if this can help, one of my two friends who drives lmp2 car (oreca) in european le mans series told me how more realistic is lmu against iracing for the same reasons you say, too much grip and smoothing. real racing cars are more "dirty" on the steering wheel

I can say that LMP2 e sports setups in LMU are TOO Far tho. So somewhere between the stock setups and the e sports setups is realistic. However E Sports setups in iRacing feel MUCH more like real life - when we talk about the prototypes. Yes theyre faster but the FEEL is similar... up until you heat the tires too much. I think iRacing is much closer once they fix the godawful tire model. But LMU at base is closer.

Estre did a massive countersteering on chicane entry, with the current LMU tire model it's not possible, they broke it in the last update.

Best thing with lmu compared to acc is that players online actually races. Acc is a divebombing gt7 wreckfest with 97% incompetent drivers rambling around but in lmu its intense clean races everytime

i think the main reason for the higher top end on LMU and lower corner speed is down to downforce levels, does look like LMU is running lower downforce maybe.

Yeah I think iRacing's LMDh cars just has too much downforce. I was running the lowest possible wing angle in iRacing, however not on LMU and it still got higher top speed. If iRacing just remove some downforce from the LMDh's I think they would be quite a bit closer. Thanks for watching :))

@@soholmgaming iRacing's current tyre model is too basic and needs extra down force that distorts low speed driving, to compensate. That is true to all high-downforce cars in iRacing: too much downforce, too much grip that does not correctly vary based on speed and aero influence.

@@soholmgaming btw, LMU has a tendency to be a bit too quick on the straights, however when it comes to Le Mans it's a bit exaggerated because the default DOK is more top-speed focused, than what Penske used IRL. The difference will still be there but the delta in top speeds and Vmin through some corners would be halved roughly.

Iracing version is Curcuit de la Sarthe 2016. It is way behind LMU. Despite this it still holds up pretty good espcially for a general racing sim.

I speculate the ultimate laptimes of the top prototypes in the hypercar class could be 3:21s, just because a ferrari 499p had a laptime in the 3:22s in 2023. Also it was just there first year. But due to bop with slower hypercar vehicles it'll probably be hard to achieve for a lil while.

This is my gripe with iracing. There’s no violence to any of the cars. I did similar tests tonight with formula cars and the bmw gtp across iracing, ams2 and LMU/rf2 . LMU is clearly the best but ams2 actually feels closer to LMU than iracing. And the lap time was almost identical to LMU where iracing was 2 seconds faster with no struggles.

Ahh this tiitle reminds me a similar title from an old (10 years) blog post from a race car engineer (DrRacing's Blog -"How close is close enough? Part 1-2) , the gist of that blog post was that if you use accurate data (at least in rFactor) then the results are very very close to the real thing (an F3 car).

Iracing is not realistic on lmdh, too much aero, grip than reality, the car is nervous in reality it isn't in iracing, also iracing doesn't have virtual enrgy and hybrid système management !

Recent tracks have 3d curbs and they work more like in LMU, but my biggest problem with iRacing is FFB and tires temp when going over the limit

@@nedis4 My issue with FFB is the feedback between initial bite to turn-in and the response when initiating a slide/push. It's a very subtle feedback of the wheel, and I wish it wasn't as subtle. If that could be enhanced i'd find it much better.

rFactor 2 is an evolution of the rFactor engine. LMU is an evolution of the rFactor 2 engine.

@@SinclairHugh If you are talking about the current live release, I agree. 1.6 will bring it a lot closer, I have been beta testing and the LMDH cars feel fantastic. I would still expect LMU to have an edge though, as it's a specialist title so it should do. But at the moment AMS2 ( in 1.6 at least ) gets close enough for me, has a better weather system ( by far ) and VR. And you can run the cars on IMSA tracks. I will probably play both, but LMU has such a long way to go, I hope they get there before they run out of money.

So what you're saying here is a game called Le Mans Ultimate with a more recent scan of the Le Mans circuit is more accurate than iRacing with it's Le Mans circuit that was released 8 years before? Of course it's going to be more accurate to the current day track.

@@bobbaganush17 So him highlighting the lack of 3D kerbs in iRacing is nothing to do with the scan? The fact is the track in iRacing hasn't been updated since release in 2016. If the 3D kerbs were there, like they are on some of the newer scanned or recently released tracks in iRacing, then the physics (not psychics) would be different. So he's essentially comparing a release from 8 years ago to a release from this year. I'd expect the more recent release to be better and with the name Le Mans Ultimate as they title of it, i'd expect them to put the effort in to make it as detailed as possible. The only bit that seems fair is comparing the lap times and cornering speeds. iRacing does seem to have a lot more grip.

@@kenn-h3y alright, lets see the hypercars irl take pcurves 1 and 2 completely flat. it literally can not happen irl, they dont have the grip for it, meanwhile in iracing its ez flat at 300kmh i love driving these cars but holy cow they have WAY too much grip, its a joke that even in the heavy rain, we are only about 10-15kmh slower than irl in the dry.

I went to Las Vegas and drove a corvette sting ray. My sim racing skilled definitely helped me. Butttttttttttt it’s really no where near close to the real thing. I’ll never sim race again the real thing is far more superior way of driving

Learning the fundamentals of racing and how to use a paddle shifter upshift in Apex all comes in handy. I will say that, but when you actually get under the muscle, the stress, the centrifugal force the heaviness of the steering wheel it’s 1000% different.

Just out of respect to real world racedrivers just stop comparing playing a video game with reality. A video has NOTHING to do with reality. In a 6 hour race in the first lap when a gearbox fails and the whole team can go home. You have NO idea what the impact is with such situations, sitting in your chair with cola and chips. I think they aren't realistic because they havent mapped 3D kerbs on Le mans. iRacing started doing this on newer tracks like Mugello and later they've added more tracks like Sebring and I'm hoping they'll do it on Le Mans too :))
