In my opinion , the Biden Administration and Trumpers have abused Western Europe's dependence on America's military and saw a few months ago that I, if a citizen of a country of Western Europe, would love to get rid of that dependency. An example of that abuse is the Biden Administration reportedly prohibiting Poland from counteracting Russian missiles over Poland enroute to Ukraine that sometimes crash landed in Poland and killed and did property damage which i if a Pole would find unacceptable. On the other hand, I agree with Trump that why should America militarily support Western Europe against Russia if America spends the required quota on national defense and other countries do not? So if Western Europe complies with Trump's demands? What comes next? High tariffs to export to America with low tariffs for America to export to Western Europe? Germany must refrain from buying petroleum products from Russia and pay three times the normal rate for imports from America? There are other suppliers than Russia and America as you all know and any dollars to Russia are cents to Russia's military as with all countries. But, Russia may use their military against Western Europe especially if allowed to rebuild as Germany did from 1918 to 1939. Better to negotiate from position of strength versus weakness. America tried to avoid World Wars I and II and may succeed on avoiding another World War if everybody but America is smart enough to leave America alone. If everybody was a smart as I thought, Putin never would have invaded Ukraine. Either way, count not on America. Vladimir Putin wants Western Europe to overly depend on America and then manipulate Trumps America to be undependable which may occur.

There is an existing European project similar to the one you describe, it‘s called European Union. EU even has a military policy. With NATO headquarter some kilometer away from the European quarter in Brussels, nobody took this policy serious so far. But that could change if NATO proofs to be dead end with Trump.

Europe is not prepared for a land war with Russia at the moment but the allies have supported the US in Iraq and Afghanistan. Moscow could have been brought to its knees much earlier but the US policy did not want that. The mess in Ukraine started in 2014 and security guarantees were given in the Minsk agreement. The overall policy has failed.

Western Europe’s Nato commitment to the Ukraine war has never been straight forward and I acknowledge the larger commitment by the US here. Russia signed an agreement with NK so they would supply troops to help Russia’s war effort. If western europe also put troops on the ground it would bring a speedy end to the war but the peace would become much more complicated and the escalation Nato didn’t want would then be unavoidable. Iran could also contribute troops because of the tri-partisan security pact Russia signed with them. Europe cannot guarantee support from America so would have to sustainably up its war production and troop acquisition so its an all or nothing decision. Russia will re arm and return one day so Western European countries will have to act now or face a ‘chamberlain moment’ of denial before the storm.

Many think that just because shipments of aid are still arriving in Ukraine that they are exempt also, when these shipments were actually sent by the previous administration. And words are being put in Trumps mouth quite frequently, the reporter suggested fresh sanctions on Russia, not trump, Trump only said that it was a possibility. Where as the return of Zelensky to Washington in a couple of months looking for another $80 billion dollars is actually the situation that he wants to avoid at all costs.
