem that should be corrected. obviously i dont think it’s on purpose but that shouldn’t be the message you’re sending to kids anyway☠️

Another problem with todays society is pride, people can't just humble themselves and their kids see it and act that way too.. as well as involvement in social media at an early age leading children to be parented by possibly bad influences online.. and the fact that a lot of parents seem to shut their children out rather than allowing kids to be curious and allowing them to ask questions, adults forget that kids are innocent and that it's what other people and their parents say to them that makes them out to be the way they are, if you tell a kid to stop asking why then chances are they will go to outside sources (that are typically not good like porn) and learn through more.. inappropriate ways...

To quote the Bluey episode 'Chest,' "Work on their heads later, for now, just hearts." This quote truly encapsulates what makes Bluey special, to me personally. For context, that specific episode is about Bandit trying to teach the kids Chess, because he believes that helping them grow up to be smart, will help them in the long-run - whenever he is no longer able to be there, for them. Throughout the episode, the kids break the rules but show moments of sharing, empathy, and creativity -- all of which, Chili praises them for. The point of Bluey isn't to teach kids math, or language, or what-have-you; it is about teaching kids to consider their surroundings & others, under the scope of empathy and consideration; all the while, it encourages adults to also understand children's perspectives and personal nuisances and just why they may do something, that our more 'logical' adult brains would not consider. And as someone who grew up in an American, conservative community, conservatives consider empathy for those we don't immediately understand to be 'woke,' despite the cartoon being otherwise more 'apolitical,' compared to the slop BentKey has been pushing out.

Ngl the camping episode reminds me exactly of what happened a couple times in my childhood. My dad, brothers and I went out camping every summer on a camping where the majority of people were German. We're Dutch, and as a child I never even really realized they spoke a different language. Our languages are somewhat similar and through gestures and whatever it was super easy to build friendships and to keep each other busy despite the language barrier. My dad would often take them out as well to go do fun activities, so did their parents. Sadly the days ended due to the camping turning into more of a holiday resort, but I really wish I could relive one of those holidays

I'm 56. It has to do with brain plasticity, the younger you are when you start learning a thing, the easier it is to learn it, and, much like linguistics, dealing with the arcane langauge of computer programs at a young age helps to retain mental acquity and plasticity. We can regain some of that, belying other helath problems, by forcing ourselves to think in different ways, such as learning new languages as an adult. There is ongoing research into regaining brain plasticity, along with other research into ageing and how to slow it down, or possibly even reverse it.

I think the most conservative value shown in ChipChilla only comes in comparison to Bluey. The children in Bluey are given a lot more agency to learn lessons and learn the meaning behind those lessons, while Chipchilla's child characters are just spoonfed lessons by their parents, or have the situations where they learn lessons be so overly controlled by their parents. In his own video, Saberspark compared 2 episodes. One is a Bluey episode where Bluey doesn't pick up her toys, so her father starts rewarding her to incentivise her to clean up. He eventually gets overwhelmed and burnt out trying to keep up with rewarding her, and while he's distressed, Bluey notices and decides to clean up without the expectation of a reward. This offers a dual lesson. Bluey and the children watching learn that your actions, even something as simple as cleaning up your toys, can have a positive or negative impact on other people's emotional well-being, and that you shouldn't do things just for a reward, but to be kind to others. Bluey's father and the parents learn that children have more emotional intelligence and more compassion than people usually give them credit for, and a rewards and/or punishments system of teaching and incentivising them isn't the perfect course. In the chipchilla episode, Chip's parents want him to clean up and they create this game where he's the Roman emperor and everyone else pretends to be barbarians, and they end up destroying his toys. This somehow makes him learn a lesson instead of upsetting him. This is conservative simply because conservatives often use a rewards and punishments style of parenting and blame any bad behavior a child has on "not spanking them hard enough." The idea that children are more capable and complex than we give them credit for is a more "liberal" stance. Bluey challenges our assumptions of what children are capable of. Chipchilla reassures parents that they were always right

This was really well said and a great observation. Childrens media it's their expertise in the first place to be fair. They're trying to push their product on parents who's trust they've earned by agreeing with them about political issues and make a quick buck off of them, nothing more. This happens with a lot of Christian media, (save for veggie tales, a delight) Growing up I was afraid of a Christian movie once because Jesus was acting mean in it. To my fire and brimstone dad, the problem wasn't a poorly made movie that makes kids afraid of Jesus, the problem was I must not be a good child if I was afraid of getting on Jesus's bad side. The movie wasn't for kids, it was for disconnected parents

I think this just goes to show that the existence of Bluey is why I'll never be able to make a show made for kindergarteners. I simply cannot outdo Bluey. In fact, the one kids show I'm working on at the moment is more aimed towards middle schoolers, and the main character is a superhero who has a crush on a certain gentleman thief, so neither of them exactly have the best moral high ground. Although, now that I think about it, I could create a show that involves [CENSORED TO NOT SPOIL THE CONCEPT].

I can understand the issue with Disney, since I’ve even talked to members of the LGBTQ+ community who aren’t conservative at all agree that at this point, Disney’s just pandering in the cheapest ways possible. The representation doesn’t feel natural, it feels like they’re trying to grab any attention they can muster. I think The Owl House was able to break past that kind of corporate pandering, and their inclusion of LGBTQ+ felt much more natural imo, but there’s not a lot of other Disney properties with ‘representation’ that manages the same thing. But to call everything in our worldly society that’s even a little bit controversial ‘political’ drives me crazy.

Does anyone remember in 2015 when that one Chinese goat milk company made a bunch of characters that ripped off The Amazing World of Gumball, which eventually led to the creators of Gumball making an episode of the show that ends with the family of Chinese counterparts getting killed in an explosion? I know Bluey is a wholesome family show and all and doesn’t contain violence, but I wish the show could somehow incorporate those ugly, bratty chinchillas into an episode and give them a worthy punishment for being a pathetic ripoff. I’m not a fan of Bluey, but I am deeply fond of the show’s brilliant voice acting, beautiful 2D animation, smart writing, and the realistic characterizations and chemistries of its bright cast of characters. I know more adults than I do children that love the show, and the college I go to even started a Bluey club that has 20+ members. The same group of people that called Sesame Street propaganda for encouraging children to practice healthy habits during the pandemic and treat everyone with kindness should not be allowed to make content for children, let alone be in contact with them. People like Ben Shapeehole and Matt Walsh are dangerous, ironic, and arrogant people who have their heads lodged up their asses.

This show has my heart, and I’m a teenager trying to make its way into adulthood and it has been a struggle honestly. Being able to relate to Bluey also helped me develop a much more closer relationship with my younger sister, who relates to bingo, and it makes me tear up thinking about all I missed as a young kid and how I could’ve made things better if I had seen this earlier. One of the one things I love about Bluey is the fact that it so often includes space. the reason that is, is because in the many shows I watched in my life space was never really included. and I love space more than anyone could imagine. it's an absolute joy to even hear a children's show mention black holes and the solar system only to put it in such a stunning light that follows with the story at hand. it makes me really believe in my hopes to one day work in an astrological field of science despite many family members telling me it was a poor choice. I appreciate Bluey so much, and I honestly can't thank it enough for being one of the few things out there that children can watch that will hopefully impact them and make them good people, unlike how I've seen youtubers who make Roblox videos and other poor content for children so harmfully impact a child's morals and positive development (witnessed firsthand with my younger brother).

Most of the previous videos I watched covering the topic were done from the perspectives of people who were already Bluey fans, so I do appreciate seeing the topic covered from a different perspective and also you talking about Bluey and what makes it special for those who aren't familiar with the TV series! (1:33) I don't know why, but whenever I have a favourite character in a fiction media IP aimed at children, that character is usually one who's male and is an adult. As you likely had guessed, Bandit is my favourite Bluey character. (4:09) One of the things I like about Bluey is the art style. Sure, it's not my top favourite art style, but I like it because it's distinctively Bluey. That includes both the colour palettes and how the characters seem to be designed as cuboids. It's different from any US animated TV series I can think of that are aimed at the 5=9 year demographic, that's for sure (4:50) As someone who grew up in Singapore in the 2000s, watching lots of animated TV series that were created in the US gave me the impression that it was where most people in the world lived and it was the most popular and most ideal country. As a child, I wouldn't have known that it was a result of TV networks prioritising content from the US over those from other countries.

My only issue with the "representation" that Disney and other companies are putting into their media, is that more often than not it feels like they are just checking a box by adding a LGBT or other character, which makes them feel more like just a token or just pointless and one note. Like they are so focused on having to add "representation" instead of making compelling likeable characters. best way i can explain it for example is they are more interested in having a gay character instead of having an actual character that happens to be gay.

The criticism directed at children's entertainment is something that is often directed at furry entertainment on this site. I know that furry entertainment is something that is just opening a box or a skit based around a fart / gross joke. There's some videos on this site that are based on queries that people are searching for but really the videos are filled with the content creator's opinion and it's very light on research or learning. It disappoints anyone trying to learn something but it convinced that person to click the video. It seems pretty sneaky all the time and that's why I avoided furry entertainment. There are channels I find are exceptions to this. Clappedseal puts some actual learned information on scripted videos. I knew that before watching this video. I knew Clappedseal would tell me what's going on with the difference between the children's entertainment Bluey vs Chip Chilla. Being around furries I had gotten a very clear message that furries are really into the show because of Bluey's dad. What was really mindblowing is that Bluey was revealed to be actually awesome. I'm interested in checking it out and it's not by the reason of one of the characters but that the show is probably something I can enjoy for the writing. I do like content on this site whether it's someone winging their video on camera without script or it's someone who makes a crafted script in advance. I've gained extra appreciation for how well Clappedseal does scripted videos. It's not easier or more difficult but it's just different style that different content creators tend to do better at. I believe some furry entertainment can be awesome when it's from a clip of working without a script. It only takes an idea and a few notes in advance and is really possible. But Clappedseal makes a case for how awesome scripted videos can be in furry entertainment. Thank you and I hope you channel impresses others as much as it did for me.

Like, Chip Chilla is just a rip-off of Bluey, but conservative... another offering from The Daily Wire, Run Hide Fight, can quite literally just be described as Die Hard but with school shootings.

I have an entire list in my note just for my favourite Bluey episodes my top ones being Fairies, TV shop, and Curry Quest, they hit pretty close to home in the fact that Bandit apologized to bingo in Fairies, having my own dad leave for a period of time not liking it similar to Curry Quest, and in TV Shop running back and forth between the strange tvs at the font of a Walmart or Sobeys. Bluey is a show I love to have playing in the background when I draw or just fun to watch with Chip chilla I don’t get that, it gravely lacks any and all connection to an audience, as a kid if Bluey were to air on treehouse I would be excitedly running to mom to tell her sure the messages would go directly over my head but as a I got older I feel like Bluey would stand on the same ground of awesome childhood shows like Toopie and Binno. Chip Chilla would be the show I would begrudgingly sit through not paying attention so I don’t miss a different show that aired after it.

Bluey has a heart and soul - Chip Chilla has neither. Also, Matt Walsh as a creepy rabbit makes me feel a bit sick. Also, what a narcissist he is bragging about his sub-par performance like that!

Not related to the video at all but it's been awhile since I've watched your content, last time I watched a video you were still at 9k! So amazing to see the growth. Amazing video !!

Can I just say: as an animator I deeply appreciate that when you said something about "The animation" you ACTUALLY talked about the animation. And then went on to talk about the color palettes, etc as a separate thing. I listen to a lot of video reviewers on KZbin and they ALWAYS lump them together and it drives me batty. So congrats to you! I know it's a minor thing but I deeply appreciate it! The rest of your video is deeply thought out as well and I am very much enjoying it!

New subscriber here and first of all, thank you for sharing your thoughts on Bluey and the worst ripoff that we don’t talk about lol. Secondly your character is so cute and charming that it just makes me want to hug him! And three Bluey is also my favorite show and Flat Packs was the one that made me think and go: “Huh, well look at that! This show is more than a boring bland kids show! It’s its own breed!” Now I enjoy watching episodes of Bluey even if I’ve watched the same episodes more than once! It’s amazing how this show cannot only teach kids but also adults with easy to follow lessons that also has hidden meanings behind them!

Hi 21 yr old here and I’ll say it’s not just nostalgia. Bluey is a series I continuously rewatch because of everything from the visuals and characters to the messaging. I was verbally abused as a child, couldn’t talk to my parents and ran away once I turned 18 when they essentially disowned me. My sibs recommended I watch this show and at first I was skeptical, like it couldn’t be as good as friendship is magic. But I was wrong. No it’s not as adventurous or larger than life but it is an amazing show and really helped to heal my inner child. Growing up with bad parents kinda warps your sense of how adults should be and what’s normal. But Bluey has helped show good examples of parent child relationships and family struggles. I don’t think anyone should be ashamed for watching this show and it really lives up to the hype.

The people who wrote this show probably fall into the crowd who assume Bluey is a boy - that's not relevant but it's the vibes I get from their color direction lmao
