Aw yeah, love to see cassette beasts content in my recommended! And one that’s absolutely right, cassette beasts absolutely nails an open world. And even pointing out some of the issues with scarlet and violet I didn’t even realize I had! Solid video, honestly.

Personally i don't mind Eugene both giving you the key for the Landkeeper's bases AND being an early character with a mid-game quest-end, infact, i think it makes him more important to some degree than other characters if it wasn't for him giving you a key. With the key in hand, Eugene allows you to not always drag him around everywhere quite literally, while still existing as a character thanks to every partners'global interactions with each other. Meanwhile, with him being met early, i think it turns what would be a chore/side quest, into a proper duty to "rid the land of the landkeepers" for Eugene. Besides, Mammon, the Archangel of the Landkeeper HQ, is one of the fundamentally important Archangels that solidifies what Archangels ARE to begin with. Plus, if you ever looked at the OST or the scrolling lyrics before fighting one of them, you'll notice that Eugene is the one to DESCRIBE accidently perfectly Archangels using his own experiences.... *Calling it a "Same Old Story"*

Cassette Beasts really was a nice breath of fresh air, especially after playing Violet and being underwhelmed by it to the point of it being hard to pick up after having beaten the main story. One thing I especially like about Cassette Beasts is how the monster levels are tied to the player's level. I didn't swap my tapes around all that much for my first playthrough, but I feel like I'll be switching party members quite often next time I want to start the game over again. I also skipped over Poppetox, thinking I needed some sort of burrow ability to access the station. Those rocks just weren't suspicious enough for me even with the man next to the rocks having his life goal of bringing my attention to them...Mourningstar was absolutely awesome though, and really solidified how dangerous encountering an Archangel _should_ be. Very cool.

Hello Mr Bacon Lover, thanks for the comment! You bring up a good point, about the monster and player levels is a good feature that allows a player to change their team comp if they need to. There was one time in scarlet and violet where I needed to use a flying or psychic type to use against the fighting specialist. But I didn’t want to have to train another pokemon just for that one battle.

One of the major faults of Pokemon S/V in my eyes is how it handled the open world with the rules of Pokemon. I honestly just can't wrap my head around why they'd keep the Gym Badge level cap in a game where you should otherwise be free to go wherever and do whatever you'd like. I feel like the game could've used a level-scaling feature which would make certain fights a challenge when you'd otherwise be overleveled, and vice versa with accidentally roaming into a high-level area without knowing. It's nice to see Cassette Beasts having gotten this right, as you're automatically given a warning that you might be entering an area you aren't ready for, as well as actually having the option to change the level-scaling however you'd like. It's neat to see this kind of convenience, and I wish Pokemon S/V had decided to do something similar.

Fun fact: the ending of cassette beasts made me tear up. I am not kidding I cried. This is not a joke. Really great video about a game that I became hooked on almost immediately! Another aspect of this game that really surprised me was the difficulty sliders in the options menu. In Pokemon games, the AI follow different strategy patterns based on their trainer class, with some boss trainers like your rival late-game, gym leaders and E4 members having "smart" AI. Casette Beasts opts for a different approach, allowing the player to set the intelligence level of its AI and the difficulty of its level curve at will. I feel like this, along with a built-in option for a permadeath mode for tapes and a speedrun timer make for a much nore replayable experience, PLUS they offer you three save slots so you don't have to delete your "main" first playthrough save file. Because they already have the slider system for their level curve, they managed to avoid the pitfall of S/V's open world, where you can explore unrestrained but still manage to end up in unwinnable battles against trainers with way higher levels than you if you break the sequence they intended for the player to traverse the world. Instead, Casette Beasts gives you a blank map and hints about traversal abilities and lets YOU decide where to go, with the promise that the experience will always be as challenging as you set it to be and never truly unfair otherwise. I think almost everybody goes east first, but the drawbridge blocking off the west part of town incentivized a friend of mine to record swimming and magnetics as his second and third abilities so he could explore west and fix the bridge first, while I took my time picking through the east half of the map and didn't get swimming until mid-game. Both of us had a blast playing the game in our respective orders. One minor critique of your video - your voice is naturally a little quiet, which is completely fine. Your voice is balanced well with the background music. Very soon after your "Other Stuff" section starts, you include a cutaway with the "beep" sound effect, but it's ear-piercingly loud compared to your voice, and it happens again with another cutaway you do later in the video. Both are intended for humor and the humor hits, it just also does a number on the ears, too. Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed the content and the analysis!

Sorry about your ears! 😖 I’ll try and make it so that doesn’t happen again. But yeah one of the great things of open world games is the ability to have completely different experiences based on how you tackle them! That was one of the problems I had with S&V where it get like a normal Pokémon game just without any reason to fight the trainers on the paths. Cassette beasts does this beautifully and in a way that makes it so that no two play throughs the same! Thank you for you comment and I hope you stick around!

You know something fun you can do with your multiple save files? My brother did this little trick when I was playing Casette Beasts with him on his laptop, so first you start the game twice and open 2 different save files. Second by using the co op invite with a code you can get both of the characters in the same game and then last step open trade with one character use your highest level character to give an absolute crazy monster to your lower level character.

It would’ve made sense for Eugene to come with you for all the landkeeper buildings, but honestly we should be glad that the game didn’t force us to fight so many earth cassettes with a plastic one. If they did do that however, although it’s unconventional, I feel they could’ve had his relationship level up every few landkeepers we defeated.

I agree! However at the same time I feel like it’s unfair to call it a knock against Pokémon because the archangels are meant to be creepy. Creepier than anything Pokémon has tried to do in recent titles and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The archangels do lend themselves towards making a better story than recent Pokémon titles, and that is something worth criticizing! Thank you for your comment and I hope you stick around!

now the dlc has released, it shows us THE biggest flaw of the game, spoilers btw so the final boss of the dlc right, whereas every other archangel has a unique mechanic and theme to them, well the boss probably has the worst one, because it spams random moves, uses CONFUSION ( which is a debuff that basically prevents you from damaging him because next thing he does), he SUMMONS MINIONS THAT TAKE THE HITS FROM CONFUSION INSTEAD OF THE BOSS AND FINALLY, he has an attack that can one shot most monsters and players, even if the player has maxed out health and both defenses, and also did i mention that the boss removes every single debuff it has when it enters it's second phase ? the best strategy for this one is to get a monster with high melee attack, and the bish bash bosh move or the Ol' 1-2 to deal with the summons, get a monster that's able to inflict sleep for the entrance to phase 2 because of an attack that i am pretty sure always one shots the player and only leaves your ally, get a monster with fire, a monster with tunder, and get a monster with wind so getting hit by the goons (because they only use inflame and glitter bomb ) so you actually get a shield, you can't use the random start headshot technique for it which would arguably not change how bad this fight is because the random start headshot combo actually just ruins the bossfights and makes them really bad, i recommend using this only to grind in postgame, i don't recommend using it for pvp when it's out because most people will use macine curse, which just makes you instantly fail by killing the player and ally at turn 0

My tip? Use a Ramtasm with the nurse ability and indeed a monster with a wall, use a character where you have fusion power and have that fusion power be able to damage an entire team. Fuse, wall when topsy turvy is going to hit or nurse when you do not have a wall. Ramgrave is our strongest fusion and has defeated many bosses, basically my brother stacked a lot of effects stickers like one that has a chance for an AP refund while my Ramtasm has a lot of attacks and most important of all nurse. It does however have a chance that it locks you into Berserker when the back up hits you with an impure element, the double Shear Luck however increases our chance to evade by a lot.

How can anyone say there's problems with recent PKMN games, and in the same sentence, say they've had the most fun with Scarlet and Violet!? So.. they have standards, but they are also completely simple-minded and easily satisfied?? The game does NOTHING new or interesting. It's just the same formula in a slightly different (and more buggy) context!! There's no innovation or creativity.. and now they are charging your for multiple DLCs (ON different versions of the exact same game) and internet services on top of internet services. It's like these people ENJOY being bent over and laughed at! None of you are worth listening to! Not when you "enjoy" childish and BADLY designed challenges (made for kids), bad story-telling and flat empty worlds.

I have a couple of gripe with CB. Most characters unlock their fusion very late in the game, making the Kayleigh the default for most of the game. She's best girl, so that compensates. What is annoying, is that Kayleigh's mission to unlock her fusion is different from her story mission, unlike all of the other (human) companions. For the artist guy could've been the first Kuneko fight. For the movie nut maybe a fight against a weaken Ianthe, earning her trust to go to the hated mall. And for the poor disgraced Eugene, the first Vampire fight. The other girl is endgame enough to not be an issue. Chests feel useless. They mostly contain trash (in-game currency) which Rouge Fusions are a better source of, thus finding a hidden chest something unremarkable. That said, this is an issue I've seen many open world rpgs make. Arch angels are too easy to kill. They need some sort of resistance or immunity against the most easy and cheesy starts. At the very least, they should requiere mere than 3 stacks of resonance to be 1hko'ed. Fusions are too weak. Sacrificing initiative for a stat boost is not worth it. I honestly don't understand why they can't act more times, they're still limited by AP, it's not like they are free damage. On that note, I really hate how they look, I think 99% of them as sausages. All their cool features and siluetes are replaced with boredom. They somehow even managed to make fusing two of the same mon to look bad. I think developing fusions wasn't worth it, and it'd be better if they focused on more mons, more explorable area or simply optimizing the game (I've got a few crashes and the game stopping to load more of the world is annoying). If fusing is to stay, maybe the fused mon could become like a jojo stand for the main one, giving them thier moves and stats and such. Just ditch the sausage monsters, they're ugly. I'd like if the game tracked what stickers each monster gained, so farming didn't require to look up for stuff online. Even Pokémon shows what moves the mon learned. If this game is going to get a competitive mode, they really need to make some serious bans or limitations to certain stats: "strater" skills are too strong. Shooting up to 7 hyper beams on a switch is too OP. Same with "preemptive" chip damage, just imagine Stealth Rock but damages your enemy when you switch... Stab in the dark is OP, easy to dual wield, the 10 accuracy is trivial with Surefire or Web, can even generate AP with Pity. On a similar note, Surefire and Web enables 100% accurate 3 turn hypnosis... An can even target both mons... With echolocation and custom strater, it is possible to summon multiple layers of substitutes for the whole team on a switch. Etc. So yeah, this game is great!

I love Cassette Beasts but I highly disagree with this video's premise. The world in that game is not "more open" than in SV, if anything it's *vastly* more on rails because the specific exploration upgrades gate off so many parts of the map in ways that Paldea isn't. Calling it "open world" is honestly just inaccurate, if anything it's more of a Metroidvania with a linear progression path.
