This is fucking creepy and terrifying. Welcome to 1984, world! Except even Orwell couldn't foresee how advanced the tech would be to strip us all of all our rights and freedoms. Totalitarian, dystopian future devoid of all liberty is almost here for everyone, not just China though it is already reality there and the most extreme expression of it (but what do you expect from an authoritarian communist hellhole, they would use whatever is at their disposal to achieve the same results). Based on my knowledge in Chinese, I think the name "Skynet" came from a Chinese idiom "the heaven's vengeance is slow but will sure arrive", meaning that justice will arrive eventually and the criminals will eventually be caught, no matter how late. And the Chinese translation of "the heaven's vengeance" comprises two Chinese character, with the 1st character meaning "sky" and the 2nd character meaning "net". Although the 2 characters together as a word means "justice" or "the justice system", they just put "sky" and "net" together and used "Skynet" as its English name, lol. Therefore, I think it's probably a stupid translation issue, instead of intentionally using the name from the film.

This system have many flaws. My experience. I was purposely bump by people, and when I push her back, I was accuse by the screen who record me pushing the person, and was accuse of starting a fight meaning I was seen as posing a criminal act to another person. The whole point is total control. If the government can control and manipulate your environment/external factors (like whether you can get a plane ticket because of your social score), the gov. can start to control you as an individual. Because sooner or later, the score will be more than just a number. It will be an indicator of worthiness. And eventually, someone with a bad social score will be “unworthy” of an education, food for a week, medicine when sick, freedom of speech, and etc. People will start to do things that are deemed “good” by their government because they have to (survive), not because they want to or like to (loss of free will).

Every countries in the world would do the same thing if they had money and can afforded. US has been constantly do the surveillance on all its own citizens via NSA for years, just ask Edward Snowden, the whistleblower on the NSA. iPhone and/ or any cell phone has been tracking everyone in the US for years. All internet platforms have been collecting everyone personal information for years. so there is nothing new. In London there are thousands and thousands of camera watching everyone. so is the problem??? Citizens of China feeling comfortable with all those cameras that provide themselves with a sense of safety on the street and have no complaint. According to some of those foreigners who's KZbin video posted their safety walking on the street in China and they had no complaint between the safety and being watching.

I'm sure some do. This isn't exactly Mao's China. I've seen several Chinese students come to America to learn so some western exposure is had even if its only the rich and powerful. It's my understanding that savvy Chinese internet users can access western media. So it's not as bad as it used to be but it is still pretty bad. The Chinese people used to publically admit to submitting to the Chairman's desires. Now they just proclaim their faith in the government's desire to do good.

technically everyone with a smart phone is already tracked with Targeted Adverts, because it requires targeted surveillance of a person. My step mum a few years ago went into a well known shop and decided to check facebook and suddenly she started to get adverts for the place she just walked into. And that was here in the UK.
