Yes! Not to mention they had a camera on them practically everyday and all that footage was posted on their KZbin channel, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok. We got to know their personalities and how damn hard they worked. It added to their appeal immensely.

For me what stood out to me the most are their humility and grounded artists. They are just nice human beings, and yes of course their talents and their genuine love for each other and towards ARMY. Its just so humbling watching them, i wish i have kids of my own to share my BTS experience with them. They’re group of people who can help changed people to be better human beings.🫰💜

Nice to see Rolling Stone discussing BTS in a way that is respectful and takes them seriously. As ARMYs we've seen western media mock and disrespect BTS and the fandom as they gained popularity. As we appealed to radio stations in 2016-17 and the songs grew in the western world, we were accused of being bots, children, hysterical teens. The media weren't interested in the fact that BTS members were instrumental in the writing of their songs etc, instead we heard bigoted insults about 'Manufactured dolls' and a whole lot of racist stereotypes about men, beauty standards etc. To see an interview this respectful and knowledgeable is truly refreshing. As someone who's been an ARMY since 2016 this still feels shocking to see and I feel so much appreciation for Rolling Stone and their informed coverage of BTS

BTS is a group most people do not realize have a massive and decade old artistic legacy. Along with their solos there are roughly 500+ tracks with easily above 10 genres. Fans include rock nerds, hiphop nerds, alternative music listeners, r&b, pop, ballad enthusiasts, etc. And especially those genres with deep history (say hiphop); hiphop heads that know bts in and out have recognized they really know and respect the history and even declare them as folks of the culture. Their experimental nature, really open doors for indie artists especially those in Korea. What does all this result? For many of us bts introduces kinds of music we never imagined existed and then teach us about those in that genre to be respected. Their legacy is beyond just the 7 of them; almost a sub culture for enthusiasts of all forms of art. All these words and yet i barely explained 5% of every nuance that adds into their legacy. Only those who experience it without prejudice will trully understand it. So if that many factors exist, then one could conclude that atleast one out of the many may attract an audience. There success is the epitome of just that.

I looked up BTS a few years ago just because I kept hearing about them but didn’t even know what they were or anything at all about Korea of KPop. I looked them up in the way I do a hundred topics in politics, history, pop culture, science etc. I watched a video and was like, okay, sure. Then I watched another video and another video and another video 😂 I was completely sucked in. I have never been a “fan” of anything before. I have never understood heavy interest in celebrities. I have never been interested in the musicians/performers on a personal level, just enjoying music I like and not feeling any loyalty or interest beyond that. I was not even at all a fan of boy bands back in my teen years. I can’t explain it but BTS just totally took me away even while I thought it was silly of me and not seeming on the surface like something I would like at all. I haven’t stopped consuming their content every single day since and am genuinely completely a loyal fan. ❤ They are so talented and charming and magnetic and interesting and they just bring a lot of fun. I really think it’s the same as how a lot of people feel about sports. I never cared about sports but now I follow BTS like they are my favorite NFL team. 😅

And for what it’s worth their English language songs that took off here are among my least favorite. It was Spring Day, Blood Sweat and Tears, and then B sides that really clinched my fan status. It’s taken me a lot more time to appreciate Dynamite and Butter in the context of why they made them and just loving to see them in all sorts of performances because I just love BTS and want to see whatever they offer.

I only got in to BTS a little over a year ago after sleeping on them for years and they completely blew me away. They're pure talent I've never seen any group that's as skilled or versatile as they are. They literally do it all, cover all genres, make their own music, and have the most meaningful powerful concepts and lyrics that've managed to help millions of people all over the world. Not to mention their humble genuine selves and their unmatched bond with each other and with Army. They've transcended the k-pop label a long time ago and even though they've been the biggest group in the world for years I still believe that their skills are very underrated unfortunately because of the "k-pop stereotypes". I feel really bad for anyone who judges them off of their 3 pop English songs that they released during the pandemic to cheer people up and that don't represent their music at all. They have no idea what they're missing out on.

@@user-vv7hc7kb5o None of the above actually 😁 The first time I checked them out was around 2018. I listened to mic drop and boy with love since I was a fan of both Steve Aoki and Halsey. I liked mic drop and didn't like boy with love. I unfortunately judged them, thought they were too poppy and never listened to them ever again. Fast forward to last year I sometimes watch reaction videos of my favorite artists and I'd often find BTS pop up so I wanted to understand the hype. I decided to give them a final chance so I started watching both songs and interviews. Their interview on Fallon and their carpool karaoke were some of the first videos I saw and their personalities and charms specially Jimin's made me want to learn more. Within a few days I was completely in love with everything about them and I regretted not having given them a chance earlier. It was exactly a couple of days before Jimin released Face and I had no idea they'd be releasing so much stuff during the military I'm trying to catch up on as much of their content as possible it's not easy 😂

Just a year ago, I decided to be more open about my music taste and decided to check out bts since im a big j cole fan. I was literally stunned about their whole discography and individual stories so I decided to check out other K-pop groups, but they just didn't feel as genuine in music as bts, they almost felt like pretty faces with talents but no determination for music. I don't think I'll like kpop any day but I geniunly appreciate and support bts as people and as artists

It was my understanding that BTS dressed in the style of the Beatles because they had just matched a Beatles record, and because they were performing in the Ed Sullivan Theater, where the Beatles made their American debut. It wasn't my impression that the intent was to make them more palatable to a western audience - they already had a huge American fandom. It was just a bit emphasizing that their massive popularity rivals that of The Beatles (and giving Colbert the chance to do his Ed Sullivan impression)

I first saw them on SNL and just was so curious because I hadn’t seen anything like them EVER - first of all, talented dancers, amazing and cool vocals, and so bright and gorgeous looking… I mean who could compare? I’ve watched them grow over the last 5+ yrs with their talent, their artistry and growing from boys to young men and I’m they are the most delightful refreshing thing in my life - no joke! They gave me smiles and laughter during the pandemic whenever all were a bit scared about what was our future and they are the friendliest and most caring of their fans I have ever seen in my life. It’s astounding to me. I think that maybe a big appeal besides the music to western fans because most western artists are not like that at all. It’s beautiful and genuine and you can see these guys real personalities and souls which they share fairly openly. The impact BTS has on the global market as korean artists is something we will never see again since now a lot of kpop artists have started to merge different culture just to target more audience, it sounds great at first but on a deeper note it takes away the value of kpop as a core. I think the members closeness and respect toward their culture as an all korean members group also has an impact on their over all image as kpop acts, the boys do release english music for international fans but they also maintain their originality by sticking to their mother tongue which I believe maximises my respect for them as artists and individual, it also shows the boys really are in it for their fans and passion not for chart passions. I hope their country people treat them better and understand their value rather than finding reasons to put them down, cause BTS have provided the global recognition to kpop and korean culture that it has today.

@@user-ww8hx2uo6t one of the great achievements of BTS is the way they've combined Korean and English lyrics so seamlessly to create a bilingual hybrid so that their songs can have international reach, not so much for the markets but to find a wider audience. Of course they're not the first Korean artists to create bilingual pop music, but they have elevated it to smother level. And it means they have been able to focus on their own culture while appealing to an international audience, something that ABBA could not do, as they basically had to use all English lyrics and global themes for their international releases. I mention ABBA because I'm old enough to remember just how huge they were (apart from in the US), in their day the biggest pop group globally since the Beatles (even my jazz-loving dad was impressed when he read that in the NZ Herald). ABBA never did crack the US market though, as that would have required a lot more touring than Agnetha was willing to do as a mother.

Why i love BTS. I'm american and have been Army since 2014. Its the lyrics. Plain and simple. Then the personalities. They are real and genuine in their love for each other which you feel it and see it and their love for us. Who does what they have done in this next chapter for us? What artist? None. We only hear from artists here in the US if they drop a album, then you don't here from them for 2 years. They are the real deal. No one will ever be like them. I understand people sometime will hate the fan base. Its only because the different cultures and lack of english and english slang and not understanding the meaning of what they are saying. Then because of the lack of understanding they go into attack mode. Of course then their is the obssessed Solo's and hater's that are possers. For anyone that is not in the fan base, it can seems we are a bunch of crazy people. But if they took the time to get to know us they would realize we are really educated. They just need to be open minded and respectful

I stanned Big Bang but after Seungri was arrested for the Burning Sun incident, I stopped listening to K-Pop. Several years later, I started listening to Fire and it was on repeat on my playlist but I really don't know who sang it. After I researched at youtube, I discovered who BTS is and I've been a proud ARMY ever since. I love how they are so authentic, effortlessly hilarious and great artists. Borahae!

The impact of Dynamite deserves to be highlighted again and again! BTS is a one of kind group, and everyone involved in their path to global success deserves high praise! Thanks for the mention of the BEATLES, and how the only thing they really have in common is they are a boy group, but everything else from their music to performance is unique and probably can't be recreated! Bang Shi Hyuk and his team made lighting strike in the same place 7 times, with these 7 amazing young men (writing, producing, rapping, dancing, charm!)

@@Teamo.bora. But the Late Show homage skit was all about recognising that BTS were the biggest thing since the Beatles to hit the American pop music scene, and that they were performing on exactly the same stage as the Beatles. It was not at all suggesting that they're any kind of copy of the Beatles, simply that they are as culturally significant on an international scale as the band that defined a decade and a generation all those years ago, and have remained relevant to this day. BTS are poised to leave a similar legacy, and that Beatles skit was a playful nod to their achievement and projected trajectory. How these well-meaning but blinkered music journos could get it so wrong is beyond me. They're looking for insults to get righteously offended about, where none were intended and none were given.

Thanks for the discussion. I would be interested in seeing a response to this from, for example, Bang Si Hyuk (BTS' founder) and now Chairman of Hybe. OR, from RM or Suga or J-Hope or any of the other members actually, but RM as the leader in particular. I found BTS through Black Swan - the artfulness and beauty of the song and the meaning as well drew me in. Now full ARMY since 2021 when I found them and never looking back. Best group in history, and not like any other "Boy Band" I've heard in the past. I wish the US would get over whatever stigmas they have and PLAY BTS ON THE RADIO!! I rarely listen anymore on radio and instead use Spotify.

@@artmxyt It's not the radio hosts - though there have been some that are pretty prejudiced. I'm told that about 99% of all radio stations in the US were bought up into two companies. I only remember the smaller one - iHeartRadio - unfortunately. Understanbly this is about money and the hosts get playlists they have to work through. They are usually not music experts or music lovers any more if they ever were. You buy a CF you can decide the music that plays before and after. You sponser an event of the radio station and they will play your music. This is the legal part. But there is also the illegal PFP part aka. Payola. Boracity magazine has made a few essays about this.

Thank you for this; it's extremely refreshing to listen to people discuss BTS, actually take them seriously, and discuss their incredible organic rise to popularity. Dynamite was such a specific moment of triumph in the midst of such a terrible year, and while I will always feel it's a bit bittersweet that they got their first #1 with an all-English track, no one can question how amazing it is! I'll always be grateful to BTS because I found them at a point in my life when I had really lost my joy in life and they brought it back - I was 35 then and I'm 42 now, but I love them even more now than I did on day 1. Appreciate you taking time to unpack all of this!

Where to begin…BTS are where they are because they are RARE. They know us as Army but we know THEM better than we know our birth families. If you fall into the rabbit hole as it’s known you’ll never get out….you won’t want to. They are the most humble, caring, sweet, genuine and compassionate people you will EVER meet. I didn’t think these kinds of people existed. We have fallen hard for these guys not because we are star crossed teens dreaming of a date…but because we have come to know them as a very deep friendship. We know this because of hours upon hours of content that doesn’t lie…it’s there in film nothing acted or scripted…They’re 7 men who have every right to be cocky, arrogant and self absorbed given what they have achieved…but they can’t it’s not who they are.The 7 are so different personality wise and special. When you see how they came together you see how it was fated to be their destiny. ANY person that gives them a true chance will find something to connect to one or all 7…they are so relatable. They came up with a way to start and connect to their fanbase and it’s a very close one….they tell us their fears and what their purpose is in their minds is. They go live a lot or connect on Weverse whenever they can or feel like …it’s like FaceTiming a friend…sometimes it can last for hours just talking, listening to music or suggestions on different subjects….keep in mind these are 7 of the most mindblowingly talented people on the planet just hanging out with the fans…and we have developed friendships with other armies ( we know if someone is sick or having a baby…that type of friendship) we connect with each other….the music is on another level that NOONE can copy …it’s that good and that different! Whether it in English or Korean it’s the most beautiful when needed, jamming and funky, or soul searching music. We are very protective of them they’ve been through times these others cannot fathom. I’m glad we don’t have to rely on radio stations to hear them…we know how and where to get our BTS fix….and they don’t have to play the game of “pay the radio station to play your song” racket..Army know😏

BTS PAVED basically THE WAY FOR KPOP it's not about views, because if it was, the world would know about kpop with psy yeaaaars ago. The whole world was shooked by "gangnam style", but nobody knew who the singer was, what kpop is... You can come to some point with money and views, but to make history you need some extra, and BTS had that. People fell in love with their amazing personlaities, their golden hearts, their respect for everyone from every country, culture, race, religion... They are not idols, ARTists who make their own art in first place, and also not artists who release 1 hit in 2-3 years, but artists who are with their fans in every opportunity they find, like real best friends to their fans. While other 'celebs' are somewhere high, where you can't reach them, BTS is always down to earth, always someone 'like us'. Unlike other idols, their 'look' was not the most important thing, personality first! Proud to be a BTS ARMY, because that says also alot about us, we are people who can appreciate real ART & kind human being

I’m only 5 minutes in to this, but it is so nice to see that these two truly seem to know and appreciate BTS. Nothing as frustrating as seeing someone making judgments about them when they haven’t taken the time to know them. Thank you to these two for knowing their subject. I do disagree somewhat with the “they are not like the Beatles” comment. I am old enough that I remember sitting in my parents den and watching the Beatles first appearance in the USA. While musically, BTS is not like the Beatles, there are many similarities in their rise. The only bummer in this story is ending a story about Dynamite and BTS by naming another group’s song as the top song. I have no problem with another group or song being named the top, but it didn’t feel appropriate to end this whole podcast in that way. Just my little critique. 😊💜

His LIFE GOES ON version was fantastic Also J-HOPE's I WONDER , so short tune yet makes you play it on repeat, it's that good. How about JIMIN, how can someone release a song that's so child friendly, SMERALDO GARDEN MARCHING BAND, then weeks later release a very sexy and emotional WHO,,, and the super crazy song LIKE CRAZY, damn good. V's FOR US, and SLOW DANCING that makes you fall in love, JUNGKOOK's song HATE YOU, whew! What about RM's COME BACK TO ME and WILD FLOWER. Don't forget JIN"s EPIPHANY, ASTRONAUT and what a song about TUNA that's so crazy it's so good . Let's not forget SPRING DAY, it's so emotional and just a wonderful song to listen to any season, and what about DIMPLE , so sexy tune and sooooooooooo much more.
