The explanation for the One O'Clock gun is incorrect or incomplete because the ships in the harbours couldnt hear it. The Nelson Monument on Calton Hill has a black ball atop it which rises up a pole just before the gun goes off; when the gun fires the ball drops and ships in the harbours having their spyglasses trained on it know the exact time is 1pm.

I grew up in Leith Edinburgh, back in 81 I was dating a nurse who worked in the Royale infirmary. Her flat was at Greyfriers and her bedroom window is one that was in the video. I never once stayed overnight Not even on a promise.

Great to see the extraordinary history of our great city. But as for the parliament building, a catastrophic waste of money, foisted upon us by Donald Dewer for his “greater glory”. He could not have possibly been unaware of the huge over cost the building would incur. Holyrood Palace would have done the job, or a modest version of that Spaniard’s design.

stubborn Brits, fighting over a square brick -it's no wonder they'd rather fight indians in the Appalachians. but really, as the son of a highly successful 20th century American pipeline engineer, my dad taught me to respect the magnitude and precision of Scottish masonry and engineering

Edinburgh is NOT in any britain. It is in what the Romans named Caledonia. England and Wales are britain. Scots call the whole Island Caledonia and Scotland is called Alba.

This is nonsense. Great Britain is an island. England, Scotland and Wales are all situated on that island. Take a look at your passport. It says: "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland".
@ianmacewan9416 Жыл бұрын
@@ABC_DEF "great britain" is what English elite call this island. What they put on peoples passports is sod all to do with it. I hereby declare this island to be calle GREAT CALEDONIA. This island was origionaly called Albion. What is now Scotland was called Alba and still is by Scots. Just because a foreign country decides something is nothing to do with what Scots call ourselves.
