I'm currently setting up an animation studio inspired by oriental studios from Japan and South Korea. It's called Kawaii Kreations, and we specialize in traditional 2D Animation for animations, commercials, games, and more. We also do some 3D Animation if necessary.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for a lot of advice over the course of your channel's life. I have been building an animation/talent agency hybrid for the last 3 years and was shocked at how little information there is on the business side of animation. We are officially incorporating on the 1st of Jan, have a business deal with an anime studio in Japan, voice talent agencies in Canada, and a Walt Disney animation team joining mostly thanks to channels like this helping to understand the business more than just the basics. The biggest challenge I faced starting this venture was getting information, as most creators under large animation studios are under NDAs and cannot really tell you anything of value, I want to thank you and others like you for sharing what you have learned, I'm sure its helped a lot of people decide on the path they want to take for themselves.

Hi love the video, My animation company has been running fro 12 months now and were doing ok but my main problem I'm struggling with is consistent lead flow and work how did you start with getting clients in the door?
@StartAStudio Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Wow this video feels old now.. 😅. When I first took the leap, quit the day job at a production company and started the studio from a spare room at home. I was pitching (low budgets) for each and any video project I could find online. (any that were within my own skill set) . Lots of pitches. Then between that, I was constantly working on improving the website. I attended some local business networking events (not my favourite thing to do at all) which led to some contacts with Web Design companies and other startups. This eventually led to the web design companies connecting me with clients who needed videos for their new site launches or related marketing activities. Plus one or two of the startups also commissioned some short promos. I slowly won some of the online pitches, got some repeat business, and steadily upped the studio rate over the early months till I was actually making money and not eating into savings / credit card bills. I tried to make each video at a quality worthy of showcase on the studio website, even if it meant putting more time in than the project budgets really allowed. Plus toward the end of the first year I did run some low-cost advertising using Google Ads at the time (once the site was looking smart enough to highlight expertise and any specialisms/niche). This lead to some good contacts and some enquiries from multinational organisations. Which are great as that means an increased chance of repeat business (if not always the most exiting work). Some of which we're still a key supplier for years later.

We are starting a small studio and we want to upload our animations on youtube, but we're struggling with our income. We don't know how to devide it among members. I searched the whole web but i could not find anything. There's also this new guy who says he can help us in developing our channel. He gives ideas about having multiple channels, None animation content etc. He gives promises that he can help us get rich soon or something. And he also wants a big part of the money we make. I don't actually trust him, but my friend (a friend of him introduced the guy) thinks he knows a lot. I appreciate Any help i could get.
@StartAStudio Жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for commenting. Are you hoping to make the income from KZbin views (and related monetisation?). Or looking to produce content for clients? Splitting the money. It will depend on your approach. Who owns 'the company'. If you can work out the cost/% of the work for each person on a project that should help give some indication of how to split the income. If (now or in time) you register the business officially you can setup a business bank account so all income goes there. As for someone offering to help develop the channel. It's hard to say, but if you're not sure then you're probably thinking that for a reason. You can learn EVERYTHING you need to know about building, growing and monetising channels via KZbin videos, but of course if they're bringing real value to it, they deserve some fair financial reward. But KZbin success isn't guaranteed. Having multiple channels sounds fine in principle, but then that's a lot of content to produce. Perhaps have some meetings with them, learn more about what they're offering. What they'll require from you for it to be a success etc etc.. Good luck.

It doesnt matter anymore...AI will replace all of us anyway
@StartAStudio Жыл бұрын
It's a valid concern no doubt...! ... and one I've been trying to dive into over recent months to try and figure out for my self and others what the future of animation production is going to look like. AI is certainly not going to go away, and the output produced by AI will certainly only get better over the next 12-18 months. Right now the text prompt to video AI sites are limited in their usefulness. I think the only thing to do is to try to keep up to speed with the latest tools and learn how you can integrate them into your own workflows. There are a lot of unknowns but I do think creatives and those familiar with the tools and how to use them to create compelling content, ideally with the inclusion of more traditional techniques, i.e. some filming, some hands-on design or control of 3D models will be in demand. AI tools have been used in animation production more and more over the past 5-10 years, from rotoscoping, physics, VFX, and image replacement/fill, including deepfakes in Disneys CGI LionKing remake.... but absolutely the recent rise of AI-generated art tools like MidJourney and Dall-E and improving tools like Runway ML and Kaiber... and storyboarding, and design tools powered by Adobe Firefly are certainly going to impact what the day to day job of a creative (writer, concept artist, designer, illustrator, filmmaker, editor, colourist, animator, 3D modeller, sound designer, musician, editor) look like. But.. I do think creatives with skills in composition, who understand pacing, lighting, mood and emotion.. who are able to integrate and control exact imagery to explain subjects, showcase products and exactly control an image are going to be needed for a long time to come. There's also the ever-increasing consumption of media, more digital screens, the potential rise in AR screens and more content etc. I'm not sure what the future holds... we've even setup a new site at aianimation.com to try and create a hub for creatives using AI to assist in animation production. With a view to trying to promote and champion the human element of the creative, behind the tools. It's early days there and I'm not sure how it will evolve. We've just completed a hand-drawn animation at our studio, its taken month, has been hard work but a pleasure to work on. So I'd hate to see projects like that disappear entirely.

Hello! I have a very important question and i hope you can provide the an answer.. my question is: Can I be the director of my own animated series? I want to create a comic book in the near future, I've already come up with some interesting story ideas and everything. I'll be the writer and hire an artist because I such a drawing. I would like to start my own animation studio or pitch my comic to Netflix. I want to be the one directing my series so is it possible to be the director even if I'm not an animator? Or at least I can co-direct it.

I am really bad at art in genral but want to start a animation compnay and make people's animated series where would I start who would I hire to help?
@StartAStudio2 жыл бұрын
Hi Aaron, thanks for this question too. Lots to cover but I'd recommend putting time in yourself to improve your art skills and video production knowledge over the years. If there's an opportunity to work in the industry either in a creative or technical role then go for it, you'll gain contacts and valuable experience that you can then put toward your own animation company in the future. If you start the studio 'now'... then build up some creative contacts who could help bring an animation project to life. Pitch for projects and slowly fill in the job roles you can't (or don't want to) tackle yourself. Perhaps you can take on the role of Producer and Head of Marketing yourself, then look to bring on an illustrator/designer/animator. Over time you can then expand and naturally find the other roles you might need. i.e. script writer, character designer, background artist, 3D modeller, rigger, more animators, office manager, head of sales, editor, sound designer etc. But initially, you can start by building up a studio online presence, pitch for work and call on freelance creatives to help bring projects to life.
