Carbs! Just one more thing to love about speedway racing Keeping it so pure and traditional and mainly about the riders’ skills.

Tatum's technical videos are brilliant. He explains speedway like Carl Sagan explains the universe. I wish more of my university professors had been as good as he is at lecturing.

Interesting video Kelvin. It’s long enough to keep your interest and concise enough for you to get the point of the topic. I didn’t imagine a speedway bike’s carburettor looking like that. It looks like an expensive piece of kit!

It is great to see some of the hidden parts of modern speedway machines but I would have liked a little more detail regarding the changes a rider might make during a meeting, why and what?

There's lots more to know about carbs, too. For example the altitude of the track plays into it. I've also heard that some folks have introduced water into the tank in order to change the power characteristics of the engine. (Nitro does the opposite...but it's banned) Cheers

Hi from New Zealand,I would like to convert an early J.A.P speedway carburetor to run on petrol.Have you any information on this please?Do i just need to change the jetting or the mixture body as well, and can it be converted to needle on the slide? Regards Graeme

Methanol fuel normally needs a higher flow jet in the carburettor.

I suppose you could say some of the very first speedway bikes were laydowns like the douglas twin nothing is really new just refined over many years.

Has fuel injection ever been tested on a speedway bike?
