When you live comfortably and are paid well, producing something technologically advanced is impressive but not that impressive. Chinese engineers on the other hand were living in very poor conditions, under technology sanctions and in the midst of political chaos during the 60’s and 70’s and were still able to produce a nuclear submarine, now that is truly impressive. That is true ingenuity.

these old chinese submarines were noises but still very dangerous, the japanese and Americans listened to the chinese submarines in the pacific. and the Americana and japanese submarines were on chinese east sea and south sea till 1980 and 90s, until russia told the chinese navy. after china acquired russia diseil submarines and sonors , chinese scientists became expert of the the technology. Today chinese submarines are very quiet and powerful.

From what I read before,a Chinese diplomatist bought a toy nuclear submarine(USS George Washington) in a department store in America. The diplomatist gave the toy to Chinese engineers after he came back to China.The engineers found the internal structure of the toy submarine very detailed. With the help of the toy,China's first nuclear submarine was launched in 1970.

I think only two of 091 SSN still in service, mostly for training purpose. No.404, 405 were the last two 091s completed in 1987,1990 respectively. These boats wont last very long,until 2026 they will be phased out of service !
