I taught my Thai girlfriend to drive, couldn’t believe how quick she learned, is 43 and never drove before, only a motorbike. We found a big empty field and over a few days she got more confident. Then over the next few weeks took it slow on the back roads. After about 2 months she can drive for a few hours and is now a very good driver after 2 years with no accidents 😊

G’day James, Car or Bike licence use an agent is cuts through all the cues, time and stuffing around go to one of the visa shops, offices they will help you James the Car or Bike licence it’s a 2 day course in Jomtien the first day is classroom stuff you listen to instructor you watch a lot of road traffic movies and do paper work, second day you ride a scooter around a marked course in a car park area, doing stops, accelerating, going around corners that sort of stuff, if that OK you go back inside they take your photo and you wait then they bring you your new licence what they require you to bring with you Passport current Doctor report health, eye test letter, I think cost 100 baht 2 photo’s passport size Residence letter from immigration TM30 proof of residency copy of your lease complete online driver training cert old drivers or and bike licence if you have one Photo copies of all the above use an agent for an extra 1000 baht or so it will cost it save you time and the hassle they will make the appointment with the Transport office in Jomtien Cheers Michael

I’ll sum up my comment for some who didn’t understand it the first time. Some places get close to US prices. In the ballpark. (Not more.) I haven’t been to the very expensive places in Thailand. I’m sure they’re even more than what I pay. I don’t eat at night markets. Yet! That would be much cheaper. I’m there every 2-3 months. I still do the tourist thing for now.

No idea. Sorry. It's the older slower train so might be a bit painful.

The train is not the way to go there. Take a bus... $5 or less and its 2 and change hours. Train would be $3 but the drop off in Pattaya is far away from city center whereas the bus is close. A cab (pre arranged) would be around $30 there and $35 back with tolls. When you fly into Bangkok and staying a night or two then you go the Ekkamai Bus Terminal to go to Pattaya Its on Sukhumvik road. Duh...
