Mandale is very old city,here our Indian freedom fighter Bal Gangadhat Tilak was kept in jail .( he is also known as Lokmanya Tilak).Here in jail he wrote his great novel Geetarahasya.

Settlers/traders from UP, Bihar and Bengal introduced the paan culture in the Assam plains. After that it spread to the hills of the erstwhile Assam province and NEFA. At least Burma should have been spared, but noooo! Paan tamul kowai culture pervades the scene there too. Wait till packet gutka makes a grand entry there.
