How about China has realized Russia not a super power and not winning in Ukraine. Russia short on soldiers , using 1960s tanks etc. and Europe is learning to survive without Russian oil.

China is not reliant on the US either. My fellow Americans insist on acting like the rest of the world doesn't exist. China not only trades with the entire world, the entire world is reliant on China for its rare earth elements which are necessary for every single electronic you own. The one thing the West never talks about are the sanctions China places on us. One of them is the ban of export of REE to America. We NEED REEs to manufacture weapons. You know who the second largest exporter of REEs are? Russia. If you Google our military is actually really nervous about this and is putting together protocol to reserve as much of it as we can. China is not dependent on us. Quite the opposite. Our sanctions against China have actually forced them to become more self-reliant, which is not a good thing if you're trying to maintain the upper hand.

I am much less surprised. I thought China might want to take TSMC INTACT, and it's looking more and more like that's an astronaut level mission, as in simulations and months of training, redundant teams... luckily they have the population depth. Of course, I'd say the mission is, at least, economically infeasible. It might not be impossible, though, so... that's gonna take a real commitment, and I could see Xi thinking he might not want to spend that much more of his life on that, and that he's done enough.

Its mostly a case if financing at the moment. It is cheaper to buy off the shelf units from Iran than it is to develop and produce in house. Its literally about cost at this point in time. Most of Russias in house development is towards country saving weapons. ICBMs, Nuclear deterents & Next gen Tanks & Planes. Simply doesnt have enough Liquidty to do everything without putting entire economy on a war footing

Not being able to produce your own conventional weapons for less than imports - with caveats - shows how bad things are for Russia. Their endemic corruption is paying dividends to their enemies. Russia has an ageing and declining population thru low birth and fertility rates and emigration so they simply don't have the manpower without going onto war footing/a war economy. They also hate foreigners and people who aren't white so mass immigration isn't going to happen there. They can't sustain this war for much longer.
