It's very interesting how so many family members will get involved when your planning your wedding. For example for me calling my dad, inviting my mums sister who i have big issues etc. Those family members wanting to be nosey as heck as opposed to actually caring for your wellbeing.

This really opened my eyes about marriage, marriage really isn't easy, the devil doesn't like love and unity. If no one has told you this, you guys will be blessed, God has watched yo go through it and your dedication, tears and hard work will not go unnoticed. it really got me broken down, you guys really don't deserve it all of that trouble, but it just shows you guys really love each other, may God continue to bless you both💞

The father part l can relate 💯. And it’s a grey area that we never speak on as Africans with absent fathers. And people try and force you to let this man even take dowry when he was never there at all at all.
@anne_chiem7 ай бұрын
Honestly it’s such a grey area!😭
@jct42947 ай бұрын
100% that dowry bit. Like i feel like this new generation we are moving away from all these unnecessary traditional things that shouldn't be done. If my dad was barely there when you were growing up, why is he taking dowry please and the rest of the family egging it on abeg use common sense.

My brother and sis in law spoke about their trauma during their wedding planning time. They had to go for marriage counselling again and go to a marriage retreat to help heal the pain they went through due to extended family I’m sorry you had to go through this Chiem and Anne. I pray that we do better as a community so our young couples have a good start to their married life 😢❤

My dad asking for a goat whilst I'm doing my Nigerian introduction whilst i kindly put him on camera to introduce my husband's family to him because he was back home at the time (wouldn't have invited him to it anyway). Like what the heck. Then also having the audacity to bash my mum for the reason why he wasn't coming when she was actually expecting him and kept asking about his wellbeing ect. Anyway they barely give energy throughout you growing up and it's events like this they want to show face. BOUNDARIES !!!

I’m glad mothers are getting the recognition they deserve after all the hard work and effort. This just healed a part of me because my absent father keeps singing of how I’d need him when I want to get married, man won’t even be in the crowd 😂😂
@harietodion1957 ай бұрын
I've heard many people mention that the dynamics of relationships shift during the wedding season. It's disheartening to hear, especially since it's supposed to be a time of joy, unity, and togetherness. I'm also grappling with the absence of my father, which brings me a lot of anxiety when I think about getting married. I can’t help but imagine my mom taking on his role, even though he’s here, he’s just not “here” enough for me to assign that role to on my big day. I can only hope my Nigerian family is understanding about this.
@anne_chiem7 ай бұрын
Honestly it is very disheartening! In terms of your father, honestly you have to do what you think is best and makes you happy, it’s your wedding day and your happiness on that day is so important 🤍

You both are so cute and beautiful - bless you both & wishing your marriage the very best IJN. So here's the thing, I've heard all different kind of stories from people who have gotten married. From the unnecessary input here and there to unhelpful behaviour et al. For both of you, with your cousin and your siblings the behaviour on both ends is sad to hear and just disappointing but people are humans and are fallible - excuse or not, people choose who they want to be to people. Like when people say there are happy for you and they're not cooperative etc, it's something I do not get but I have learnt in general to believe (no matter how upsetting) that their behaviour is a conscious choice. People have no shame lol...Can you imagine?! What I respect from both of you is your boundaries and you actually reaching out to respective parties to try and follow up etc but after everything important events will really teach you what and who are important! When people aren't able to put their pride aside for someone they claim to love, it's a shocking thing but sometimes it's a build up of resentment or other things known to them. But you said something so powerful as believers - breaking curses, making a stand and a change in your families and God sees that. Sending love x

It’s a shame that those who have been personally selected, by the bride and groom (lead roles), to play a significant part (supporting roles) in their wedding not grasp the importance of making the dream work. Yes, the wedding is the bride and groom’s dream, but it still takes a team (of family and friends) to make the dream work. Like, if you personally feel that you cannot play a significant role in the beautiful movie, then that’s okay. No bride or groom wants to pressurise anyone into doing anything they’re uncomfortable with or simply unable to do. The worst thing people can do is not Communicate that. You may not be comfortable playing the supporting role (bridesmaid, etc) but just having your presence at the wedding (cameos/extras) is still just as important. They only realise when it’s their turn because they’re experiencing what they put you through now happening to them. Just hearing your conversation, as a single man, is really inspiring. I’m very intentional about the contents I consume, and consuming contents which align with my growth (marriage, self-development, etc) is refreshing. Proud of you, guys. God bless your marriage. Thank you for sharing your experience and how you’ve handled it. 🙏🏾

I definitely don't feel like you should have gone above and beyond for your sister to attend your wedding. She clearly did not care enough to put her pride aside. I can be extremely cross with my sis but will come even if I'm fighting her even if i don't speak to her afterwards but will still attend. I feel like it was an intentional dig which is sad 🙁
