This rule actually also hurts from a pro-player perspective. Part of why they continue playing is because of sponsorship deals which can come in the form of Sleeves and Mats. So this rule along with the not so good prizing support from Konami could actually affect how many pro-players continue to play the game.

The silly part is needing a policy like this at all. To my knowledge, Magic the Gathering has never needed official clarification about what is acceptable on a playmat. If it was too horny, judge removed it, so the people who bring horny shit just didn't feel welcome or stopped doing that.

So if solid colors are allowed, that means that TECHNICALLY you can have a matte playmat with a satin or gloss design on it, so long as it’s the same color. It’s just a different finish, or even texture if you’re feeling adventurous.

I have a playmat that has official Konami art work, but is not an official Konami brand product. It uses the artwork of Fasolfachord Francia, but was bought from a custom mat maker. Do you think that they would allow that, not that i have plans to go to that turnament?

Does a Yugioh Monopoly Board count? Would probably extend to half of your opponents table, and with only Cardboard on it it will likely not flatten out. And in case a judge would complain, stil bring the Aluminium foil and wrap the board.

See, my idea was- get one of the old plastic duel discs and play on that. Keep it strapped to your arm the entire time. Probably have to sleeve your deck in hard shell top loaders to protect your cards from your own "mat" at that point, but they're a solid clear so that should be allowed.
