@Phantom Blade We just paid over 13 billion dollars for one Aircraft carrier...... Not to mention, that with America's GDP, we make $2,283,105,022(billion) per hour. Do you consider something you pay for that costs about an hour and 15 minutes of your pay to be expensive?

The problem with acoustics is the effect they have on cetaceans, especially the deep diving species such as the Curvier's beaked whale. They are mainly found in deep canyons where the sound bounces off the walls causing them to make a bolt for the surface which ends up killing them as they get DCS

The 625 billions of dollars pumped into the military is responsible for the creation of millions of jobs and the development of a great deal of new technology that has benefited humankind as a whole, not to mention global security and the assurance of the free use of the oceans for all nations across the entire globe, as well as the countless humanitarian missions conducted by the military. @Sky Man Has the ocean floor been mapped? Yes. Accurately? ...No. The problem is the maps of the totality of the ocean floor hasn't been accurately mapped because thousands of feet of water is quite hard to see through it's why submarines are still a thing. If stealth weren't possible military subs today wouldn't be a thing (because of their cost and overall uselessness outside of being covert). The ocean floor is very hard to map. Having maps isn't the same as accurate mapping. The ocean floor a few feet from the coast in Florida that is visible to the naked eye isn't the same as trying to figure out what is underneath miles of water in some places in the same ocean a few hundered miles away from the same coast in the same ocean even if you're directly above the area you want to map. So again mapped? Sure. Mapped well? If those 500 year old maps of the world are accurate to you... Then yes, I guess.
@VariantAEC
@VariantAEC 5 жыл бұрын
@Sky Man Actually they explained how global organizations will use accurate maps of the the ocean floor for their own benefit. Did you watch the video? Most of the stuff humans make isn't for general use and doesn't directly benefit you as an individual. If you're healthy you don't know what it's like to need the medical equipment your own species pioneered. Does that mean it doesn't help those that do? I guess according to you it does, right?

@SkittleGirlTokyo Жыл бұрын
Reversing? Bro, the Sahara desert sand provides the rainforest with nutrients to well, BE A RAINFOREST. Then, lots of detailed science info later, moisture from the rainforest, travels to mountains, it rains, water flows, eventually making it to icebergs which fall into the ocean (naturally or should be naturally and not cause of a warming ocean) and the nutrients from the icebergs feeds plankton and again, fast forward a bit, we end up with oxygen. Wanting to reverse deserts is the most absurd thing I have read all year. Everything on this planet contributes to its overall health and existence. To your existence.

I have an idea coming from a kid who loves video games and is watching this for school, what if we sent out mapping systems that gamers like me could control and move underwater that way you have boats drones and underwater robots controlled by kids and adults everyday

Past generations would say to this video "Hogwash and Boulderdash!". And I tend to agree :-) The ocean floor was mapped decades ago (some of it clouded with past military secrets). Right now, theres not a spot under the seas (at least, none of interest) that hasn't been mapped.

hey man, another really great episode. for a future episode idea how about "how close are we to world peace" or at least how close is the US to pulling out its troops and sending them to africa to dig wells and solve world hunger. or how close are we to africa not being a third world country anymore. or how close are we to using up our coal reserves.

America already digs water wells in Africa. We're also the largest supplier of food to 3rd world countries. But we're probably not going anywhere until the terrorists disband, or we kill enough of them that they aren't a real problem anymore. There's no such thing as complete world peace. But today, the average persons chances of dying by violent means has never been lower.

The SONAR used in these underwater maps is ultrasonic. Its several hundred kilohertz, meaning it is well beyond the audible range of pretty much everything. The frequent traffic of large merchant vessels or vast fields of shrimp are far more of a nuisance than this SONAR.

Wouldn't this many continuous radar signals severely affect sea life, possibly killing some just for a better map? Why not use ships already crossing the oceans? The sea lanes would be quite detailed.

Better than building the drone ships, why not you equip all the ships in the world with data grabbing equipments, so that the data can be collected from various locations in very less time or less money. It will be faster and for the remaining place send you ships there for mapping.
