I don't understand so much talk about not running on the first first down. The Saints probably expected a run. It was a calculated gamble. The coaches wouldn't have thought Bryce would so badly miss his target. How many times have we complained about run, run, pass, punt in the past? Also, what's the final score if they run on that down? Do the Panthers steal a victory? The problems are much deeper than one playcall.

It was a good call, the Saints were expecting a run and they had guys open that play. It was Bryce's fault. Also, if a #1 overall pick can't shake being shook from a bad rookie season and is regressing then that's on him. It's a grown man's league. All the great QBs overcome adversity, not the opposite. A reminder that the NFL is punishing the franchise. They wanted Carolina to draft Andrew luck but they drafted cam. Cam was unfairly treated by the league and refs and then the league forced the sale of the team to a NFL insider that promised to tank the franchise.

We gave up 2 first round picks (1 of which was the 1 over pick) a second, and DJ Moore for Bryce Young. If you can’t rely on him to not throw the ball away on the first play with a clean pocket and open receivers then why the hell is he even here. That is not remotely on Canales. Run first team or not it’s crazy to feel the need to baby and hide the number 1 overall pick “franchise” QB in his second season.

So, I think you’re looking at this wrong. The blame on Couch is for not playing his starters in the Preseason. He exposed them to game speeds they were not ready nor in shape for. That 1st play was wide open! How many wide open targets did BY miss by a mile?! Guess what those wide open receivers were…? Good play calls! The design worked and got the receivers open. But the QB was not capable of doing his job. I personally don’t think he’s an NFL QB. But I’m hoping he just has sparring partner syndrome. He hasn’t been punched in the mouth in practice. His one little drive against backups doesn’t count for much. As much as I hope I’m wrong about him, I doubt I am. Now the defense… wow! I thought they looked terrible against the Bill’s backups & boy was I right to be worried! I just wasn’t worried enough! Now Brown is out for the season; & although he looked terrible in the Bills and Saints games, he’ll be missed. But let’s face it, he’s a run stopper not a pass rusher and we were last on the league with him in their and we paid him huge money. Not sure why they waived Sherrif?! We need he edge rushers and we cut a promising young player?! This team sucks.
