Oh come on, even if Epilogue was clearly intended as a DCAU finale, JLU's series finale was still one hell of a way to go out. Especially Superman's 'World of Cardboard' speech - easily one of my favorite Superman moments in any medium.

The JLU series finale was exactly what it needed to be, with the "self conscious" run at the camera being the perfect way of saying that even after beating the big bads evil isn't gonna rest and the fight goes on even if we aren't there to see it.

I agree completely. It was a nice reminder of just how many heroes are part of DC Comics. The heroes running down the steps did so in the teams with which they were associated - Seven Soldiers of Victory, Justice Society, Justice League International, Justice League of America and ending with DC Comics's Holy Trinity (Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman).
@goopfunk1780

Couldn’t agree more. In Justice league (episode titled hereafter) but even more so in the comics, Superman refers to fighting crime/evil as “The Never-Ending Battle” there will always be villains and world ending threats and monster to fight, but there will always be heroes to save us from those things as well. Wonder Woman says “and the adventure, continues” exactly its kind of implied they all just keep doing what they do best, being super heroes, fighting the good fight, and participating in “The Never-Ending Battle”

I strongly disagree. The JLU finale was the sort of giant fireworks displays that most superhero properties only dream of. It’s big, it’s world shaking, everyone gets a moment. Having it end with Lex Luthor being the world saver he always claimed to be was, honestly, kind of perfect. Also, Patriot Act is one of my favorite episodes of the JL/JLU series

Thank you! Patriot Act tells the story of what it truly means to be a hero, a protector, a soldier. Shining Knight's speech about not following orders blindly, and saying no to killing innocents is probably in the top ten best moments of the DCAU or Timverse for me. Also I'm a sucker for anything having to do with the Seven Soldiers of Victory!

The DCAU holds an incredibly special place in my heart as it introduced me to countless characters and the incredible world of DC comics that got me into comics and characters like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman etc... and sooooooooooo many more. Though you could say some of the shows weren't stellar and had to take time to build up to the phenomenal stories they would tell, it still left a major impact that is still felt to this day and rightfully praised. Honestly I actually like the ending of the show as it truly felt grand and epic while concluding character arcs like Lex Luthor which I really liked.

This show and the rest of the DCAU really is a love letter to all DC fans worldwide. It tackled so many mature themes without talking down to its audience, ie. the children watching the show and like you said, its impact is still felt across the entertainment medium till this very day. I strongly believe no other animated show will ever come close to this level of connectivity and masterclass writing in terms of building an animated universe.

Terry is not a clone. He's Bruce's actual son down a genetic level. When Terry's father went in for a flu shot the nanites in it rewrote his reproductive material to be Bruce's DNA. So Terry is basically a child of Bruce and Terry's mother. A clone would imply that he is just a full on copy of Bruce when it most definitely isn't. Amanda explains the full Batman Beyond project and what she did.

@@ironheart5830 Ditto. At least Terry wasn't just a Robin (proof Bruce has taken in kids with potential like Terry before without having to literally be their genetic father), but it felt like it retroactively cheapened everything Terry had been through all series, like the only reason anybody could _possibly_ like Terry was because of his pedigree. Because as everybody knows, you can only be a beloved superhero if you're born with enough midichlorians. 🙄 It also cheapens the death of Warren McGinnis, a scene that was supposed to be Terry's Uncle Ben moment. With the revelation that Bruce essentially testicle-jacked (I _wish_ there was a better word for that, I really do...) Warren, is the implication that Terry no longer thinks of his father the same as before now that he knows? That's cold, considering Terry's entire origin revolved around finding out who killed his dad. Even filler episodes occasionally made it clear that the reason Terry is the kind of person he is is because of how Warren, not Bruce, raised him. This is to say nothing of the fact that rewriting a man's nut sauce is now a canon thing that you can do with sufficient technology in the DCAU. Did Bruce have backup spawn? Exactly how many Brustards are running around Neo Gotham? This takes the cake over coming up with contingency plans to kill all his colleagues as one of the most insane things Batman has ever done, IMHO. It should probably qualify as some kind of s3xual assault. And for what? A man that magnetically attractive to literally all women should not have had that much trouble finding one willing to ride the Batmobile.
@Stephanieeeeeeuhhhhh
@Stephanieeeeeeuhhhhh 5 ай бұрын
@@draketheduelist i would say its more like, it makes the story of terry more gross as his literal mother changed his genetic code and never told him, basically forcing him into the life he lead and even then he excelled and became more.

"You're the only one here with Superpowers" is one of the most memorable lines from the series IMO. I'll admit, I used t find the episode quite boring way back, but now that I'm older, I see what the message was and I have a lot of respect for the episode. The Brain Robbery Episode only sticks with me for two parts, when Flash as Lex has to bang that sorceress and she's impressed with how giving he was. And when Lex as Flash goes to see who Flash is under the mask and he still doesn't know who he is. That always gets a laugh.

The only low point about Patriot Act is that there is no follow up episode to it. I would really have liked one more episode with Elling. Patriot Act stands out as one of the most memorable episodes to me and to me embodies why Justice League Unlimited works so well. Namely, that the new cast is able to carry the torch, all heroes may not be as great or powerfull as the original seven but even the more unknown heroes have their moments to shine.

The final season definitely felt like (and by Bruce Timm's admission) a "tacked on" season, especially coming off the Cadmus Storyline and the flash-forward to "Batman Beyond". That being said, it was still a great epilogue season, that managed to expand the lore of the DCAU further, and get some really memorable episodes and moments. The Flash-centric episode "Flash & Substance" was a great focus on the scarlet speedster, finally giving us insight into how his alter ego Wally West carries on his civilian life, and more importantly why he's such a great hero in his own right (even if his lone takedown of Luthor/Brainiac the season prior was more than enough proof of the fact). "The Great Brain Robbery" was a fun ep, not only allowing Michael Rosenbaum to "voice" Lex Luthor, as he was playing a live-action version of the character on "Smallville" at the time, but also give Clancy Brown a chance to provide some of his hidden-comedic chops as he voiced Flash who was in Lex's body. We also finally got the real Hawkman in the DCAU with a pretty compelling backstory, that was true to different eras of the comics. And with his introduction, we also got a sense of closure in terms of the John Stewart/Shayera romance. And come on, we get the legendary "cardboard" monologue from Superman, as he takes on Darkseid. The season itself might've lacked the sense of urgency of the previous season's Cadmus Arc, but it was by no means something that "ruined" the ending of Justice League. The one-two punch of "Justice League" and "Justice League Unlimited" still stands as a prime on-screen superhero adaptation, that can rival even some of the best of the MCU, and for DAMN sure runs circles even around the JL adaptations in the DCEU and even the DCAMU.

I actually really enjoyed season 3 of JLU. While the overall plot of Luther and his Legion of Doom wasn't as great as the Cadmus arc in the previous season, it was still fun. I even liked Destroyer simply because of Superman's line, "I feel like I live in a world made of cardboard. Never letting myself slip for even a moment or someone could get hurt. But you can take it, can't you big guy? What we have here is a rare opportunity for me to cut loose." I'm not a massive Superman fan, but I will admit, that battle was really cool to watch. The ending did leave me with a "huh?" moment though. I didn't really understand exactly what Luther did or how any of that worked. Still wish there was a follow up to it. Anyway, thanks for a great video.

Why Luthor did what he did in that finale is simply due to his obsession to remerge with Brainiac, which of course, only ended up by bringing Darkseid back instead.

I totally agree. The key reason that occurred, is due to Bruce Timm's detesting of Crisis stories. He especially said that when Final Crisis was going, which, of course, featured Darkseid with the anti life equation as the main problem, and source of every threat in that story.@@Zorro3k6

I like the world of Cardboard and the ending where very one runs towards the camera. Epilogue was a good ending too. But I like what we got at the end too. over all Networks are too obsessed with toy sales and Demographic. A good idea would be to go in with a planed ending, be aloud to do it and to not return even if asked and if you do return to be promised an exact end date so you can write a solid ending. other good endings could be "The Return" "The Once and Future Thing" "Clash" "Divided We Fall" Justice League vs. the Fatal Five JLA Adventures: Trapped in Time Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox Justice League: War Justice League Dark: Apokolips War Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons Justice League: Warworld Crisis on Infinite Earths Final Crisis Blackest Night Batman: Death of the Family Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne Doomsday Superman: At Earth's End JLA: Act of God Futures End Im just tossing ideas out there to see if they work. for THIS show we would have to rewrite the scrips so they fit the Animated series time line. for the sake of discussion of the stories I listed what ones would have been fun if they were told in the Bruce Timm style with Bruce Timm as the head writer in the Bruce Timm time line with THOSE characters? What ones would we have to completely change to make it fit? What ones would never work? What ones slide in nicely to the story? of the ones that are JLU episodes what ones would have left you happy if the series had just ended there? Ignore IRL time line, Im creating a world where Bruce Timm created that idea in the early 2000s ignore who actually wrote it and what year it actually came out. Just Hypothetically these iconic comic book stories now get written for the 1st time in 2007 . Take that story and completely change it to reflect 2007, make it fit the JLU Network standards and give it a Satisfying ending. What does the NEW version look like now that we have changed it? What did I just save? what did I just destroy? I'm curious to find out.

I absolutely hated Epilogue. It took away just about everything that made Terry special. He never needed to have Bruce's DNA to be Batman, which is what made his motivation, growth and overall character so unique. The DNA and Waller's manipulation took that all away and replaced it with forced legacy. It was a step too far.

Timm and co. were trying to make a Justice League cartoon happen as early as 1996, or possibly before, when the initial idea for "Superman: The Animated Series" was to be a rotating cast of League characters. Did you use our upscaled "First Mission" video? We collaborated with Toonami Remastered for that one. If so, would be lovely to be credited, or at least TR to be. The show doesn't end on the League "vowing to go find Luthor and Darkseid." They assume they're either dead or will show up again sometime. They're chasing off after the other supervillains. Why why why spoil so many things? Epilogue, Starcrossed, Destroyer, etc. Don't even give people a chance to learn these things organically. I personally hate getting negative comments like this myself, so I'm not trying to be too hateful here, but dang. I just don't get the point of this channel sometimes.

Epilogue would have been a good way to end the show for sure, but an all-out battle in season 3's ending was a good way to end this. The series is a breath of fresh air. @@BoosterGoldEarth6 Nah, he was a wimp. They had to address this. Some actual Bruce Timm quotes: "What happened was [that] we fell into a rut of Superman getting knocked down and then not getting back up. It wasn't something [that] we realized was happening until we started getting the episodes back and the fans on the Internet started saying, 'Hey, wait a minute, Superman can't take a punch anymore!?' And we were saying, 'Oh my God, they're right!'" "The trap we fell into on Justice League was, again, we have seven of these guys and whatever villains they go up against have to be big, powerful villains. So we used the easy trick of saying, ‘Okay: the villain walks into the scene and takes Superman down with one punch.’ [That way], we automatically know that he's a bad guy and it's going to take the entire Justice League to take him down. We didn't handle that with enough finesse." "I’ve admitted elsewhere that we dropped the ball with Superman’s portrayal in Season One of Justice League, not out of malice, but merely inattention; thus we did end up temporarily with the slightly daft, bland, cornball boy scout, [but] when we all realized what was happening, we took steps to re-vitalize him in Season Two."

I have an idea on how to make a Superman game. Sure he can’t get hurt but I think Superman returns had the right idea of giving the city a health bar. Expand on that. There can be 3 health bars that you have to watch. One for the city just like returns. It would lose health whenever destruction happens to the city. Whether it be from the enemy or the player themselves when they are fighting. It doesn’t matter how small. There would be a regular health bar. This would mostly be for when you are fighting bosses since I would assume the bosses would be able to hurt him. I sometimes hear people say that all the criminals can just have kryptonite weapons but considering how unrealistic that is I don’t really like it. That said it wouldn’t be that unrealistic if only a faction of enemies had them. Red sun grenades too. During the story Lex Luther or Maxwell Lord can recruit an army for hire and supply them with the kryptonite. During the open world when you run into the other enemies u just have to watch the city health and the 3rd health bar I haven’t mentioned yet. When u run into the hired army u have to watch all 3. The 3rd health bar would be for the city’s hope. The more the bar loses the more the city loses hope. This bar would lose health whenever you fail to save people during the mission and it would lose a lot if u accidentally kill somebody. Civilians or enemies. For example u can use heat vision but if use it with people around u run the risk of hitting someone with it. Also using it on human enemies is a no go. (Don’t worry there would be plenty of non human enemies like robots or aliens). It would also be fine using ur more lethal attacks on bosses since all the ones I’m thinking of can handle it like: Doomsday, Mongol, Lex in his armor, Metallo, etc. I feel all these things would really give you that world made of cardboard feeling very well. You would still be OP but the world not being OP is where the challenge comes in. Some might say this is a lot but ur playing as Superman. These are problems he has to deal with. This is my ideal Superman game.

I'm not sure how the "hope" and "city" bars differ. Maybe the city bar only gradually recovers at a fixed rate (construction takes time), while the hope bar can be greatly boosted with a single major accomplishment?
