Despite claiming it as his best project Childish Gambino’s last album 3.15.20 is by far his least popular, and it’s not because the music is bad. Thanks to one of the worst album rollouts we’ve ever seen many fans forget he even dropped it. In this video we see the 3 main reasons Donald Glover fumbled his potentially final album.

donny’s always been a kinda “read between the lines kinda guy”.. I think that’s what led me to get into his music. During his album rollout of because the internet, there was a secret vocal acapella that could be found in the screen play that would pair directly with the beach picnic version of 3005 on his later release ‘kauai’. I respect his secretive nature of creating art and i like that he hid his last album in a way. almost like he’s saying “if you really care, here it is”

I read on Reddit that 3-15-20 was intended to work as a soundtrack to Tenet as Donald Glover was up for the part of the Protagonist in the movie. Songs about time, his association with Ludwig (the films musical supervisor and film scorer) as well as the fallout with WB when he signed on for Disney. I think he intended more for it but abandoned it and released whatever was finished. Too many coincidences…

Hes said he wants to make more experiences rather than products or things to sell. I think 3.15.20 was just that and the title coincides with that theory. I know ive exhausted niggas on the donaldglover subreddit w this lol but i was down bad w covid from the top of march til the top of april and in that first week n a half was like this it, im stuck in this bed we stuck in the house. Imma cough myself to death in this bed. Then randomly that sunday around 4 fuckin a.m. i got a twitter notification of a link from donald glovers account. I click it, it takes me to the site w the sketches and music just starts playing. Maaan when i tell you i sprung to my feet rolled a blunt and "ran" to my balcony wrapped in 3 blankets and coughing my lungs out to go throw my earbuds in and listen. I sat there and stared at the moon and listened until i heard it loop back to the first song i heard when i opened the link. And i cried man, i needed that shit. Time felt like what we were going thru in that exact moment. Obviously im pretty biased here w this story, but idk, thinkin back to his small house shows in lil lofts downtown NYC during the BTI era and random small pop up park performances. Hes always wanted intimate forms of spectacle intermixed w the larger spectacles like This Is America. & i think thats what this album was, it wasnt for everyone, it was for the die hard fans, the ones really digging and searching every blog to see if anyone knew when the next drop was. His "last" album really feels similar to what happened in that atlanta episode w Al's favorite rapper where he went on a long scavenger hunt just to find the funeral. Heck if you find gambino in a particular order it leads to that same conclusion especially if the last thing you find is guava island y'know? I think what im trying to say is, i think that albums meant to be the "you just had to be there" kind of energy. Similar to the small pop up shows, the Joshua Tree experience, teddy perkins at the emmys, its all the same and its all because the internet.

what’s crazy is this is one of the albums by him that stands out the most to me. BTI and Camp were always my favs by him but this one showcased more of his high pitched singing abilities and work w diff melodie’s and themes. it really captured the chaos of the world through sound and i think it was just a great way for him to express himself while grieving over the death of his father. i feel like yeah sure he did this for his true fans but mostly did it for himself. i love this album.

Tbh it was rushed during the pandemic. But Atavista is the finished product we got. While fans say 3.15.20 is better, Atavista is actually. Yes there were some transitions and a couple of songs that aren’t in the newer version, but I honestly think what we have now is what he intended to be for 3.15.20. Plus Feels Like Summer is old, so he probably felt it shouldn’t be in the new one.

I really love 3.15.20. I think it's been the only album by childish gambino that has this weird unfinished feeling. The songs feel a little incomplete and the production is a little weird. In my opinion, it’s based on codes(because the internet) . As a computer , having algorithms, a computer talks through numbers, not letters .

Aaaaand it's gone now. Truly do not understand how his mind works, he straight up deleted it and then reuploaded with 3 songs missing. Insane

probably decided those songs weren't up to his standards or is just gonna release them at a different date, 3.15.20 was obviously just the pre-production version. also the album in its entirety is still available on youtube just taken off spotify and shit

“because of the internet” and “Atlanta”alone are enough to make the guy’s discography solid forever. Just sayin

The royalties he gets from “Atlanta” will keep his family wealthy for generations. You’re confusing someone who makes music for money. He makes music because he likes it. I promise you he doesn’t care if it hits or not because it was made on his own time.

I was more of a fan of his mixtapes STN MTN and R O Y A L T Y. But Gambino is the only artist in which I listened to just about every album, song and feature he appeared on.
