Forget motivational posters, snack rooms, and foosball, if you’ve ever wanted to know what creates truly deep engagement at work-the kind that makes employees look forward to showing up on Monday and stay in the company year after year-watch this TEDx talk.
Don Rheem masterfully uses cutting-edge neuroscience to show leaders how to create high-performance workplace cultures where employees can thrive. The future of work will demand more of leaders, and Rheem offers science-based, relational tools organizations can immediately put into practice. Rheem’s unique approach is backed up with startling data-his client companies average a 30% increase in the number of engaged employees in just the first year!
In his recently released book, Thrive By Design: The Neuroscience That Drives High-Performance Cultures, (ForbesBooks) he shares the secrets to getting employees as excited to come to work on Mondays as they do leaving Friday afternoon.
Don Rheem is the CEO of E3 Solutions, a provider of employee workplace metrics and manager training that allow organizations to build engaged cultures where people are healthier and more productive.

I'm the organizational development director at Concordia Plan Services, a faith-based nonprofit and Don and his E3 Team have been working with us for a number of years helping us evaluate our level of engagement and better understand all the dynamics and variables he discusses in this TED talk. This is the real deal based on science, human behavior, social psychology and systems theory. The book he references--Thrive by Design (D. Rheem / Forbes)--is a MUST read for anyone interested in truly finding a path forward vs. the tired old employee satisfaction approaches. Thanks, Don & E3 team for helping us on our journey to be the best organization we can be!

Yes, common sense is not common practice. Don, your clear explanation is very compelling. What used to be seen as "negative" in the workplace, i.e. "You guys are having too much fun!" is now seen as an essential element to high quality productivity and retention. Thank you!

Such a great talk. "The future of work will be defined more by how it feels than how it pays" --- this is huge.

Great talk and right-on-target! Imagine if the 88% of toxic organizational cultures understood and practiced this message. Everything would improve and it's shown to when these conditions are present.

Building trust in the workplace is a way to lead teams to greater productivity, effectiveness, efficiency, etc.; but that never seemed to be a compelling reason for most managers to learn the skills necessary to make it happen. Recently I was speculating that a sea change is coming because the millennials simply won't tolerate poor leadership. Interesting that Don Rheems seems to confirm the thought, but also says that the sea change will happen simply because the number of jobs will outstrip candidates.
