The Sheffield Street cops (especially PC 700) are quite good community cops. They can really interact in a non-threatening, friendly way and manages to get answers to all their enquiries without raising the hackles of the people they're chatting to. How about cloning a few thousand of them and send them to the US please? Sadly, I can guarantee that an interaction between one of our cops and these poor homeless chaps would have been entirely, and probably quite violently, different.

What's the point in fining someone 40 quid if the only way they have of making money is prostitution, surely this then compounds the problem?
@Renvaar19894 жыл бұрын

Precisely. They go back on the street to earn the money to pay the fine, on top of needing the money for their fix. It compounds the problem, as you say. Generally, police forces have moved away from fining street prostitutes, as it is not only ineffective, it is counter-productive....

I really do not understand why prostitution is illegal I can take a lady out, pay for a meal , pay for drinks, pay for a taxi home for her, and spend a few hours in a hotel, and I have not broken any law. BUT, if I give a lady some money for the same thing, then that is illegal. How does that make any sense. The girl was fined £40, and she was back on the street next day, to make enough money to pay the fine. This is NOT the way to handle the problem of red light areas.
@Flibbles Жыл бұрын
Prostitution is not illegal, standing by the road and negotiating a price for sex is illegal. Taking somebody out and buying meals etc. is not a negotiation for sex, although it is sometimes an understanding that sex is part of the deal. Most prostitutes advertise on the internet, customers go to the prostitutes home or they go to the customer's choice of location, this is perfectly legal.
@mryrius3 жыл бұрын
If you negotiate the price for one condom and then offer a free demo, that’s legal then according to the arrest law?

Can you actually be arrested for cursing in public in the UK?
@mqxogamesКүн бұрын
Not for cursing alone, but Section 5 Public Order Act defines "Harassment, Alarm or Distress" as to "use threatening or abusive words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour [...] Within the sight or hearing of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress nearby" In practice this means that if you yell an offensive vulgar phrase at someone, e.g. "Go f- yourself ya c-", and they are likely to be harassed by it then it's an offense. That means you can say it to your mates in the pub so long as you're not so loud the kid and his family on the other side of the restaurant can hear. And yes, if you yell something along those lines at an officer you'll likely be charged with it. Also important to note is that there's no jailtime for that offence - it's a fine of up to level 3 on the standard scale. In the case in the intro, he was "arrested" under Section 5, really what that means is he's being further charged with that offence on top of his original arrestible offence which I'd guess was related to the intoxication.

It's politicians who make the stupid laws. It's not the polices' fault for doing what they're told. Politicians are the ones who need to be spending more time on the streets, helping the people they supposedly represent.
