How Chinese Organized Crime Is Dominating America’s Illegal Marijuana Market

After Oklahoma voters approved a ballot measure that legalized the cultivation and sale of marijuana for medicinal purposes, the state became flooded with out-of-state investors looking to capitalize on the weed boom.
State investigators have found links between foreign mafias and over 3,000 illegal growing operations, known in the industry as “grows.” And they say that more than 80% of the criminal groups are of Chinese origin.
This story of a quadruple murder on a marijuana farm, an investigation by ProPublica and The Frontier, shows how the Chinese underworld has come to dominate the booming illicit trade not only in Oklahoma but across the country.

What if we completely decriminalized cannabis & regulated it like alcohol? Wouldn’t that make the price plummet & put all these gangs out of business? The only “downside” I see is that the DEA would have to focus on dangerous drugs instead of wasting their time/energy (+ our tax-money) on pot..

Needs a bit more. Right now in the few states that are legalized, there is one company dominating the legal sales, and they are slimebags. The system currently has no check or balance to monopolization. I'd like to see legalization with protections to prevent monopolies like this company is forming.

The real question is why do people even buy illegal weed? It's super cheap to just buy it in a dispensary. They don't scan your ID or anything, just check the date. In my state, you can get 30% THC, perfectly trimmed, super dank nugs in virtually any strain you want. Ounces start at $75.

Licensing and taxation pads the price of marijuana. 2:40 that explains the smell, not normal. If someone grows only for personal use, I think there’s less chance of gangster involvement. Is there more to the story of Prohibition? Is this not similar?

It directly effects the economy we will see a rise in theft and other crimes when marijuana prices plummet also in Oakland they recently stole a couple million in Hennessy right of the port just one example

Shouldn’t we mention as well the connections to drugs relatively to the FBI & the CIA? As well as mention what happens when drugs are confiscated either by them or the cops ? They’re “distributed” amidst themselves & sold to public! How cld you not know of such ????
