This makes me think of successful animation funded through Kickstarter and the like 🥰

Sweet. I think that means I'm on the right track so far. Haha! I'm starting very small and trying to slowly work my way up. I have an animated webseries that I wrote called Wasted Money to be released on KZbin and I expect each episode to be 4-5 minutes long. I gathered a very small team and funded the pilot episode out of pocket. The pilot is still in production and as soon as it's ready, I will publish it on KZbin and use it to promote the series, run a kickstarter... basically I'll use the pilot episode as a marketing tool and as my proof of concept for the Kickstarter 😃

I am really bad at art in genral but want to start a animation compnay and make people's animated series where would I start who would I hire to help?

Hi Aaron, thanks for this question too. Lots to cover but I'd recommend putting time in yourself to improve your art skills and video production knowledge over the years. If there's an opportunity to work in the industry either in a creative or technical role then go for it, you'll gain contacts and valuable experience that you can then put toward your own animation company in the future. If you start the studio 'now'... then build up some creative contacts who could help bring an animation project to life. Pitch for projects and slowly fill in the job roles you can't (or don't want to) tackle yourself. Perhaps you can take on the role of Producer and Head of Marketing yourself, then look to bring on an illustrator/designer/animator. Over time you can then expand and naturally find the other roles you might need. i.e. script writer, character designer, background artist, 3D modeller, rigger, more animators, office manager, head of sales, editor, sound designer etc. But initially, you can start by building up a studio online presence, pitch for work and call on freelance creatives to help bring projects to life.

As an aspiring writer for animation/tv/games in college, once I graduate should I just join a small animation studio, freelance, or do a paid internship at one of the bigger studios?

Can I get the names of some studios that I can submit my Show to, and can I submit it on Netflix as well, I’m getting a Netflix vibes of my show.

Hey, sorry I don't have any studio names to share but there's no harm in doing a search and reaching out to any that you think may be interested. However, unless you have budget to spent to have them work on a pitch/treatment for you, I think you'll struggle to get much response. I love your ambition for submitting to Netflix. To get in the room with Netflix you need to think why they'd be interested. Do everything you can to for them to want to meet and consider your project. As I understand it they have 100's of proposal meetings every month. Though these are typically from BIG established, trusted agencies, producers, showrunners who have a successful history. Or they have big-name talent connected. i.e. an a-List named Director connected with the project. Just having a good script or an idea you love won't be enough. That's not to say it's impossible but you may need to think longer term. i.e. Make/commission some short films, win-awards, be able to show that you've developed and produced successful, interesting projects time and time again. Show that you can manage a team, manage large project budgets (or at least build a team that can). With that success, actively network, meet people make friends and connect. When the time comes start working on your BIG project proposal, do your research... is it something Netflix, Hulu, Amazon etc.. might be looking to commission?. Speak with your new connections to try and understand what the online giants might be looking to commission. Is it too similar to something else?.. too real?... to fantasy?.. not edgy? ... too edgy? etc. etc. ... Write the first episode, plan out a series, produce a few mins of animation. Get a high-level producer with connections to believe in your project, to believe that you can deliver. Have them willing to stake their good reputation on the project as well. Work to get some famous actor/actors signed up to voice some of the characters. Do everything you can to show the value in the project and do everything you can to reduce the risk for saying yes to your project. All that.. and then you might get your meeting with Netflix. :-) Exciting... definitely hard work... but fun... good luck!!

To pitch your idea to Netflix, you're gonna need to contact a producer or anyone that is affiliated with Netflix.
