Been sober just over a year now and lost almost all my friends apart from 1 or 2, still haven't been able to make any news ones which kinda sucks but ive been embracing the loner life working out and doing big hiking and cycling trips, definitely feel much much better

@@LeeF12347you’ve done it before, and you can do it again. Recovery isn’t always linear, and that’s okay. Just keep trying, I promise it’s worth it ❤️

Sober almost 6 years and you’ll definitely find out who your friends are and who are/were your “drinking buddies”. I still hang out with some of my friends who still drink but lately have been slowly breaking away from them as well as they are basically functioning alcoholics. Hanging out at a bar with them and listening to the same old good ole day stories and watching them become loud and obnoxious is painful. I then think “damn. Was I such an asshole as well??” lol. I also am focused on working out and hiking. There is a good meetup group near me that has some good hikes. I am fine with the solitude of a road less traveled. I wish my drinking friends well but also know eventually all of that drinking is going to catch up with them.

I feel you Tim, been sober for a few months, it's a challenge. You're right, sober people have entered my life, and my real friends gave remained. Skipped an Xmas dinner because it seemed very centered on drinking, and i found myself thinking maybe it'd be okay if i had just a few. I stayed home instead with a supportive friend who has never been a drinker. It's a tough road, but life's a tough road. We can all make it without drinking and partying

My old old aunt Bess, who loved to drink, used to say that drinkers don’t have friends they have cronies. I had a friend whose father was a drinker. When the father died and none of the “friends” showed up to the funeral he went to see them they talked about failing to come to the dad’s last ceremony, but none could satisfy my friend with a reason for not showing. I’d go with Bess’ hypothesis that in the bar there are no friends only cronies. But that’s a call each of us must make. I’m sober for six weeks and I wish everyone in the same or similar position good luck.

I found that I don't have much in common with the friends I drank with. Its true, when you say you want to hang out for a walk etc, it doesn't happen. So do you, you have work to do on yourself. That can take up a lot of time. So don't panic. It will all fall into place. 3 years sober. No regrets.
@glenh4971
@glenh4971 3 жыл бұрын
If you are new to sobriety you need to take a semi-permanent break from your old friends that are getting wasted regularly. People that drink responsibly are fine to continue your friendship's with. The longer you are sober the easier this becomes. After a few years of sobriety you will no longer want to hang out with drunks. They no longer interest us. We know that most people drink but they drink the way we can't. Which is responsibly. Drinking isn't a bad thing. Normy's drink. It isn't a problem for them. I have been sober for almost 8 years. I don't care if anyone drinks. I just have no interest in drunks though. There is a difference. Those people are not ready to live a better life yet. Leave em be.

So thankful I found your channel and for this video! I have 13 months sober and it feels great and I'm very excited. I'm lucky to have some close friends who are super supportive of me, but as the world starts opening back up, I'm worried about how I will fit back in without drinking when it was such a staple for me for any and all social interactions. I understand and am ready for the transition you talk about and I would love to open up my life to some folks who are more like-minded in terms of sobriety and health/fitness. I appreciate your message that it takes time, I needed to hear that! I'm going to keep doing my thing and taking care of myself and put my faith into the process. Thank you Tim!

I wish friendship transcended addiction. A great friend of mine got hard into pills and after he stopped paying rent he went to rehab and he stopped talking to me after that.i get it. And we did drugs together, but it wasnt that bad of a problem for me and his mom basicly looked at me as the fuckup when really it wasnt that way

Thankfully even tho I made decision to stop using and drinking my friends still do and they support me and I want to be the example for them to want to change also. We also do things and I can remain sober. But the places I used to go discos and stuff I’m just not interested, I really don’t like seeing people drunk. And yes you run into people sober, sometimes I feel lonely on the bike but then I’ll see pretty women and on the trail and it just reminds me those are the type of women that are more interesting not the club women.

Idunno if I'm doing this right .. but I have periods when I stop drinking and then I drink maybe three days up to even a week and i stop again for like 2-4 weeks... but I had to work on it... At first i was drinking a lot up to 2months constantly... Then I'll stop a 3day up to a week.... And I'll drink again.... so I had to build to. The most recent i drank for about a week...and right now i haven't had drink an almost 1month... And i don't feel like drinking at all... I'm going for 2-3mnths this time without a drink... And maybe 2 days of drinks after that time and stop drinking again... I still don't know my final goal :'( but I do know alcohol can ruin ur life that's why I started getting my shit together.... Because I was drinking a lot ! Once again idunno if I'm doing it right but its working for me ! And i feel super happy !

@@jackedkerouac4414 i actually agree... That's why I don't know what my end goal is.... Like idunno if I want to quite completely or just moderate my drinking... It was super bad for me in the passed ... Drinking every day and really early... I tried quiting cold turkey but it really didn't help much... I tried programs and all failed until I decided to try it this way... And hey it's helped me a lot ! Haha that's why I say i don't know if I'm right by doing this but it's helped a lot! I truly believe i was full blown addicted to this crap... But now i feel great ! I do have those drinks but the time i spend not drinking is getting longer and the time i spend drinking is getting shorter..
