John 14 verse 15 "Jesus said to his disciples: If you love me, you will do as I command" Luke 14 verse 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters-yes, even their own life-such a person cannot be my disciple." I'd rather not be a disciple of Jesus.

Ian, I understand how you could read Luke 14:26 that way. It sounds horrible and hateful, but Jesus is making the point to those listening that because He (Jesus, the Son of God) is the connection to God for all mankind, they need to realize that He should be put first on the list of ‘those we love.’ Maybe this Amplified Bible version is clearer for you. I know it is for me. “If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate (An exaggerated figure of speech indicating a lesser degree of love, not actual hostility or aversion toward one’s earthly family.) his own father and mother and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life (in the sense of indifference to or relative disregard for them in comparison with his attitude toward God) - he cannot be my disciple.” The Amplified version of scripture helps me understand a lot more. I’m praying that you will consider reading The Bible and will discover the love of God that is far greater than any human love we have on this earth. It’s a supernatural love relationship and well worth discovering and living in. Our Triune God ‘covers all the bases’ - God the Father created us, His son, Jesus, came to live as a human to model God’s love for all mankind and paid the price of death for all the wrongs mankind has ever or ever will do (even thought He Himself was perfect) and then rose from the grave after 3 days to show that death is not the victor in this life. Then Jesus sent His supernatural Holy Spirit to indwell all who believe in Jesus as their Savior. Holy Spirit is with us always, ready to guide us and reveal things to us when we ask Him as we go through life. The Bible is full of prophecy of all these things and the events to come but many choose to put their trust in the easier ideas of why we’re here, what is right or wrong, etc. Pursuit of triune God is worth the time all the time. I pray your heart and spiritual eyes will be opened to God. It will change your life here on earth and for eternity and bring joy unspeakable and unbelievable - even in hard times. ❤️🙏🏼✝️💪🏼
