I love Al, and I love early Bee Gees songs. I usually like originals more than covers, but Al is awesome on this one. And JM, hope your power is back on ASAP, man. I've got relatives in the area too.

The song was written by the Bee Gees after their break, Robin left the group for one and a half year. This song and "lonely days" were about their break!

Thank you for this, Jarvis, especially under the circumstances. I'm glad you and your family are OK and that you had someplace safe to go. Written by Barry Gibb and originally performed by the Bee Gees, both versions are masterful. You can tell that Rev Al was destined to be a preacher because of his vocal flourishes and the heartfelt, emotion he conveys. Beautiful song and beautiful reaction, brother. Please stay safe.

"How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" was the Bee Gees first number one hit in the US in 1971, but I remember hearing the Al Green version of the song more often back when I was a kid. I was too young back then to relate much to the song though. Two more great covers of Bee Gees songs are Nina Simone's version of "To Love Somebody" and José Feliciano's cover of "Marley Purt Drive". And for some more soulful ballads from back when, check out Aaron Neville "Tell It Like It Is", Smokey Robinson "Ooo Baby Baby", The Temptations "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)", and Brenton Wood "I Like The Way You Love Me".

This song is not a love song, it refers to the break up of the singing group The Bee Gees. "How Can You Mend.." was never released a single by Stax Records, later in 1978 Vogue released it as a 45 rpm. This tune was written after a breakup of the Bee Gees. “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart”, originally released by The Bee Gees, was the lead single on the Bee Gees album Trafalgar. Primarily written by Barry and Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, this song was the groups first U.S. number one hit! The song was written after a period of distance between the brothers. The writing of the song helped bring the brothers back together. Billboard ranked the track as No. 5 song for the year of 1971. Lyrically, the song is genius. Its central question about how to mend a broken heart is answered in one word never actually uttered by Robin Gibb: Love. Barry and Robin wrote the song as they were bringing the band back together after the Bee Gees had split up. It really is a song about the brothers and for the brothers but it reflects the universality of sorrow being vanquished by joy, the joy of love. This most human of truths will remain a constant as long as people live. Al Green's one and only number one hit was in 1972, Al Green went to No. 1 on the US singles chart with "Let's Stay Together," his only US chart topper.

Thats a BeeGees stuff. No. one hits in 71. I dont like his cover for this.😂😂 People should should write their own stuff. Not relying on other people stuff. Lots of Young folks and reactors today think that this song was Als original song.

So should folks also rely upon the genres created by their own, because Gospel, Blues, Soul, Rock, R&B, Jazz, Pop, Funk, Disco, Country, Hip Hop, etc., etc., (all music original to America), are all Black American creations.

@@loriannrichardson7644 you are dreaming. The same as inventions, spaceships, rockets, Formula, Class, music is a white people thing. According to Wikipedia, Jimmy Rodgers is the father of country music. Stephen c Foster is also the father of American music. He's also the first one who wrote pop music. And Alan Freed is the first one who started the Rock music.

@@Rasputin-p4e Nah, misinformation right there, brother, you need to search and read more, the Rock came from the Blues and the Black Gospel Musicians, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, for example, unfortunately for you, brother, talking bout culture, almost everything you listen is from the black culture, remember the african cultures were way more evolved than the European/Whites, the thing is, Europeans killed, raped, robbed all the continent, Remember, Egypt, the first great civilization is a african country, so don't come with that "the whites created", the whites stole, as the always do...

Whoa slow down bro! Some of the greatest songs in history have been covers and so many classics were written by people other than the person who sung it. You trippin dude 😂
@Rasputin-p4e
@Rasputin-p4e 3 ай бұрын
@@RicoCosta317 you should be the one to slow down. Your greatest songs in history might not be my type of greatest songs. I'm only commenting about beegees in particular. Besides, I only call an artist, a real artist if he can write and compose his own song. Minus that, he's not worthy at all. It's all right if you cover one or two, but if yer songs are 80 percent cover songs and the rest are written by someone else, that's terrible.
